Each cloudstack VM has a VNC password. unfortunately it is not supported in
FIPS mode.

Re: implement an authentication challenge method (such as Recaptcha) in the CloudStack UI

2021-07-26 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi Ahmed,

We have a feature to restrict no. of user logins before the user is
locked/disabled via the global setting incorrect.login.attempts.allowed. If
you've comfortable with frontend programming, you can extend the VueJS based UI
to implement/add the recaptcha solution (send a PR too!).

In addition, we've a feature to limit API calls by a user that I've not tested
but according to codebase there are these settings available to configure it:
api.throttling.max, api.throttling.enabled, api.throttling.interval and
api.throttling.cachesize - kindly test if it's useful for your use-case.

CloudStack lacks a general-purpose 2FA framework (backend/frontend or both),
however, off-the-shelf 3rd party solutions do exist for bot-defence. For
example, Cloudflare has a reverse-proxy based solution
https://www.cloudflare.com/products/bot-management/ The way it works is that
you use the Cloudflare DNS and enable option to proxy via CloudFlare, which
will prompt spammers/bots/malicious users to show a captcha or human check
(some puzzle or human challenge like select pics that have bikes etc) and if
they only pass they'll be allowed to use the resource (i.e. the website url).
You may experiment with solutions too as an immediate fix.

Regards.

Hi Nicolas,
Thank you very much for your reply,
Regarding ReCAPTCHA function it self it is simple , It’s just a standard script
in html can be included in any web page including ReCAPTCHA api valid account
can be registered in
 https://developers.google.com/recaptcha/intro
But the question is how to include the script of ReCAPTCHA in cloudstack login
page UI? And test it successfully.
So now I invite the users if any body can deploy and test it in cloudstack as
a paid task,
If any body interested in this task, please contact me on my email.
Thank you very much
Ahmed.

Hi Ahmed,

I'm not aware about any work on it. I noticed there are some components listed
on Awesome Vue (https://github.com/vuejs/awesome-vue) which can be used to
integrate reCaptcha into CloudStack:

So, basically, I see next options here:
- the sponsoring of our team, so we can involve additional senior-grade
engineers;
- community volunteers involved;
- developers from other companies involved.

Another important thing to count in is the absence of real stakeholders who
would like and can to participate in the design stage because we don't
interested in direct just 'redo in another stack' approach and we try to
achieve better UX for users.

With current resources, our purpose is to deliver the best interface for
users who use a single flat network (basic or advanced) mostly for
multitenant or single tenant clouds, e.g. public cloud.

CloudStack-UI: Release 1.411.24 Overview

2018-11-14 Thread Ivan Kudryavtsev
Dear community, we released a new version of CSUI 1.411.24. If the e-mail
is not displayed correctly, please use following links to read announcement
on GitHub.

EN: https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/1.411.24-ReleaseNotes-En
RU: https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/1.411.24-ReleaseNotes-Ru

Release 1.411.24 Overview

On November 9, 2018 we released Cloudstack-UI 1.411.24. In this iteration,
we continued developing the Log View UI-plugin and added such features for
it as viewing logs in a real-time mode, the search of log entries. Besides,
we enhanced naming for new virtual machines and the disk offering selection
component, fixed a number of interface bugs. Below you can find the
detailed description for main enhancements and fixes.
View features added

Last release we presented the new UI-plugin - Log View
<https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/Log-View-Plugin> - that allows
viewing virtual machine logs.

In the current release, we added such features as:

   - Viewing logs in real-time mode and configuring parameters for the
real-time mode (maximum messages to display, the period to view the logs
   for);
   - Search logs.

Let’s consider every feature in detail.

Viewing logs in real-time mode. Users may face situations when it is
necessary to watch the machine state during the operation. For such cases,
we implemented a feature allowing users to view machine logs in a real-time
mode. To enable this mode a user can click on “Follow log” in the
bottom-right corner. When sorting a list by the “Newest first” option the
button moves to the upper-right corner. In this case, the latest logs
appear at the beginning of the list.

