Also, after switching back to Simple static sound and playing that, I went back to Sources Sharing Buffers and the same thing happened. First initialization failed to produce and sound and the second click on the play button produced an error. After enabling Logging (for debugging) I cannot get any sound to come out in Sources Sharing Buffers, although Simple Static Sound seems to still work fine. Hope this helps. [ANN] Data Grid Helper is on the road for open beta test
Dear list members, The Slug is pleased to announce the availability of an open beta version of the Data Grid Helper plugin. The Data Grid Helper is a plugin dedicated to the datagrid object. It helps: - managing datagrid properties - creating templates for columns and forms - creating code for columns and forms behavior - installing ready to use code A quick start guide is available in the same download section than the tool. The plugin is free to use during 20 days. You can report bugs off-list or in the forum dedicated to the DGH plugin. To download the open beta version and take part to the forum, you have to create an account in the Slug's website. The stuff is located in the Download section. I would like to thank all the closed beta testers for their tests, bugs report and support. Thanks also to Trevor DeVore for all his lessons concerning the datagrid object and to have shared the code of the library with us. And thanks to the members of the list. I'm learning a lot by reading all the posts. A special thanks to Richard Gaskin for his post, months ago, about behaviors and Scott Rossi who gives me interface inspiration by sharing his work. Richmond, When I do the update stuff, the icon goes boom. Don't know the cause yet but I am working on it. As for entering your details everytime you update, err... this is a design mistake on my part, the update fetches the whole app again and in doing this, it overwrites the "user data" that lives inside the app. Don't think I will be able to address it now, but, there should not be more than 4 updates a year so I guess we're fine. Thanks for the download. I'd never seen MONKS before, although I knew of its existence, being a Mac developer in the late 80s. What hasn't been talked about is the excellent extra NEW material that Brian added. Re: If Monks CD-ROM - test download please
Yes I know it is not an application, and there is a story attached to that one Colin. But, it works, doesn't it? Why? Monks was more than an interactive presentation. There were 2 applications -- a Journal and an e-book reader -- built-in, in addition to the interactive presentation. Since we didn't want the user to have to have enough memory to run 3 Revolution standalones at the same time (this was planned out in last millennium) we put the Rev engine into one of the standalone's -- so they would have to only have two standalones open at most. So, the Rev engine in the Journal runs the interactive presentation and the journal application. If you open the Journal app you go straight into the sophisticated Journaling application, if you open the document you go straight into the Cloister and the interactive presentation. *** Colin -- I remember fondly a few of the things you said to me when we were building Monks like: "If Monks had Windows they'd jump out of them." It turned out that with Revolution Windows development was a piece of cake. However, we were developing it at the same time that Revolution was working out its bugs with the Mac platform and Steve Jobs was jerking that platform around every few month with a new version of OS X -- that changed the underpinnings of the OS. This is long, but, now I'm ready to tell the story. Just before the burning of the CD's a new version of Revolution came out with something we needed, but broke the perfectly sensible code we were using to launch Monks. So, Sarah, from this Revlist saved the launch by writing for us an Applescript that relied of our Monks creator code to launch Monks. And, I thought, why throw away the old launcher, I think I'll just leave it on the CD-ROM and call it "the back-up launcher" even though it stopped working. Maybe someday it will work again... And that, is really a nutty way to think. However, five years later, Snow Leopard stop recognizing Creator Codes and Sarah's AppleScript stopped working. If Monks CD-ROM - test download please
Hello, To Download for FREE the classic, Revolution-built Monks CD-ROM visit: http://rivertext.com/ Please let me know, if you have any issues with the download or installation, as I plan on sending Press Releases out early tomorrow morning, Thanks to everyone for their offers and suggestions for helping with the free downloads of the IF MONKS HAD MACS CD-ROM. The most intriguing suggestion was to use the public folder of my Dropbox. I think that explaining what I learned about Dropbox will be of use to a lot of folks so I will explain that below. If you don't know about Dropbox, you go there and get 2 gigabytes of FREE storage that you can use just by dragging to the alias of a drop box on your hard drive. It is easier to use for storage then Apple's MobleME. But it's real value is that you can share folders within your Dropbox with folks you are working on project with and everytime you update something in a shared folder it gets updated on the computer of everyone who is sharing that folder. What I learned this weekend is that you can link to items in your shared folder from you web page and the visitors to your web site will never know that they aren't downloading from your own server. It is seamless, and the files don't disappear if they aren't downloaded as they do on Rapidshare or FileFactory -- which are hardly seamless as the user has to pass a human test by inputing letters and then waiting 30 seconds watching a message to upgrade to their professional version. Anyway, if you are interested in Dropbox now click the link below. (and if a few of you sign up for a free Dropbox account I'll get the space back for my own Dropbox use that I'm giving up to host Monks there.) https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTI4NDQ3ODY5 -- Brian ___ use-revolution mailing list use-revolution@lists.runrev.com Please visit this url to subscribe, unsubscribe and manage your subscription preferences: http://lists.runrev.com/mailman/listinfo/use-revolution

