SSVM showing alert status

2013-12-02 Thread Jake G.
Hi all,

My SSVM is showing ALERT as its status. How can I troubleshoot this? Also, Any
tips on how to log into the SSVM and CPVM?

Thanks,
Jake

Re: SSVM showing alert status

2013-12-02 Thread Jake G.
I finally figured out how to login. Thanks for the hint that I needed to be on
the host where the SSVM is located.
That said, I get the error no matter which host the SSVM is on and the alert
status does not go away after recreating the SSVM.

Hi,

Even if you recreate and it shows alert, then you need to first find out the
hypervisor where its running, and connect to it locally using the Link Local
IP Address  shown in the management interface.  It is in the format 169.254.x.x

Login to the hypervisor as root

# ssh -i /root/.ssh/.id_rsa.cloud  -p 3922  root@169.254.x.x

It's a standard Debian template.
Some commands:

To check the systemVM version:  cat /etc/cloudstack-release
To do a basic troubleshooting:  /usr/local/cloud/systemvm/ssvm-check.sh

You can apt-get install package to install tools to troubleshoot, but when
you re-create the systemVM, these packages will be lost.

Alert state could be due to networking, or disk-space being full ( logs ) or
something  went corrupt and the file-system went to read-only mode.   All
systemVM are safe to be destroyed and they will get re-created again.

Cheers,
Shashi

Strange! I wonder whats going on with my setup here. I am not sure how to
trouble shoot this.
Adding a persistent route works but i couldnt imaging having to do this with a
ton of users.

Anything special you can think of?

Hi Geoff,

I followed the standard method of creating a IPsec VPN using the built-in
windows client. I have done this uncountable times in the past and usually it
depends on the VPN router as to whether internet traffic can be split off of
VPN traffic. Also depends on the companies policies. Most large companies I
know do not allow internet traffic while connecting to their VPN, as it poses a
risk if the client PC is infected. From what I can gather off of blogs and
other treads, cloudstack does not have split-tunnel capabilities.

I could be wrong about my assumptions so it would be cool if someone could test
for themselves using the windows VPN client in either windows 7 or 8?

With out running the script I mentioned in my last email, if I checked the
connection details for the VPN network, no gateway was provide by the
Cloudstack VPN provider. I believe this is why internet traffic cannot be
routed out.

Thanks,
Jake

 Anyone know how to resolve this?

Is your VPC subnet the same as your “local” LAN subnet?

Re: Networking issues when vRouter is on different host

2013-11-11 Thread Jake G.
Hi!

So i figured out that it was due to MTU settings.

In order for the guest traffic on host`s physical NIC eth0.900 to traverse the
switch I had to reduce the MTU on the guest VM to 1496.
My guess is because the vlan tag 900 adds 4 bytes to the packets sent out the
host`s NIC eth0.900. My switch is not configured for fragmentation so the
packets where being dropped.

Subject: Networking issues when vRouter is on different host

Hi All,

I'm running Cloudstack 4.2 on CentOS 6.4 with 2 KVM hosts using advanced
networking.

I have 3 networks on 2 physical NICs.
eth0 - Management, Storage traffic
eth0.900 - Guest Network VLAN 900 on the physical NIC, but a Guest VM vlan
range of 600-699 handled by the CS vRouter.
eth1 - Internet, public traffic

I am able to deploy Guest VMs in the cluster containing the 2 KVM hosts. I can
also ping the vRouter and other Guest VMs located on the other host of the
cluster. Lastly, I can receive Guest IPs from the vRouter`s DHCP service no
problem.

My problem is, I am unable to connect to the internet and/or the internet is
extremely slow (200bytes/sec) from a Guest VM that is located on a different
host than the vRouter. Guest machines that are located on the same host of the
vRouter work fine.

Could this possibly be a MTU issue? As far as I know everything should be the
default MTU 1500.

Thank you very much!

Hi,

You need to configure two bridges say cloudbr0 and cloudbr1 using the two
interfaces present on the KVM host.
Use these bridge names as traffic labels in the Physical Network you create
during zone creation in CloudStack.

Eg. If cloudbr0 is on eth0 and cloudbr1 is on eth1 then use cloudbr0 as traffic
lable for guest and public traffic and cloudbr1 for management traffic.