The “Follow log” button is available after selecting a virtual machine in
the filtering parameters as well as at viewing logs in a regular mode. When
the “Follow log” option is enabled the list of logs refreshes with a
defined frequency. For displaying many log messages we implemented dynamic
loading at scrolling the list down.

The following default parameters are used for viewing logs in a real-time
mode:

   - List refresh interval - once per a second.
   - A user views logs for the last minute.
   - Maximum messages in the list - 1000.

A user can change default parameters in the “Log View (real-time mode)”
section in Settings. The following parameters can be customized:

   - the time period to display the latest logs for,
   - the maximum number of messages to display.

The settings are saved to user tags.

Search logs. For convenient filtering of logs, a user can apply the search
tool above the list and enter a word or a phrase there. Then refresh the
list by clicking on “Show logs”.

naming of virtual machines changed

For better usability and avoiding VM name collision, we added a feature
allowing a user to define a VM display name that is not required to be
unique in the zone.

In earlier product versions a user defined a virtual machine name that
corresponded to the Hostname attribute. That could cause VM creation
failure if the specified name was not unique. In the current version, a
user can define both an arbitrary non-unique name (Display name) and an
optional name corresponding to Hostname that should be unique in the zone.
Thus, now a user can define two names for a machine:

   1. A VM display name - Must be defined in the “General” tab of the VM
creation form. This can be any name. It will display for the VM in the
machine list and in any place of the UI. The field is required to be filled
   in.

   1. VM host name - Should be defined in the “Advanced” tab of the VM
creation form. It should be unique within the zone. A hostname displays in
   the VM details sidebar only.

The field is not required to be filled in. If empty, a hostname will be
auto-generated for a VM in the format of vm-.

offering selector improvements

The list of disk offerings now include all options available to a user
instead of previously containing only those that a user can create. When
selecting a disk offering the system checks the available account resources
required to create a VM with the selected option. If a user selects an
offering that does not fit the available account resources, a warning
message appears and the selected option cannot be applied to the VM. This
enhancement makes the disk offering selection more clear and convenient to
a user.

fixes

During the iteration out team fixed interface bugs that improved the
following interface components:

Release 1.411.23.1 Overview

On October 30, 2018, we released Cloudstack-UI 1.411.23.1. The main feature
of this release is the LogView plugin allowing a user to view VM log files.
During the past sprint, the team significantly enhanced the Affinity group
selection form and Access VM dialog box. Besides, the Main Navigation Bar
is changed. See the details below.
Plugin

In 1.411.23.1 Release users can view VM log files by enabling the new
CloudStack-UI extension - LogView.

This extension uses the LogView backend-plugin that extends the CloudStack
API with additional requests allowing users to access the VM log files
storage. For the LogView UI-plugin operation, firstly, it is necessary to
deploy the LogView backend-plugin which can be downloaded from GitHub
<https://github.com/bwsw/cloud-plugin-vm-logs>. The plugin uses ELK to
store machine log files and Filebeat to export log files from a VM to the
storage. The plugin is developed and tested only with Apache CloudStack
4.11.1.

Then, it is necessary to enable the LogView UI-plugin via the CloudStack-UI
configuration file. After activation, the View Logs section appears in
CloudStack-UI. It allows a user to select VM log files and a time period to
view the logs for. Logs can be viewed in direct and reverse chronological
order.

Full deployment instructions are provided at the plugin page
<https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/View-Logs-Plugin>. The plugin
is now in active development. At the nearest iterations, the following
features will be implemented:

   - displaying logs in real-time mode.

of Access VM component

At the current iteration, we improved the Access VM interface to help those
cloud users who face the problem of Access VM information search in cases
VM template configurations go beyond the typical ones: a username, a port
are non-standard; used password is not managed by CloudStack.

Access VM components allow a user to obtain all necessary credentials to
access a VM in the final dialog box shown after VM creation, or later when
a user selects a corresponding action in the VM Action box. Access VM
component is implemented by defining the special template or machine tags.
These tags determine the view and content of the Access VM dialog box. For
today, we support three VM access modes: VNC, SSH, HTTP.

