Re: [libreoffice-users] BASE SQL problem
Hi! It works when you turn off the parser (direct SQL mode) but then you don't have an editable record set anymore. Ah yes, silly me. Because it complained that it had to use SQL view I assumed it was in SQL mode, it wasn't. Yes, selecting SQL mode got it to work, but only in a (too) limited sense. It (my stored query) doesn't work when I call it from a Writer document. Worse than that it doesn't work in a silent, partial, sense! :-( Not very happy about that. I wish they would drop all the pre-processing and the extremely stupid query designer. I think it's REALLY important to have tools like this, so less able people can use more powerful application. However, the tools mustn't stop the more able from using the application. Re: [libreoffice-users] pdf creation issue on a single file?
I was told that there are Security issues with 3.4.6. I download my version[s] of LO directly from LO's download pages, since it usually has the newest version[s] there well before the repositories do. For older distros of Linux, for me Ubuntu 10.04, you might never see anything newer than the 3.4.x line. I currently use 3.5.5 and have installed it on all of my systems that are not in storage. Maybe you might want to see about downloading 3.5.5 and give it a try. You do not need to, but the 3.5.x line works better than 3.4.6, or at least for me it is. Don and Kracked and maybe Lynne, I am running openSuSe 11.2 which I will agree is not the latest and greatest but it has worked for me. I will more than likely be upgrading to 12.2 when it is released. I am an EX-Windows user all the way from 3.11 to Win XP. I make no excuses that I am a KDE GUI user and have to admit whilst the cli seems far more capable in terms of package installation and dependencies, I do not know or understand the syntax and procedures i.e. to update to LO 3.5.5, without breaking anything on my current production system. The current version of LO in use here on Win is 3.3 and on Linux is 3.4.5. I had thought that perhaps 3.3 was a little dated and hoped that a newer version would assist for PDF creation, alas it did not. The 'Export to PDF' used to work on 3.3, even for a select number of Tabs in a Calc file, as I can do so for at least two other files, HOWEVER, The main problem is that it has stopped being able to be completed on this one file, and I do not know why. The export to PDF of only a selection of Tabs in Calc in certainly possible by holding down the Ctrl key and selecting the Tabs. Choosing File: Export as PDF brings up a menu box that you need to specify to make a PDF of 'the selection' as opposed to the whole file. There are other options i.t.o. recipients view, image compression etc. Confirming brings up a file manager window so you can select the location of the exported PDF file and also to name it in said location. I have LO installed on my Win 7 laptop and can access said file via SAMBA however I cannot write the PDF file from this specific Calc file onto the host file-system, even though no errors where found in a recent fsck on reboot? I know of many people who cannot use Linux due to software needs that will not run with WINE. I must keep a Windows system for both hardware and software needs. I prefer Ubuntu, but I know that most people will not switch to Linux no matter what we tell them. We need to get more and more Windows users to get away from MSO and get them to look into FOSS as a viable option for their software needs. For most users, Windows is a viable option over Linux. As long as they feel comfortable with it. I know we had a thread before about not telling people that my/your OS is better than someone else's. Every user has their own needs and own ideas of what OS is better for THEM. Right now we want to help users to see that LO is right for them, no matter which OS they use. I have it on 2 version of Windows and 2 versions of Ubuntu. We need to help users with their issues and not joke that there is something funny with the OS they are using. I do not find it to be funny. If a user is having problems with the Exporting/Printing to PDF that is a part of LO, then I would say that they need to install a PDF printer options - doPDF for Windows and some option depending on the version of Linux they use. Then test the PDF output with one of those PDF printers. If they have the same issue, then it is not the Exporting to PDF that is the issue. A different poster to this thread has come up with an option for the user to test. I am not a Calc person, so I look at the Exporting/Printing part of the issue and let some one else take on the possibility of it is something to do with the setup of the file itself and not the printing part of it. BUT whatever we do, we should not make fun of the user, his/her OS, the system used, or even state it is all due to them using an older version of LO. Not all of us have the money to buy a better system, have access to Broadband so they can download a newer version every time one comes out. No everyone will feel comfortable to use Linux for their system, or can change their OS due to some requirement that they have no control over. Business users may not own their systems and may have a difficult time even to be allowed to use LO instead of MSO. To be honest, we need to accept that we have a lot of Windows users that have the option to use MSO and we need to prove to them that LO is a viable option to use instead of buying

Re: [libreoffice-users] pdf creation issue on a single file?
