Hi Johnny,
Just a few thoughts in an attempt to narrow down the problem :

- which version of OpenOffice.org did you originally use to create the
file ?
- the cells that show Err 522, do they have a particular formula that
requires recalculation ?
- if there is a formula in these cells, does it involve calculating
strings with en empty, NULL or Zero value ?

Re: [libreoffice-users] How to downgrade from 4.0.2. to 3.6.6

2013-04-23 Thread William Drago
The problem is solved. I increased memory as was suggested
and that fixed it. The strange thing is, I reverted back to
the old memory settings and it's still fixed. Don't know
why. There was a Windows update this evening. I wonder if
that had anything to do with it and it wasn't a LO issue at all?

Hi.
I have had this with EPS drawings (with/without preview) for a long
time. For those to not cause a problem I turn off
Options>Load/Save>General>Save auto recovery information.
Just a suggestion, you could give it a try.

The bug that makes LO 4 unusable for me is drawings no longer save
when pasted into Writer (exit LO, re-open the document, and the
drawings are gone). A significant amount of my work involves making
drawings in LO Draw and using them in Writer documents. What I have
been doing as a workaround is pasting screenshots of the drawings

Do you have a link to the beta versions? I have the opensuse
version of 4.0.2 with latest update (yesterday) and 4.0.2 from
LibreOffice parallel
installed. Both had same two major problems for me since my
cleints now usually send .docx documents and I do alot of table
formatting with the number formatting columns, some of it
doesn't work again.

If I could get a hold of 4.0.3 and if it still has the problems
I'll
report them again as bugs.

[libreoffice-users] Toolbar Names

2013-04-23 Thread Toki
All:

Is there any way for users to edit/rename toolbars that were created by
extensions they installed?

By way of example: I have "toolbar 13", "toolbar 26", "toolbar 17", and
"toolbar 12". I'd like to rename them to "Readability Data", "Hindu
Transliteration", "Navigator", and "Pixelize".

Perhaps more important, would it be possible to have the team that
organizes and maintains the extension part of LibO to automaticalloy
reject all extension which add toolbars, but do not give them usable
labels/names?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Create a list of ascending numbers with repeats

2013-04-23 Thread Steve Edmonds
LO seems to extend the series with 5 x 1s, 5 x 2s and then 10 x 3s, 10 x
4s, etc. Possibly a bug and should be 5 x 3s, 5 x 4s, etc. I have found
a couple of other cases where the series does not extend well. 123 was
very good at extending series.

I found Calligra gets it right.

Hi,

Cant figure out how to create a list of: 1,1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2,2...
the drag-down menu makes the list as follows:
1,1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2,2,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3

Thanks,

2013-04-23 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Did anyone ask which OS and which web-browser?  There are some web-browsers
that work only on the command-line and use Ascii to make images and stuff.
Very light-weight and fun but a bit impractical.  Plus they probably don't have
a Windows version.  Scaling up a bit i bet there is a light-weight web-browser
that you could install and have as an occasional alternative.  I tend to have 2
or 3 web-browsers on a machine jic i suddenly need to check something.

It means circular references, but in my case it probably means
something else, because I have more than double checked: There are no
circular references! Well, I said that before, didn't I? I think so.

I always used to file bug reports, but since I switched to LibreOffice
they are just too many. I wouldn't have time for anything else if I
wrote a bug report every time I found a new bug. Maybe I file every
tenth bug or so, so it's not that I'm doing absolutely nothing, but
no, I don't think I filed this particular one. I was going to, but I
would need to attach that particular document, with a lot of data that
I need to rename first and so on, just too much work, especially at
that speed…

Anyway, now that I saved the document with Apache OpenOffice,
LibreOffice opened it much faster and that several minutes wait after
every cell entry was suddenly gone, it now takes approximately one
second. Maybe Apache OpenOffice fixed it somehow?

And even funnier, Apache OpenOffice now takes a few seconds coffee
break for every cell entry in that file (at least it's not minutes)!
If I am going to file a bug report, I am not really sure what to
write, I'm just too confused right now, I don't know what happens;
maybe I'm just dreaming all this…

That has all sounded like a tfn tbh.  I've never heard of the Err 522 before.
I was hoping it was something trivial such as memory or something.  I guess you

[libreoffice-users] Re: Am I the only one with Err 522 problems?

Another problem with that sheet is that everything takes unbelievable
long time. If I enter something in a cell, then hit Enter, I need to
wait for something like a minute (yes, minute! Not second!) or two
before anything happens, so the whole sheet is just a waste of time.

Today I installed LibreOffice 3.6.6, but my problems with that file persists.
The Ctrl+Shift+F9 thing cures the problem (the Err:522 messages
disappears and are replaced with correct cell values) sometimes, maybe
once out of 5 or 10 in average, but sometimes when I do that,
LibreOffice crash. However, so far, when I ”repair” the file, there
are never any error messages. So I continue entering new values, save
and close. Next day, when I open the file again, those Err:522
messages are back again. That's what my life looks like every day
these days.