   - Access VM component for accessing a machine via VNC console extends
the CloudStack feature enabling a template owner to determine a login to
   access a machine.

   - Access VM component for accessing a machine via SSH allows a user to
get all necessary credentials to access a VM with SSH. In case the WebShell
plugin is enabled, a user can SSH to VM in a browser.

   - Access VM component for accessing a machine via HTTP is useful for
templates with ready to use web systems deployed, such as SugarCRM or
Wordpress. This tab in the dialog box provides a user with all necessary
details to access a machine in a browser.

All three modes can be used for one machine at the same time. In this case,
all three tabs - VNC console, SSH, HTTP - will be active in the dialog box.

For more details on configuring VM access via template tags visit the
wiki-page
<https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/Access-VM:-Supported-Modes> in
the GitHub project.
group attachment improvements

In the current release, we improved the affinity group selection component
at VM creation and editing.

Now, when attaching an affinity group to a machine a user can select a
group in the list of existing groups or create a new group. At creating a
new group it is required to define a group type: affinity or anti-affinity.

Now we support the attachment of several affinity groups to one VM.

navigation bar improvements

The main navigation bar is enhanced and now contains two levels expecting
the implementation of new UI features in the future. In the new menu, all
menu items are grouped into two main sections.

In the “Virtual Machines” section a user can manage machines, their
settings, and view log files.

In the “Accounts” section a user can manage accounts and users, define UI

Release 1.411.22 Overview

On October 12, 2018, we released Cloudstack-UI 1.411.22. During the past
sprint, the team significantly improved the VM creation component including
Service Offering and Disk resizing selections. Besides, the Access VM
component is enhanced. Alongside with enhancements, a number of interface
bugs are fixed.
virtual machine creating component

In the current iteration, we significantly improved the virtual machine
creation form.

We added two tabs to the form: General and Advanced. In the General tab, a
user can find such required fields as “VM name”, “Zone”, “Service
offering”, ”Installation offering”. Alongside with the ability to edit disk
size for ISO installation source, a user now can edit root-disk size if a
template is selected as an installation source. Disk offering chooser
component is also improved: more details are provided now.

The list of service offerings now include all options even those that do
not fit available account resources. If a user selects an offering that
does not fit the available account resources, a warning message appears in
the window and this option is not available for selection.

In the Advanced tab, a user can fill in the fields: Group, Affinity group,
Firewall, SSH key, Start VM. The “Firewall” block shows a default security
group that is editable. Adding a security group, a user now has to select a
template and rules to make a new security group as no system templates are
preselected.

Please, note we moved the “Keyboard layout” section to “VM preferences” in
the “Settings” section.

fixes

The following bugs are fixed:

   - an error in the console taking place at VM deployment.
   - an error in the console taking place at grouping a list of entities.
   - an error at using a date picker that took place in IE and Edge
   browsers only.
   - incorrect behavior at password change when the “UPDATE” button did not
   work.

Release 1.49.13 Overview

On October 31, 2017 we released CloudStack-UI version 1.49.13. An extended
summary of the most important features and improvements is provided below.
There are also a lot of bugfixes and minor updates.
security groups management

The release introduces shared security groups support. Now users can both
create groups by combining different template rules and choose shared
security groups which are used by other machines during VM creation.

In Firewall section there is a switch between Firewall Templates and Shared
Security Groups. Users can manage security group rules in two modes: a
"view" mode with filtering by types and protocols and an “edit” mode.