Re: First test for Infinite Zoom
Alejandro, I finally found the time to look at your "Infinite Zoom" stack. After some changes to your code - I hope they were the right ones, i.e. not being counterproductive to your own intentions - I managed to start your stack, but using 6 images of my own in a folder "images" I understand that in your stack "Zoom_infinite.rev" you "zoom out" a sucession of images in a stepwise fashion to achieve a decreasing size of the images which finally converge towards an "infinite" point, and after that you start all over again with a big-sized image. At first, before I had tried your stack, my understanding had been that your perspective was how to implement an "infinitely" continuing zoom into or out of images (the latter of which, decreasing the size of an image until it vanishes, would be of course quite simple). I therefore looked at a number of scripts for (proportional) resizing of images I had tried in various image-processing stacks. What I am going to mention here, may well beside your specific point of view concerning "infinite zoom" and meet with limited interest from your side. Nevertheless, here are some observations mainly concerning "infinite zooming in": 1. The only procedure with which you can really "zoom-in infinitely" into an image is to take a continuing and everlasting succession of snapshots from a smaller rect of an image. Place a rectangle graphic (the graphic can be even hidden) on top of an image that has its "Lock Location" set to true (to preserve the size of the image) and then apply the following two-liner: on mouseUp put the rect of grc "select" into trect export snapshot from rect(trect) of img "test" to img "test" as PNG end mouseUp You could also put the snapshot line inside a repeat loop to achieve a stepwise zooming-in effect remotely similar to the effect in your stack, but in this example with only one image. The "quality" of the zoomed-in images will of course depend on the set "resizequality" of the image. Although you indeed could continue such a procedure "forever", it makes sense only up to a certain point. 2. On the "slides page" of my stack <http://www.sanke.org/Software/ThumbsAndSlides09.zip> you can enlarge or shrink the selected images proportionally in steps. If - when enlarging and therefore "zooming in" in the visible windows - you reach a size of about width = 18000 pixels, height = 14000 pixels Revolution will crash immediately and silently without an error message, simply vanishing from the screen, stack and IDE (Tested on WindowsXP with Rev 3.5 and 4.0). 3.On the slideshow card of my old sample stack <http://www.sanke.org/Software/SlideShow-Win.zip> you can smoothly and proportionally zoom in and out of an image using a slider. I have restricted the maximal size here to about 3000 x 2500. The smoothness of the zooming procedure ist best with the resizequality set to "normal". "Good" for the resizequality is still smooth and tolerable on a fast computer, with "best" the zooming process begins to slow down considerably in the upper size range. To test the "crash limits" found above in example 2 I put an image and a zoom-slider on a card - with the end value of the scrollbar set to 19000 and zooming an image with equal values for width and height. With "normal" resize quality the zooming was nearly smooth up to the value of 4000. Above 4000 the zooming process became increasingly more jerky. With the resizequality set the to "best", zooming above 4000 was virtually impossible, whereas zooming stepwise in the "ThumbsAndSlides" stack occurred without a noticeable time lag even with resizequality "best" and up to the crash size of 18000 X 14000. When using the zoom-slider, the crash of Rev - as described above - occurs at an image size of about 16000 X 16000, meaning that Revolution can "accommodate" images up to 256 million pixels, at least if there are blown up to such a size inside Revolution. Re: First test for Infinite Zoom
Alejandro, I agree. The effect is very mesmerizing and could have a lot of potential in other applications. There was a library recently that mimicked gestures (like on a touch screen) that might be perfect for advanced effects. Swipe up in a short gesture and it zooms in slowly and swipe down and it zooms out slowly, swipe in a longer gesture and it zooms faster. I have also seen this effect where if you click and hold and move up it zoom in and while still holding if you move below the original clicked spot it will zoom in the other direction. Certainly opens up some possibilities. I don't think every image needs to be load from the start. I was reading up on different sites where they only load the next incoming or out going image and unload the previous. That of course will make the coding more difficult but you have already done the hard work in getting this to happen in runRev. I wonder what the timing will be like in a revlet? I plan on digging deeper into the code for this so maybe I will have some input on the 2 pixel issue and the lag. But I already suspect the lag is in the number of images being processed at each click. Very versatile effect already, I can't wait to see more. Probably, it's not necessary to load all 46 images while initializing the card with the zoom effect. A particular task that gave me a lot of problem, was scaling all images covering the gaps between them. Originally, i planned to include zoom in and zoom out, using the left and right mouse button, but changing from one to another produced a mess in the sizes of images. Ideally, scaling of images should be driven by the mousewheel or the keyboard arrow keys. Could you imagine the versatility of this effect if we could move smoothly, not only in and out but to the sides of the pictures, almost like a QTVR panorama?
