It's an annoying, long-standing bug that apparently isn't
high-visibility enough to get any attention:

Could you check whether your BIOS has legacy usb disk support?  If
it is on, please try turning it off.

Thanks for the reply:-)  I read the bug reports and i added  
hint.ehci.0.disabled=1  to the /boot/loader.conf,  did not work, it 
still hangs.

Thanks for replying, I disabled legacy usb within the BIOS, my 
system still hangs. I guess, I will need to continue using  the button 
to turn off the unit, or move the OS

to another unit.
