2012-06-19 Thread Brian Charlton
Hello,

As I said in my first email, Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.

I have tried downloading again - and the Beta release of 3.6 and still get
the same problem.

Note that the message I am getting refers to LO 3.5 Quickstarter, but it is
not installed at that stage. After removind LO 3.4, I still got the same
message and failure.

I am at a loss.

 Curious, what is your OS?

Try downloading LO again, I am assuming you have a corrupted install file.
This can be checked by comparing your hash with the one listed.

  Hello,

I am trying to install LibreOffice 3.5 on my Windows 7 64-bit system,
 but
 it fails to complete.

I go through the process and click the Install Button, The UAC then

 appears

and I click that. Shortly after I get a separate widow which says:

Please exit LibreOffice 3.5 and the LibreOffice Quickstarter before you

 continue with an OK button

On clicking the OK button, the window disappears and the main installer
 tells me that:

The wizard was interrupted before LibreOffice 3.5 could be completely

 installed with a Finish Button.

I have tried several times. How can I make this a successful

 installation?

 Thanks,

Did you try what the installer suggested and exit the LibreOffice

again. Alternatively, open Windows Task Manager and end any processes

[libreoffice-users] We want to create a questionnaire...

2012-06-19 Thread JenS8
Hello,

We want to create a questionaire that people can fill out on their
computer and email back to us when complete.

How can we create a document with the following properties:

1. When person clicks on a blank, they can type in their answer, and
the underline characters [ ___ ] don't move to the right
2. We want some parts of the form to be uneditable. For example, the
headers, the instructions, the text that says what we expect in every
blank.
3.The document can be saved when completed, or even when partially completed
4. Check-boxes can be clicked on
5.Radio buttons (multiple choice) can be clicked on
6.The document is universal:
   a. People using Windows, Mac, Linux, Playbook, tablets can work on the
form
   b. People don't have to download a special program to fill the form

Thank you very much.

Fabian,

Yes, the person will be getting to the questionnaire/form through our
website, so a webpage, if it could do all this, is good.

However, the questionnaire is rather long; it has about 70-plus questions.
A text document may be better to use because the person can save their
progress and easily resume anytime.

This all can be done in LibreOffice Writer. You can create a .odt
document by using the tools that you can enable with View -- Toolbars
-- Form design, form navigation and forms control. After your done your
design you can export the .odt document as an .pdf. The pdf document can
be emailed out, filled in and then emailed back.

I use this for a lot of questionaires for my Lions Club activities. Also
under the libreoffice help read the sections under Forms.

Also this may help:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/images/7/73/WG3400-WriterGuideLO.pdf

Chapters 14 and 15.

Hope this help.

Note that the pop-up window asks me to 'Close LibreOffice 3.5 and 3.5

I think there must be an error in the installation system. How can I get

Thanks for trying!

 Hello,
I am trying to install LibreOffice 3.5 on my Windows 7 64-bit
 system,
   but
   it fails to complete.

I go through the process and click the Install Button, The UAC then

   appears

and I click that. Shortly after I get a separate widow which says:

Please exit LibreOffice 3.5 and the LibreOffice Quickstarter
 before you
   continue with an OK button

On clicking the OK button, the window disappears and the main
 installer
   tells me that:

The wizard was interrupted before LibreOffice 3.5 could be
 completely
   installed with a Finish Button.

I have tried several times. How can I make this a successful

   installation?

(I am a current user of LibreOffice 3.4)

   Thanks,

   Brian Charlton

Did you try what the installer suggested and exit the LibreOffice
Quickstarter (right click on the icon in the taskbar tray) then try
again. Alternatively, open Windows Task Manager and end any
 processes
   named soffice.

In fact you can test this easily: go to the User Data and just fill the
First and Last names (make sure all other fields are blank) with First and
Last, then open this document

Yes, I am aware that this SHOULD work ... but it doesn't.
For reasons I do not understand.
That is why I am asking.

Your document too opens on page 1, line 1.

Sometimes if I create a new document and LibreOffice feels like

And that is to my taste very annoying.

Is there anything else I could try?

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5 Installation problem

2012-06-19 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
As Dave said there are a few different ways to do this.  A couple more ways
1.  The best way is to uninstall the 3.4.x

2.  Alternatively before trying to install the 3.5.x 'just' open the 3.4.x and
go to
Tools - Options - Memory
and untick the option that is something like Start-up/Load LibreOffice on
system start-up/reboot/boot but then to make sure you properly install the
3.5.x alongside the 3.4 to keep both
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel

Dave's 1st option is probably the fastest way to deal with it.
Regards from
Tom :)

If you do try using them then you might realise how good they are.  If you
don't try them then you can only make guesses.

From what i have seen on these lists we have had a lot of problems with the
default dictionaries but only 1 with the ones on the NA site and that 1 was
fixed within hours (possibly minutes) of being reported

Ah, the vagaries of the English language with different spellings and

For some reason, I am somewhat wary of those:

I opened the file using LO 3.4.6 and 3.5.4. Both of them opened
your file Line 1 page 1. I have Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit using the DEB's from
the LO website.
As a test, I opened a document that I had worked on yesterday. The
cursor was blinking at the very point that I finished editing the document.
Why it would open a document to the place where work ended before
but not do this for another document is the real question.

If you jump to some other page, make a modification and save it, when you

Hi :)
Weird.  I thought i remembered Tim saying he had fixed it but then suddenly a
load of us kinda pounced on him and created confusion.

Still at least his dictionaries don't seem to be creating the types of
breakages we are getting for the default dictionaries!  We seem to get about 1
or 2 a week saying their spell-checker has stopped working but we don't seem to
get that issue when people have switched to the ones from the NA site.
Apols and regards from

Now let's have a look at 'offen':
offence
offence's
offenceful
offenceless
offencelessly
offences
offencive woops, looks like a 'c' to me.

offenseful
offenselessness
offenseproof
offensible
offension
offensively
offensiveness
offensiveness's
offensivenesses
offensives

Nope. No 'offensive' there.

No offence, but it doesn't appear fixed to me.

Obviously, it does matter. I had something else entered in the
user info, and it opened at the beginning of the document. When I
changed the first name to First and the last name to Last, it opened on
page 8 line 115.
I also note that when I am writing with Changes Record along
with Changes Show, different people editing my document have a
different colored font. Comments are also colored according to what is
contained in the user first and last name.
So, it seems the first and last names serve a variety of purposes.
It now also makes sense to enter information in the User section.

You are missing the point ;) There is no bug. In fact it works perfectly and
the way it works makes perfect sense.

There are only two limitations (at least under Windows...) that make this
feature less perfect:

1) The user data that shows (or that you fill) during install is useless and
is not used by LibreOffice (it seems to have been removed from the 3.6
installer which is good)
2) When LibreOffice is installed and executed for the very first time the
user data should be requested (with a brief explanation of what it is used
for)

Cheers,
Pedro

Hi :)
In a different document i found that even without any user-data in
File - Properties - Description
It still opened at the place where the cursor was when i last saved the
document (even though i hadn't edited anything there).

I did have a tick in
File - Properties - General - Apply user data
A quick but inconclusive test showed it seemed to recognise my login name as
the Author which would make sense.

It hadn't occurred to me to look for collaboration tools in Writer.  I don't
really need it and it would just confuse anyone i work with but it's good to
see some quite sophisticated tools are there.

Looking at the Dia Open options, it appears to only support the recent
Visio file types.

A possible alternative are CAD/CAE programs but I have not found one

Try downloading LO again, I am assuming you have a corrupted install