I started out on mainframes when a small computer was the size of a refrigerator. Then I bought my first computer as a kit and ran PC DOS on it. So I have seen the PCs from their start. For Windows, I started using doPDF PDF printing software for maybe 8 or 10 years. I do not remember but I started using it on an XP laptop. I just printed the document as a PDF file instead to a physical paper printer. That was the best free option for PDF creation that I had found when I was using Windows. Now that I use Ubuntu 10.04 and 12.04, I use CUPS-PDF for my default printer. I do not remember when Export-to-PDF came in LO, but I started using it with 3.3.0, the first version. To be honest, doPDF and CUPS-PDF printing does everything I ask it to for portrait documents. For landscape docs that are to be viewed as a PDF file and not printed later, I need to use LO's PDF options. CUPS-PDF makes the PDF file formatted for printing portrait pages, with the text sideways in landscape mode. Not good if you want to read the PDF file with the default PDF reader package. I would like to look at the file and see if I can create a PDF file, properly, from it. I can try Win XP and Vista, along with Ubuntu. I can try Exporting to PDF and try doPDF and CUPS-PDF printing. It has to work some way. I do not have Win7, yet, but I want to upgrade the Vista part of a dual booting laptop to Win7 sometime this year. webmas...@krackedpress.com [email used for the lists] or webmas...@libreoffice-na.us [LO related email off the list] On 07/29/2012 11:32 AM, Hylton Conacher (ZR1HPC) wrote: On 28/07/12 19:45, Don C. With the PDF printer installed print the document to the PDF printer, like you would a paper printer. Then see if creating a PDF that way works. If it does, then it is the PDF Exporting option. If not it may be in some generic printing option or some other issue. I tend to use a PDF printer more than Exporting to PDF, since I print PDFs from many different packages and forget to use the Export option. I have PDF printing as my default printer. Help is much appreciated Hylton Thank you for commenting on the OP's initial problem, and not a Linux Windows word flame-war that bears no relation to the subject line, despite some valid suggestions being valid. Verify you have not marked in the same tab the option: Embed OpenDocument file. How could I check this via the GUI? I recreated the last graph and made sure there were no 'embeds' of any kind. Could non-standard fonts i.e. not Arial, also play a part? Further to this, issue it would seem that only the last created graph is being exported( but this is NOT the last selected Tab) as when I view the exported PDF, only a single page shows, instead of approx 12. Hylton Hi Hylton, sure I have not explained with the required detail. The option is in: Menu/File/Export as PDF/[General] - General - Embed OpenDocument file. If this option is enable the only chance is to export the complete document. This option embed the ods document in the pdf file, and if you later open this pdf in LibreOffice the ods document is open. IMO a very interesting option to share a document, an accurate view plus an edit file option. About other non related things with your question, you are right, IMHO people would be better answer what it is asked, and if they like to comment about other things start their own thread. Re: [libreoffice-users] Workaround for the Java 1.7.x compatibility problem
Hi all. Well I hate to say this but I tried the suggested solution, followed the instructions very carefully. Everything worked fine up to and including restarting LO after fixing the Java. I was able to go into tools options java and it shows the new version with no errors as described in the workaround. However, when I try to enable the accessibility functionality it still says the JRE is defective. I'm going to completely remove LO and do a clean install when I have time and see if this does anything but I'm out of patience and fed up with dealing with this for today. I am running Windows 7 32-bit so I do not have the complication of the 64-bit windows as discussed in the workaround. I believe I am running LO version 3.5.4.2 if memory serves. George Crossman LibreOffice is not the program to use to open .azw files. Does these files open properly on your Kindle? But if you want to read these files on your computer, you need a program like Calibre which is available for Linux, Mac and Windows. It is open source available at http://calibre-ebook.com/download. There is also a portable version of it for windows. --Dan -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-users] Workaround for the Java 1.7.x compatibility problem
A slight update. By installing I believe the Microsoft Visual C libraries as also suggested in the workaround mentioned in the original email I am able to eliminate the error message I was getting when I tried to enable accessibility however the accessibility functionality still does not seem to be entirely working. Specifically Supernova is still not able to read the menus or the state of checkboxes like it should be able to. It appears I am making some progress however. Reading AS Ending ON Ending.ID =1 + Beginning.ID Try the following SELECT date, meter FROMReading WHEREdate = initial date OR date = ending date (date = '4/1/2012' OR date = '4/30/2012' - using correct date format for your system) Perhaps you are right about keys being intended for the internal workings of the database. While I don't have an example of one key being the multiple of the other key, it is possible. It just might not have any practical applications. Keys are intended in an relational database to uniquely identify each row of data. While often being integers any unique string or group of columns can be a key. For example, if there is only one date entry for each date you could use the date as a key. The reason integers are typically used is that they allow the possible multiple entry of a date in a table because each entry would assigned a different integer. The key value id = 100 has no required mathematical relation to the key value id = 200, mostly likely all this means is there are 100 entries since 100th entry. Otherwise there may no connection be the two entries. For example, two companies could have the same name - Fred's Wholesale Produce but be located in different states (Kentucky and Indiana for example). A key of company name and state is possible but often awkward to use when accessing other tables such as orders or purchases. Integer id's allow for accessing other tables by using on field which happens to a unique integer. An Orders table might have the following initial columns: id, id_vendor, id_PO_items PO, Date etc. The id is a unique key for the Orders table, the id_vendor refers to the id in a separate vendor table which might have the vendor contact information. The Id_PO_items might refer to a table which lists each item order with appropriate vendor information. --Dan -- Jay Lozier jsloz...@gmail.com -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