Following configuration might help you in configuring bridges:

Configure network interfaces:

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=none
IPV6INIT=no
NM_CONTROLLED=no
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=OVSPort
DEVICETYPE=ovs
OVS_BRIDGE=cloudbr0

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
DEVICE=eth1
BOOTPROTO=none
IPV6INIT=no
NM_CONTROLLED=no
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=OVSPort
DEVICETYPE=ovs
OVS_BRIDGE=cloudbr1

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-cloudbr0
DEVICE=cloudbr0
ONBOOT=yes
DEVICETYPE=ovs
TYPE=OVSBridge
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=172.16.10.10
GATEWAY=172.16.10.1
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
HOTPLUG=no

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-cloudbr1
DEVICE=cloudbr1

From time to time my console proxy dies too.
Restarting fixes it. Have you tried rebooting your console proxy yet?
If it still doesn't work, copy paste relevant logs from catalina.out
from CS master server to your next mail.

Re: Console stopped working recently - Resolved

2013-09-06 Thread Jake G.
Ok guys dont laugh at me on this one.

Turns out our internal DNS cache server marked CS proxy traffic as poisonous
and was blocking.
Had our networking guy fix it and now the console works.

Thank you very much for your help!

Help with host network config KVM + Centos

2013-09-05 Thread Jake G.
Hi all,

I have a single centOS 6.4 KVM host with two NICs

eth0: 192.168.100.131/24 GW 192.168.100.254 is for public access (internet
access)
eth1: 10.3.9.50/8 no GW is for management access

Could someone please help me with the initial configuration to work with KVM
and Cloudstack?
This setup is different than the documentation.

Thank you for your help in advance!

This is great news! This will help adoption a lot I think.

However just wondering if this is a free appliance?

Thank you

4.1 features

2013-06-05 Thread Jake G.
I successfully upgraded to 4.1 via the repo works great, but looks like the
upgrade guide has some errors.

cloudstack-management is the new service name I believe for centOS.

Also, I read somewhere that from 4.1 we would be able to add more than one NIC
to an instance as well as be able to resize a disk. However, I am unable to
find these features. I'm guessing not yet?

Thanks

CloudStack 4.0.2 Theming

2013-06-03 Thread Jake G.
Hi All!

Is there a way to apply customizations to the CS UI permanently ?
I have customized the CS user interface but ever time I update CS I have to re
apply the customization.

Is there a way I can make a separate folder that holds the customized css and
image folders? Or any other way?

Thanks!

Best method to instal CS4.x

2013-05-30 Thread Jake G.
Hi all,

I currently have CS 4.0 running on centos 6.3 and vcenter 5.1u1. Works perfect.
I used the repository method of installation.

My question, is it better to have installed from source instead?

Thanks!

Re: How to migrate XenServer VM to cloudstack

2013-04-12 Thread Jake G.
Sorry, ALL my clients use VMware so I made it VMware specific.

Different hypervisors will require different steps and processes so it is
probably better to create a separate feature request for Xen.

this ticket looks vmware-centric. maybe a new ticket needs to be filed for
other hypervisors.

MIgrate VMware VM to Cloudstack

2013-04-11 Thread Jake G.
Hi All,

Is there an easier way to migrate existing VMs on a VMware host into Cloudstack
without exporting as OVF/OVA then importing into Cloudstack as a template, then
deploying again?
This method is also hit or miss. A lot of times I get a BSoD or Kernal Panic
with some VMs I migrated.

If this is the only way to migrate then Cloudstack is going to have a big
problem trying to get people with large existing infrastructures to switch over
to Cloudstack.
There has to be a way that the management server can look at vCenter for
existing VMs and have some sort of wizard or even API only script that does the
following.

1. Lists Existing VMs on a vCenter cluster.
2. Allow you to select the VMs you would like to migrate into cloudstack and
assign each vm to a user/group
Click migrate
3. A process starts to snapshot the existing server, renames and copies the VM
files to Cloudstack primary storage.
4. Cloudstack then updates its database to reflect the new inventory.

I am sure my process is missing a bunch of things but in general this should be
possible I think. I wish I was a programmer so I could help with this.

Thank you very much!
