[libreoffice-users] Re: create mailmerge with spreadsheet librecalc without using libre base ! pls help how to do it TQ

2012-02-03 Thread Alex Thurgood

Le 02/02/2012 18:57, Mark Stanton a écrit :

Hi Mark,

You are saying that it is possible to mailmerge using a query to supply the
data? I know that's what it looks like you said, but there's just been a
long thread here that concluded this was not possible, so I'm just checking.

The other thread did not say that. The question from the original post
was how to make sure that the Query was selected by default for the
mailmerge, without having to manually select it each time. For whatever
reason, bug ou incomplete functionality, one does not appear to be able
to do this, hence the suggestion that a View be used instead because is
a View appears to be handled like a table for the purposes of mailmerge.

As Andreas says, it has been possible to use a Query for mailmerge for
at least 10 years (StarOffice, OpenOffice.org, now LibreOffice), but
apparently (and I don't remember when this happened or whether it was
always like that), at present one has to manually redefine the
particular Query each time the mailmerge is used.

I would hasard a guess that this actually stopped working (i.e. having a
query referenced within the mailmerge template or the configuration
parameters) when Sun/Oracle redesigned the mailmerge wizard (sometime in
the 3.x development branch I think). Of course, it could actually be a
LO bug, I haven't compared versions to see whether it works in the one
(e.g. OOo 3.2.1) and not the other (LO 3.3.x).

As far as I understand I should be able to set the default font and
font size in the main.xcd file

The only problem is that Im not sure what the format should be... :(

I tried the template way. I created a template and copied it to every
machine via a script. It does not seem to get used though. I think I
need to tell every installation that it should use this file as the
default template. How would this be done? Also in the main.xcd file?

Where is the user data stored? If on a server, create a new default template
and update the appropriate file in each user folder (or alternately change the
default template location). If locally, I do not have a good idea.

Also, what OS's are involved, I assume Windows.

Thanks for testing, OOo 2.4.3 is going back a bit in time...
So an unimplemented feature then ? I remember with StarOffice 5.x and
OpenOffice.org 1.x, the SDB files contained clickable links to the
Queries (the properties of which could be edited, as I recall) which
meant that you didn't have to worry about assigning the query each time.
Seems that that possibility was lost when the StarDesktop functionality
was removed and Base 2.0 was developed.

Yes, I have Artha as a stand-alone one. You can get it off the distros
as well, and I believe there is a Windows version as well.

But if you need one to be used in LibreOffice, my set of English

a result from. All you have to do is download and install one of my
American English, British English, or Canadian English, .oxt files and
install it through the Extension Manager.

You can get them at the Extension Center
http://extensions.libreoffice.org/ and look for the Dictionaries for any
version. Or you can go to my portal and download them from there.
http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/dictionary.html#english
They start with kpp in the dictionary file list. There are a total of
11 dictionaries to choose from. All you have to do is choose the
version of English [American, British, or Canadian], and choose the
spelling word list count size [98K, 217K, 390K, and 638K words in the
list]. You can install all of them, but only keep one of each English
version enabled at a time. Hopefully, soon I will be uploading an
update with about 1K of computer technical words and terms that were
missing from these word lists. I have been busy so I will need a bit of
time to make the updates available online in the Extension Center and my
portal.

Splitting up equally structured data across many sheets is *always* a
huge mistake. Don't do that.

Simply put everything in one table and add a field for the month.
There are dozends of features which allow you to get data and
calculations for any category of a single table.

I tried adding this Macro:

Sub Rename_Tabs()
Dim x As Long, suffix As String
 Dim v as Variant
 suffix =  12
 v = Split(Jan,Feb,Mar,Apr,May,Jun,Jul,Aug,Sep,Oct,Nov,Dec, ,)

 If Not IsError(Application.Match(Left(Sheets(x).Name, 3), v, 0)) Then
 Sheets(x).Name = Left(Sheets(x).Name, 3) suffix
 End If
 Next
End Sub

But it fell over on the bolded portion. I'm not a macro person and this
was copied from one in Excel that worked OK.

Anyone tell me what I need to replace the bolded bit with?

Sorry, Artha is not something I have dealt with, except testing it out
on my Ubuntu system.

If you think there needs to be a page listing all of the possible
dictionary and thesaurus options for Ubuntu and Windows, well if I have
the time I might think about doing one.

But for now, I have a good one for LO within my .oxt

might be a useful one.

Yes, I have Artha as a stand-alone one.  You can get it off the distros as
well, and I believe there is a Windows version as well.

But if you need one to be used in LibreOffice, my set of English dictionaries
have one that has over 140,000 word/phrase listings to get a result from.
All you have to do is download and install one of my American English,
British English, or Canadian English, .oxt files and install it through the
 Extension Manager.

You can get them at the Extension Center http://extensions.libreoffice.org/
and look for the Dictionaries for any version.  Or you can go to my portal
 and download them from there.
 http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/dictionary.html#english  They
start with kpp in the dictionary file list.  There are a total of 11
dictionaries to choose from.  All you have to do is choose the version of
English [American, British, or Canadian], and choose the spelling word list
count size [98K, 217K, 390K, and 638K words in the list].  You can install

Re: [libreoffice-users] How to Enable Thesaurus

2012-02-03 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

I do not think that the LO Extension Center would be a good place for
that. We need to keep non-LO packages off the LO Extension and Template
sites.