Shared security groups are displayed in "Firewall Rules" section ("Network"
tab in VM details sidebar), the same as private groups. Security groups
editing is available when switching from "view" mode to "editing" mode. If
the group is shared, user is warned that changes will affect other VMs
using this group. This behavior allows avoiding undesirable changes for
other VMs.
management enhancements

Several important changes have been applied to Storage section. First of
all, root disks are now visually distinguished from data disks. In
addition, there is an option to display only spare disks, which allows
saving user's time in certain cases.

keys description

In this release we introduced a possibility to specify a description for
SSH keys. This functionality is useful for users in terms of adding
necessary semantics.

tags displaying in VM details sidebar

Now users have a possibility to disable a displaying of system tags in VM
details sidebar. System tags are used to provide functionality from user
interface perspective. Changing these tags affects functionality of the
application. So hiding system tags helps to avoid accidental unwanted
changes. If a user has disabled displaying of these tags, the system will
remember it and next time tags will also be hidden.

behavior after VM creation

In this release our team has made a big contribution to the improvement of
UX when creating a virtual machine. First of all, a user now has an access
to the list of all creation steps.

It might be useful in the case of VM creation error since a user can
understand where exactly error occurred. In future versions users will be
capable to copy a complete log returned from a server and contact a
technical support using log details.

When creating a VM in interactive mode, a user usually plans to perform
some actions with it immediately after creation. In this regard, it was
decided to ensure the proper behavior of the system in order to improve the
UX. Depending on the installation source (ISO or a Template), the system
allows getting not only login, password and IP of the machine, but also an
access to VM interaction interface. Currently supported:

   - VNC console,
   - WebShell if VM has a csui.vm.auth-mode tag with SSH value. To
configure access to VM using WebShell, please refer to wiki
   <https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/Tags>,
   - Access via HTTP if VM has a csui.vm.auth-mode tag with HTTP value. To
configure access to VM via HTTP, please refer to wiki
   <https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/Tags>.

A user can always request this information by referring to the context menu
"Access VM".

password management

Another important functionality introduced in this release is the improved
VM password management. VM password can be saved to tags right after VM
creation. A user can also set an automatic password saving for all VMs
being created. Password information is available in "Access VM" context
menu.

Subject: CloudStack-UI 1.49.9 released on September 5, 2017

Dear Community,

On September 5, 2017 we released CloudStack-UI version 1.49.9. This release
is a bugfix release. The key change in the release is the modification of
the version naming scheme, which was aligned with the Apache Cloudstack
versions releases. Thus, in version 1.49.9, the value of the numbers is:

   - "1" - responsible for the concept of the interface that is currently
   used;
   - "49" - responsible for compatibility with ACS, currently 4.9;
   - "9" - the current version of the CloudStack-UI product.

In the future, with the increase of releases lifetime, the fourth number
may appear. It will mean the minor version, and will be designed to reflect
changes related to bug fixes within the current version of the product.

In the current version of Apache Cloudstack 4.9.X we plan one more release
(1.49.10), in which the we will complete the migration to Material 2, fix
errors of medium and low level, and introduce number of interface
improvements related to usability and customization capabilities.

After release 1.49.10 we plan to switch the development environment to
CloudStack 4.10.0. The following releases will have names 1.410.X and will
be tested for compatibility only with the latest version of Apache

CloudStack-UI 1.49.9 released on September 5, 2017

2017-09-06 Thread Ivan Kudryavtsev
Dear Community,

On September 5, 2017 we released CloudStack-UI version 1.49.9. This release
is a bugfix release. The key change in the release is the modification of
the version naming scheme, which was aligned with the Apache Cloudstack
versions releases. Thus, in version 1.49.9, the value of the numbers is:

   - "1" - responsible for the concept of the interface that is currently
   used;
   - "49" - responsible for compatibility with ACS, currently 4.9;

CloudStack 4.10.X. From release 1.410.X on we will move to a longer release
versions lifecycle, i.e. 1 month (current release cycle is 2 weeks).

Just a note after a quick test: It seems there is an error in the docker
image, I was not able to start a container with 1.0.7, but the very same

CloudStack-UI 1.0.7 released on July, 25, 2017

press release with images, follow the link:

Release 1.0.7 Overview

On August 8, 2017 we released CloudStack-UI 1.0.7. This is experimental
release. We do not recommend to use it in production environments.

