Re: [dba-users] Re: saving relationship diagram across sessions
Hi Seb, Thanks for your help with this. I can certainly see a layout-settings node, but I get stuck interpreting it since I don't know the XML language. However, I expected to see a closing tag for the node (something like /layout-settings), which isn't there. Well, it is valid ... for better readability, you could untick the Size optimization ... check box in Tools/Options/Load+Save/General, and re-save the document. Experimenting a little by rearranging entities in the relation designer, saving, and comparing against the settings.xml before this shows that the items after the layout-settings node have not changed. Here's the settings.xml file in case you might spot something unusual. Well, looks good. The fact that it doesn't change when you change the layout in the designer, and save the design/document, indicates that this is a problem with saving, not with reading. Two questions: Does it affect only this particular .odb file, or others, too? In particular, if you create an .odb file from scratch, does it happen there, too? If you remove the settings.xml from your .odb file, again using a ZIP tool of your choice - does the problem vanish then? Re: [dba-users] Re: saving relationship diagram across sessions
Hi Seb, No, I have done what you suggest: creating a database from scratch (built-in *.odb DBMS -- no PostgreSQL), and the problem occurs there too. I'd be interested in having a look at this file, could you send it to frank.schoenheit at sun.com? If you remove the settings.xml from your .odb file, again using a ZIP tool of your choice - does the problem vanish then? No, removing that file doesn't change the problem at all. I'm using version 1:3.2.0~rc1-1 in Debian sid. If you're not seeing this problem in a custom-built package, could it be a problem with Debian's packaging? Indeed, my next question would have been which OOo version you're using, since I suspect the same meanwhile. Could you try OpenOffice.org 3.2 Release Candidate 2, which will be available in less than 48 from http://download.openoffice.org, and see if the problem persists there? Somehow my gut feeling says it doesn't ... (You can also try RC 1 which is already available for download, but it has some other problems, so don't use it for serious work ... RC 2 is more likely to become the final release ...) Re: [dba-users] Re: saving relationship diagram across sessions
Hi Sebastian, OK, so it does seem to be a problem with the Debian packages. Do you have any memory of this ever being a problem in previous versions? Not at all, no. Re: [dba-users] Re: saving relationship diagram across sessions
Hi Seb, Thanks Frank. Indeed I did save the changes in the relation designer and the database document, but the relation designer starts with everything anew next time I open the file. Can you please suggest how I can write the macro you describe. I'm not sure what the data source and the *.odb package are. Thanks. Okay, let's start with the simple part (it might take me a while to find the time to write that macro): unzip the .odb file with a tool of your choice (you might want to copy it to *.zip beforehand), and look into the file called settings.xml. Is there a XML node layout-settings, which looks as if it could resemble the position/size of the windows in your relation designer?