As for the Thesaurus in LibreOffice, well you need to install a
dictionary/thesaurus .oxt file as the easiest way to get one working
with LO. I know there are Thesaurus files in the Ubuntu repository, but
I do not know how to get LO to access them properly. There seems to be
several file formats for Ubuntu's internal/repository spelling and
thesaurus data files. LO must be able access them properly to use
them. Since Windows does not include such files, as far as I can tell,
would the developers create the coding for each type of Linux
dictionary/thesaurus repository based file formats when Mac and Windows
might not have them? Would these file be in all the Ubuntu, Debian, Red
Hat, openSUSE, etc, based distros, or only in some of them? I would not
want to be the one responsible for testing LO to see if it works with
each and every distro's repository-based spelling dictionary and
thesaurus files. It is much easier to just work with the ones enabled
through the installing of the .oxt file based ones.

http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/dictionary.html is the
list of all the .oxt dictionary and thesaurus files I know of, except
any new ones listed in the LO Extension Center that I have not listed
[yet]. There are over 200 dictionaries [last counted] listed, with over
20 localized Spanish ones. So, to be honest, I would rather deal with
using a .oxt file-based thesaurus and dictionary than try to get what
Ubuntu has to work with LO.

As for the question about stand-alone Thesaurus for Ubuntu, for now
Artha would be the easiest route to go. Install it, then run it. You
will not see it's window coming up normally. You have to do a
ctrl-alt-w to have the window pop up for use. The package stays in
memory, or partly, until you reboot [or at least as far as I know it
does]. I have used it a few times though. Actually it is more than
just a Thesaurus. There is a Relatives tab system that lists their
titles called: Synonyms, Antonyms, Derivatives, Related to, Attributes,
Similar, Domain, Causes, Entails, Kind of, Kinds, Part of, and Parts.
What all these options will show, I have no real clue, but they are listed.

Splitting up equally structured data across many sheets is *always* a
huge mistake. Don't do that.

Simply put everything in one table and add a field for the month.
There are dozends of features which allow you to get data and
calculations for any category of a single table.

Listen to that smart advice from Andreas.
And do it better by adding another field (column) for year and line_ID.

That line_ID I mean something that identifies the line content.
Let's say you have in each sheet report line labeled Turnover, line
labeled Costs

and line labeled Number of employes.
Those line labels can be the line_ID but better is to add a numeric key
because of sorting.

Then use the data-pilot to filter and select desired year and month.
The final report you can edit and format using the marvelous VLOOKUP
function

- lookup in the data-pilot values belonging to line_IDs.

Resume:
- keep unformatted data in Sheet1 - this is your database

- have selected time period filtered in datapilot in Sheet2 - define
once, change filter only

- format a nice presentation of v-looked-up values in Sheet3 - define
once - it presents data of Sheet2

(a) Do you want to have this question answered? Or (b) do you want
to be helped with your problem?

If (a) then replace
  For x = 1 To Worksheets.Count
by
  For x = 0 To thisComponent.Sheets.count-1

If (b) please recognize that your problem derives from an
unfortunate data layout, just as Andreas and Jiri have been pointing
out. However you could try to handle your situation by either
replacing the relevant values inside the content.xml, just as Tom
has been indicating. This can be done by the SearchReplace
functionality of any simple text editor. Or, if you would rather
have a BASIC macro doing the job, you will need to dive into the
StarOffice object modell, which is very different to Excel, which is
why it´s little help to present an Excel macro for this task.

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Macros could be a starting point.

Stefan

A workaround has been found by 'TJ' in the Mandriva newsgroup:

When in LO's 'print file', go in to Printer Settings and change
 'PDF' to 'Postscript' (any level).

(Unfortunately the change does not stick, unless the document is
 changed and Saved.)

The reason why OpenOffice is able to print the file perfectly is that
it already uses Postscript in the output.
   For background to that, see:

   https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=94173

where the proposed change from Postscript to PDF (to solve *other*
problems) did not make it into OpenOffice before it ws handed over to
Apache, whereas they *did* make it into LO!

Actually they did indeed make it to OOo-dev 3.4.0
DEV300m106 (Build:9582) as that build has the same issue as LO.

That said... I wouldn't shoot the messenger in the case of 94173; Till
Kamppeter pretty much rocks IMO if he's aware of the situation you can
pretty much bet that he'll work with you to resolve.

I suspect that your issue is the same as John Jason Jordan's issue
(Printer always selects PDF instead of Postscript thread).

A possible workaround:

Open spadmin (printer administration) select the printer
'Properties|Device|Printer Language type: PostScript Level 2. Close
spadmin open LO (3.3.x or 3.4.x) and you should be ok for that
printer. You can check by closing reopening LO 'File|Printer
Settings|printer|Properties|Device|'.
- In LibreOffice 3.3.4 you should see 'from device driver'.
- In LibreOffice 3.5.0rc2 you should see 'PostScript Level 2'.

Again, it's a possible workaround certainly not a fix. But give it a
try see if it works for you.