During the work on the current release the team's main efforts were
directed to the implementation of plugin functionality that is absent in
the native CloudStack API, namely we created two new plugins - WebShell and
Pulse.

Also, the release includes the support of several standard features:

   - Periodic volume snapshots;
   - Capability to specify the default compute offering for the zone.

Also, the release includes the support of several standard features:

   - Periodic volume snapshots;
   - Capability to specify the default compute offering for the zone.

plugin (experimental function)

WebShell is a CloudStack-UI extension designed to perform a clientless SSH
connection to a virtual machine. The extension is activated in the
CloudStack-UI configuration file and is supported by an additional Docker
container. As for the way of WebShell usage, the plugin is similar to NoVNC
interface provided by CloudStack. However, WebShell uses the SSH protocol
and doesn’t allow VM emergency management.

The need for this extension is determined by the shortcomings of the NoVNC
interface, that obstructs its usage for everyday administrative purposes:

   - Low interactivity and slow throughput of the terminal interface;
   - Lack of possibility to copy/paste text from the user's local machine;
   - Missing feature to complete the session by timeout;
   - Access to the virtual machine in out-of-band mode, which allows to
perform a number of insecure operations.

WebShell plugin solves these problems:

   - Provides high interactivity, which is especially useful when working
   with information that contains large amounts of text;
   - Allows copying and pasting text from the workstation;
   - Enables configuration of the session completion timeout, thereby
   improving the security of the system;
   - Doesn’t provide an access to the VM in out-of-band mode;

In future releases this plug-in will be extended with additional features
such as integration with the VM access key store and dashboard for
efficient work with many open SSH sessions.

This feature is not available in basic CloudStack UI and API. Plugin
deployment and configuration instructions can be found on the plug-in page.
plugin (experimental function)

Pulse plugin is designed for visualization of virtual machines performance
statistics. Currently this CloudStack-UI extension is only compatible with
ACS clusters that use the KVM hypervisor. With help of sensors that collect
virtual machines performance statistics via the Libvirt API and store them
in an InfluxDB datastore and RESTful statistics server, CloudStack-UI is
able to display CPU, RAM,disk IO and network traffic utilization in the
form of convenient visual charts.

Pulse allows users of Apache CloudStack to monitor current and previous
operational states of virtual machines. The plugin supports various view
scales like minutes, hours, days and enables data overlays to monitor peak
and average values.

We consider this plugin very important for the CloudStack ecosystem as
currently there is no built-in functionality to track VM operational
states, although it is vital for system administrators to successfully
operate virtual servers.

Plugin deployment and configuration Instructions can be found on the
plug-in page.

CloudStack-UI 1.0.6 released on July, 25, 2017

2017-07-25 Thread Ivan Kudryavtsev
Release 1.0.6 Overview

If you don't see a properly marked document and would like to see the same
press release with images, follow the link:
https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/106-ReleaseNotes-En

On July 25, 2017 we released Cloudstack-UI 1.0.6. During the past sprint,
project team concentrated on extensive code refactoring, which led to
several bug-fixes and also allowed us to include new functions in the
release.

Most important introductions of this release are new VM filtering and
grouping interface, improved representation of resource usage bar, tabs for
VM and Template tags and the time format choice.

Another far-reaching point of the release is our decision to migrate from
MDL to Material2 with which we expect to deliver even more of the nice
features.

An extended summary of the released features and improvements is provided
below.
<https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/106-ReleaseNotes-En#refactoring>
Refactoring

Developers have spent more than a week on refactoring the old code of VM
creation which was written without proper design on early project phase. It
has been reimplemented from scratch.
interface for VM filtering and grouping

A new component was created, which allows presenting a new interface for VM
filtering and grouping in this release. In addition, this component will
help to create a new way of VMs displaying - it will be possible to switch
between views and a new form will be added - a table format similar to the
one offered by the standard ACS interface.

VM tabs

Reorganized VM details tabs. Previously tabs were "keyword" labeled, in
this release they were changed to icons. It helps to implement more tabs
with compact and visually self-descriptive labels.

