It depend on LO version. Any existing macro working in latest AOO should also
work in LO 3.6 and earlier. LO 4.0 has some changes in API that may render
macros (and extensions) unusable, depending if they rely on changed parts of
API or not.

For excessive list of changes take a look at release notes of 4.0:

The same may go to 4.1, 4.2 etc. Any changes in API will be noted on release

Here you can read about what the thesaurus is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thesaurus

Thanks in advance,

András

Here is the definition of thesaurus according to your link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thesaurus - A thesaurus is a reference
work that lists words grouped together according to similarity of
meaning (containing synonyms and sometimes antonyms), in contrast to a
dictionary, which contains definitions and pronunciations.

The one[s] I have installed, with 4.0.0, shows similar terms. For
belly it shows several types of nouns and verb replacements for that
word/term. I also know that there are adjectives and adverbs listed for
some words. These may be listed by other thesaurus systems as synonym,
derivatives, kind of, kinds, and parts. I have even seen the term of
domain listed under the term relatives.

So, we have the synonyms and other relatives. As for antonyms, well I
have not looked at a lot of words in the thesaurus system/file[s] I use,
but we are dependent on others to create these for us. Actually, my
book thesaurus is a Roget's 21st Century Thesaurus and I do not see
antonyms listed for the words I looked at.

As far as I know, most of the dictionary and thesaurus options are based
on the WordNet and Hunspell format and offerings. We rely on these
free offerings, and others, to be able to have language aids included
in LibreOffice.

SO, please tell us what is used by a librarian/library as a reference
thesaurus. I would like to know. What do you mean by real thesaurus
used by librarians.

Also, I use an offline dictionary[definitions] and thesaurus called
Artha that I use on my Ubuntu/Linux and Windows systems. This is
free, like LibreOffice. I looked up many words using it, over the past
few years, and I do not remember if it showed and antonyms.

[libreoffice-users] has anyone seen page scaling option in LO printing?

2013-03-04 Thread webmaster-Kracked_P_P

I was wondering. . .
Has anyone seen the page scaling option when printing within LO?

This is a needed option that is shown within the printing options for
non-LO packages. The scaling options are: None, Shrink to Printing
Area, and Fit to Printing Area. It is a part of the Page Handling tab
when I print the PDF version of the document from the Ubuntu default
viewer I need this option to be set to None when I print brochures
and other documents that are formatted to the page with folded panels.

So has anyone seen this option printing within LO for your printing?

I normally set it to shrink to printing area to deal with the
header/footer lines when printing a web page to a PDF file using
CUPS-PDF printing optionwith Firefox. So it is a pain to set it to
none for a brochure testprint via the System/Administration/Printing
option/menu, and then set it back again for my normal printing.

I have a writer document with a table. The first col is formatted
as date, but when I enter today ( 3/4/13 ) the 3/4 is formatted
as a small 3/4th.

I checked the col formatting and it really is date (MM/DD/YY)

Any thoughts or suggestions ?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Fill Writer document with MySQL Query.

2013-03-04 Thread Mark Stanton
Very easy to do.

Use Base to map to the data you want. If all the fields aren't one
table then create a query that does generate the data you want and
save the query.

Use the mailmerge facility to create a document and connect to the
data you want. Create fields for the data fields.

Run the mailmerge and step something-or-other (four?) gives you
opportunity to save your results, save the mailmerged result as
separate Writer documents. Simples!

I do not see many antonyms listed.

I just wonder what is meant by a real thesaurus used by librarians.
To be honest, my printed book thesaurus does not show much more
than LO's thesaurus or Athra's thesaurus information .

Hi :)
Don't worry about saying something is wrong or troublesome and then finding the
best way afterwards.  Just if you do fix your own issues please let the list
know so that we don't keep trying to help solve an issue that you have already
solved yourself.

If something is not intuitive then it might help other people learn how to use
LibreOffice better.  Sometimes things might be more intuitive to people that
haven't grown used to weird ways used by competitors, in which case it helps us
anticipate questions other people might ask while they are migrating too.

OpenSource has a reputation for rude answers such as Rtfm with no useful
links or anything.  However a lot of the gateway projects such as LibreOffice,
Ubuntu, Firefox and others tend to be a LOT more friendly

Re: [libreoffice-users] definition of flat/relational database

2013-03-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I thought Queries were in Sql but Base mostly allows you to build them up in a
gui rather than having to learn the Sql that it gets translated into?  I
learned a little Sql but not enough to be useful so i prefer using the
pointclick type gui.

Also Base is a bit different form MS's version in that forms are best done in
Writer and that makes it easier to format forms decently without having to
learn a complicated and different gui.  Access's forms seemed to switch the Alt
and Ctrl keys around for thing like selecting fields and stuff.

Quite possibly i have completely missed the point.  I got confused by that 1st
sentence.  Is there soem attempt to reinvent the wheel rather than use Qt
libraries (or whatever) for pop-up boxes and stuff?

Tom :)