Just for fun, I installed Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 a few minutes ago
and I tried to open the file with it. After fiddling with macro
security (adding the path where the file is located), the spreadsheet
opened, and opened very much faster than LibreOffice. Unfortunately,
the Err:522 messages was there again, but Apache OpenOffice seems a
lot faster than LibreOffice, so it doesn't waste my time as much.
After copying the first one of the Err:522 cells and pasting it to
itself, all the Err:522 messages were gone again. And that also
happened much faster than with LibreOffice.

So now I started to enter new values. As I said above, from hitting
Enter until LibreOffice stop freezing (it works with something, I
don't have a clue what) it typically takes a minute or two, maybe
more. With Apache OpenOffice it took way less than a second.

I realise that nobody will ever even move a finger to investigate what
could possible be wrong with the combination ”My Err:522-file” and
LibreOffice, so I will just run away from the problem and use Apache
OpenOffice for that particular spreadsheet (and maybe all other office
documents in the future, but that's too early to say after trying out
Apache OpenOffice for only half an hour or so…).

Solved. At least for now.

One difference between my installations of Apache OpenOffice and
LibreOffice, is that I didn't ”import” my LibreOffice settings to
Apache OpenOffice yet (settings of different kinds), so it's quite
possible, I guess, that when I do that, I will experience the same
problems with Apache OpenOffice. The only thing I iknow right now, is
that with the settings I have now and with those two office suites, I
just don't have time to wait for LibreOffice doing weird things in the
background, freezing for minutes for every cell entry.

Re: [libreoffice-users] How to downgrade from 4.0.2. to 3.6.6

2013-04-23 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Both and any other settings in there too.

For some reason i drop the number of undo steps as 100 seems fairly excessive
to me but then it depends on the type of editing.  I think i usually create
back-ups or newer versions more often than that anyway.

The defaults seem set for ancient machines or VERY mobile ones that might not
have much or any Ram or anything.  Nowadays, on a reasonable desktop, 10-15Mb
per object doesn't seem unreasonable and i might have quite a lot of objects.
Adding front and back-pages of my newsletter i get around 25 images but then
it's mostly just 2 per page for the rest.  I've not really messed around with
this machine and it seems very low with only 20Mb for the "use for LibreOffice"
so i might bump that up quite a lot.  I do have over 1Gb of Ram after all! :)

Regards from
Tom :)

Hi :)
Did you ever get a satisfactory answer?  All my stuff seemed to be work-arounds
or completely off-topic.  Hopefully helpful but not dealing with the original
question.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Create a list of ascending numbers with repeats

2013-04-23 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)

I couldn't see the problem tbh, sorry!

Is it that there are 5 x 1s, 5 x 2s and then 10 x 3s?  Did you want just 5 x 3s
and then 5 x 4s?  or were you expecting it to go back to 1s instead of
progressing to 3s?

Apols and regards from

Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] How to downgrade from 4.0.2. to 3.6.6

2013-04-23 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Thanks :)

Hmm, that vanishing images problem kinda sounds familiar! :(  It was discussed
on the Documentation Team's mailing list a couple of years ago so i have CC'd
this email to them as they found a good work-around.

I found that bumping up the memory settings seemed to help a bit
Tools - Options - Memory
but mostly the problem seemed to vanish when i had saved the images in the same
folder as the document, or in a sub-folder as would happen with html pages.  I
was never completely sure if the main answer was having the document and images
on my local desktop rather than some on the network and some on the
file-server.  The problem eventually disappeared for me but i was never
entirely certain why.

The issue is a long-running bug that really seems to be a collection of bugs
each of which has the same final outcome but each having very different causes
with different variables.  The Docs Team managed to pin-down 1 specific
instance and that seemed to get fixed.  Another problem is that the bug(s)
is/are very rare and difficult to reproduce so it's difficult to pin anything
down.  After it almost magically stopped misbehaving on my own machine i could
not get it to happen again on any machine at work :(   (or should that be a
smiley rather than a frown?)

Regards from
Tom :)

Re: [libreoffice-users] How to downgrade from 4.0.2. to 3.6.6

2013-04-23 Thread William Drago
Well, I may wait for 4.0.3 and see if that fixes anything. I
did check the bugs list and I don't see my specific bug
mentioned, but it may manifest itself in different ways, so
maybe it will be fixed in 4.0.3.

The bug that makes LO 4 unusable for me is drawings no
longer save when pasted into Writer (exit LO, re-open the
document, and the drawings are gone). A significant amount
of my work involves making drawings in LO Draw and using
them in Writer documents. What I have been doing as a
workaround is pasting screenshots of the drawings into Writer.

Thanks for all the replies...

Do you have a link to the beta versions? I have the opensuse version of
4.0.2 with latest update (yesterday) and 4.0.2 from LibreOffice parallel
installed. Both had same two major problems for me since my cleints now
usually send .docx documents and I do alot of table formatting with the
number formatting columns, some of it doesn't work again.

If I could get a hold of 4.0.3 and if it still has the problems I'll
report them again as bugs.