NIC and SG details and configuration are moved to a separate tab "Network"
which will help to implement additional network operations for advanced CS
zones.
Resource Usage Bar

Resource usage bar allows switching between "used" and "free" presentations
to help users understanding capabilities in a better way.

Machines and Templates Tags

The release introduces VM tags and Template tags tabs. Unlike the native
ACS interface which doesn't use tags, CloudStack-UI uses tags very
extensively to provide additional UX capabilities. In future versions tags
will interact with UI plugins to provide additional capabilities like
clientless SSH access.

format choice

Users have the possibility to choose a time format (AM / PM <-> 24h), which
is not represented in the native ACS interface. This functionality allows
users to use the system in a convenient time mode in different locations.

Subject: CloudStack-UI New Release is Out - 1.0.4

Hello, community.

We are happy to announce the next release of the CloudStack-UI — 1.0.5.
The release includes a lot of bug fixes and usability improvements. We have
spend two months improving the code, implementing new features and fixing
bugs found after the initial release. We missed the announces about 1.0.1 —
1.0.4 releases waiting while the most of the found bugs to be fixed. The
code was switched to Angular 4 to support the latest stack.

Links:

The release can be found at GitHub releases (
https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/releases/tag/1.0.5)
Prepared Docker image is available at Dockerhub (
https://hub.docker.com/r/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/). You can pull it with: docker
pull bwsw/cloudstack-ui:1.0.5
The project changelog is here:
https://github.com/bwsw/cloudstack-ui/wiki/Changelog
Deployment guide and project info can be found at GitHub pages:
https://bwsw.github.io/cloudstack-ui/

Close Plans:

We are quite close for the development of our first two plugins which will
be presented at the CloudStack European User Group meetup in London, 17
aug.
The first plugin is clientless SSH console to VM, based on the code:
https://github.com/bwsw/webshell

The second plugin is charting plugin which is purposed to display
"realtime" CPU/RAM/NETIO/DISKIO stats for KVM VMs and based on the code:
https://github.com/bwsw/cs-pulse-sensor
https://github.com/bwsw/cs-pulse-server

All questions, considerations and notes are welcomed.
PS: If someone is willing to share the information about the project,
please just do it)

Hello, Cloudstack community.

We are proud to present our last development effort to you. During the last
5 months we spend some time to develop alternative Cloudstack UI for basic
zones with KVM hypervisor and security groups. This is basically the thing we
are using in our clouds. During the design of the software we tried to fulfill
the expectations of our average cloud users and simplify operations as much as
possible.

The project is OSS and can be found at GitHub with bunch of screenshots and

Hello, Ricardo.

Right now it supports only native ACS authentication, not SAML.
But, please, submit feature request and we will consider it in the backlog.
We don't have SAML cluster deployed, but I suppose your assistance could
help if you have required environment deployed.

Have a good day.

Hi Ivan,

Great work, the UI is very clean and simple to understand. I am interested
in the advanced network implementation, I have no skills in develop, but I
can help to test in my environment.

I have one doubt about the login interface, the UI support SAML
authentication or just local?

Hello, Rene.

Of course, we are open for additional features. PRs will be accepted after
review and integrational testing by QA.
Just keep in mind that we (our developers or QA engineers) need to have an
access to the zone with Advanced networking to do integration testing (and
develop test plan for those features)
because right now we only have deployments with Basic Zones.

5 months we spend some time to develop alternative Cloudstack UI for basic
zones with KVM hypervisor and security groups. This is basically the thing
we are using in our clouds. During the design of the software we tried to
fulfill the expectations of our average cloud users and simplify operations
as much as possible.

The project is OSS and can be found at GitHub with bunch of screenshots and
deployment guide. It's under active development so, we will ge glad if you
join and provide us with additional feedback, UX considerations and other
interesting information.

cloudstack UI through accelerator/cache/proxy

2015-12-10 Thread Giles Sirett
I’m trying to get a basic understanding on how much the performance of the ACS
UI would improve if it was run through some form of accelerator/reverse
proxy/cache (i.e. something like a netscaler)

Scenario is a management server that is a long way (physically) from the
users, therefore latency is causing UI delays. Idea would be to put an
accelerator close to the users so it can cache the static pieces of the ACS UI

We will be doing some testing on this, but wanted to know from the outset if
anybody has a gut feel for how well the ACS UI may behave when run through a
setup like this

Re: cloudstack UI through accelerator/cache/proxy

2015-12-10 Thread Erik Weber
The only thing you could cache as far as I can see is static content (js,
css, pictures) and list calls.

Anything that triggers an action has to reach the mgmt server and cannot be
cached.
When caching list calls you have to either have a really short lifespan, or
a proper method of invalidating the content on changes.

As for caching static content I am not sure if it really is worth it, it is
only loaded on the first page load, and with recent ACS versions it should
be cached by your browser as well.
I guess that theoretically you could build a custom version of the
client-web that reference static content from another server (
static.customer.com) and ensure through DNS that users use a mirror close
by.

2015-12-10 Thread Timothy Lothering
Hi Giles,

We use Netscaler to accelerate ACS, albeit only static content as Erik
mentioned. It is only really beneficial with multiple ACS Management Servers
(and ours are 1 hop away @ 2Gbps). And to re-iterate what Erik said, the
browser will cache most of the content.

Hi,

I've been running something like this without issues using mr Kinsella's

I've seen visible improvements in performance, at least with the version we

Re: [RFC] Metrics views for CloudStack UI

2015-11-12 Thread Nux!
Marcus,

Thanks for the explanation.
In my setup I chose to completely ignore this Ghz thing which may turn up to be
a mistake.
I am using the same number for Mhz as for the # of CPU cores, e.g.
CPU (in MHz)1 MHz

I was just concerned with the CPU weight thingy, but this should work just as
well.

Re: [RFC] Metrics views for CloudStack UI

2015-11-12 Thread Marcus
Hi Nux,
The thing about ghz is that it is the unit of capacity for CPU, VMs are
allocated to hosts according to the number of "cycles" it has. As a
customer, I agree, core count is more important. As an admin, if you have a
single host in a cluster that is using much more CPU than the others and
want to try to balance, the ghz number for the VM can tell you 1) which VMs
on a host are the 'biggest' when cgroup throttling kicks in, that is, how
much of the host CPU share a VM will get, and 2) if that VM will fit on
another host - the old UI helps you know which hosts don't have capacity
for a migration, but it doesn't tell you how full each host is and doesn't
give you this data to know how full you'll make a host if you migrate.

Many people will want these metrics to go into a time series system and
use something like the graphite publisher instead, as that will give better
visibility into what's going on over time, but this seems like a good
out-of-the-box solution to expose the data we already have buried in the UI.

This looks really great!
You've added the metrics view at the Infrastructure tab. This is nice
for the platform ops.
I assume the very same metrics would also be a benefit for domain-admins
(say: customers). I'ld suggest to add this view somewhere below the
Instances tab.

Re: [RFC] Metrics views for CloudStack UI

2015-11-06 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi Lucian,

- We are showing number of cores on the instances metrics view
- We can increase the width of the container/list-view but the UI assumes
1024px to be the width and with this assumption several widgets/css rules are
put in place, so it's a challenge to get it right without breaking seen/unseen
widgets and views. For such reasons, the columns are made collapsible to hide a
group of columns in case you don't want to use horizontal scrolling and widths
of columns made shorter to pack more information (increase the information
density). The other issue is all the widgets you see are created by JS code
(directly using DOM manupulations) so it's hard to reason about responsive
widgets (many have fixed widths, or absolute positions based on where the
container starts etc). I can try if we can somehow implement a responsive
design/container.

Regards.

2015-11-06 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi Stephan,

Domain admins are not shown infrastructure tab, so while they may still access
metrics view for instances and volumes, they won't be able to see metrics for
rest of the resources (zones, clusters, hosts and storage pool). I'll discuss
and incorporate changes to allow showing volume and instances metrics.

Regards.

Re: [RFC] Metrics views for CloudStack UI

2015-11-05 Thread cs user
Hi Rohit,

This looks fantastic to me. It's a very much needed addition to the UI.
Look forward to trying it out at some point in the future :-)

Thanks!

[RFC] Metrics views for CloudStack UI

2015-11-05 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi all,

The present CloudStack UI hides most of the metrics data such as cpu, memory,
disk, network usage in inner detail views. Such information is critical to find
issues in one’s cloud, for example finding clusters where hosts are failing, or
finding storage pools where disk space has depleted beyond configured global or
cluster thresholds.

The metrics views for CloudStack UI is an attempt to solve those problems that
brings in several UI enhancements such as sortable tables, new status icons,
methods to control breadcrumb navigation, making UI’s global list* API pagesize
dynamic, a new table widget based on listView widget that is both horizontally
and vertically scrollable, supports cell/threshold coloring, collapsible
columns along with navigation from one view to another and quick-view actions.
For example, currently support navigation are: Zone to Cluster to Host to
Instance to Volumes, and Storage Pool to Volumes.

The current version implements six resource views for zone, cluster, host,
instance, volume and storage pool (primary storage). The metrics framework
(based on listView widget) would allow developers to write more such view where
information can be densely packed.

Please checkout the FS (with some screenshots) and the PR;

Hi,

Stupid question:)

How to disable\reset tomcat cache for editing cloudstack3.css?

Cloudstack 4.5.2, Centos 6

Re: Cloudstack UI Customization

2015-09-01 Thread Rene Moser

Hi

We use a web proxy (nginx) in front of the UI/API and make a http
redirect to another css based on cloudtack3.css

In 4.6 there is an empty custom.css which will be loaded after
cloudstack3.css so any style can be overwritten easily by serving a
custom.css

Re: Custom disk size at cloudstack UI

2015-04-21 Thread Nux!
Vadim,

No, it will only work with KVM.

Should you decide to switch hypervisors, this is how you do it, edit this file
on your install:

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/blob/master/ui/scripts/ui-custom/instanceWizard.js#L424-437
and set var custom = to false instead of what is there.
Then gzip the file (all the files are gzipped, this is how they are served by
default to increase speed).

Re: Custom disk size at cloudstack UI

2015-04-20 Thread Clément Schneider

Vadim,

The root disk custom size feature is currently limited to KVM but the
secondary disks sizes can be customized when adding a new disk to a VM -
I don't know if it is avaible on all hypervisor but I'm sure it is with
xenserver.

Here are the steps to do so:
Go to Service Offerings, add a new disk offering and check the Custom
Disk Size checkbox during the process.
Then go to Storage - Add Volume and select your newly created Disk
Offering. Now, you should be prompted for a custom disk size.

I'm not sure but depending on your setup you might have some restriction
in size. We are currently limited to something around 1TB.

Subject: Unable to connect to Cloudstack UI - v4.3

Hi Everyone,

I have a bit of an issue to connect to the web interface. I have an
environnment test on Cloudstack 4.3 The management server is on a centos 6.4
(NFS share too).

I tried things but none of them worked more than 1 time :

- Restart the service cloudstack-management
- Restart the service tomcat6 (this one cause me a lot of trouble)

I checked the log

/cloudstack/management/catalina.out
- java.net.BindException: Address already in use null:8080

- netstat –ntap | grep 8080
try yo kill -15 the pid

- ps -ax | grep tomcat
try yo kill -9 the pid

I also had this :

cloudstack-management dead but pid file exists

The pid file locates at /var/run/cloudstack-management.pid and lock file at

var/lock/subsys/cloudstack-management.
But after restarted the service , it seemed ok.

- Try to RM /var/lock/subsys/tomcat6

Anyway, i tried a lot of things, but if anyone already had this issue before
and had a process to do in this case, please help me !

Thanks .
