 Hi, my first post here.

I am presently running LibreOffice 3.5:build-413, Build ID:
 350m1(Build:413) on OS: Linux 3.4.47-2.38-desktop x86_64, System:
 openSUSE 12.2 (x86_64) and KDE: 4.8.5 (4.8.5) release 2openSUSE 12.2
desktop. I know there is a more recent LO version but not on openSUSE
 12.2 repo site.

I have just had to start using LO as my usual word processor Lotus
WordPro (on OS/2 Warp 4.5) is not available as machine is under repair.

My main use of LO will be for business correspondence and I need some
help with templates. In WordPro my template has company details in the
header but I am able to supress this on the second and subsequent
sheets. Is it possible to do this in LO and if not how do I achieve the
same objective of having different header (blank) on sheets 2 onwards.
Also how do I keep numbering in footer correct?

 Budge

Welcome Budge,

What you need to do is have two separate Page Styles, one for the
first page and one for the remaining pages. See:
https://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Creating_and_Applying_Page_Styles
For more detailed information see chapters 6 7 of the Writer User
Guide: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/
or:
http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/writer-guide/published-lo-3.6
Once you have created the styles with the first page header, etc. save
the document layout as a template. Chapter 10 of the Writer User Guide
covers templates.

Hope this helps.

Dave

[libreoffice-users] Re: trying to integrate oracle forms with libreoffice

2013-08-02 Thread pasqual milvaques pons
libreofffice works well with ole, you can test it with the script in this
page:
http://www.openoffice.org/udk/common/man/tutorial/office_automation.html

the problem is that the libreoffice's api is not the same as the one of m.
office so you must adapt the ole calls to do the work with libreoffice. this
is not a lot of work if you have already worked a bit with libreoffice
macros, some months ago I adapted an app which did the calls with jscript in
this way and was quite easy

the problem happens when the calls are inside a closed source component
(probably your situation) or you have an obscure mediator component (my
situation)

As I mentioned, that depends on the precise possibilities in the bank
data. If the relevant data is always in the same columns of the relevant
records, you can probably extract it using MID(); otherwise you may need to
do a more complicated search through the text.

yes, left() or mid() is quicker if the contents are fixed. In Don's
worse case scenario, where the bank's records have descriptions that are
random, unpredictable in length and sequence, and change daily, but at
least have predictable strings (eg store name) somewhere in them, try

=IF(ISERR(FIND(LOWER(VLOOKUP(D$3,List1,2)),Data.$D4))=1,,D$3)

The key elements in the formula are *find *(to tag the transaction) and
*vlookup *(to return the entity), with if(), iserr() and lower() acting
in support.

where
a) the formula is repeated for each string in a table alongside the
transaction, with each column trying it's luck and the last column
identifying the ID (by summing the row of possible ID's where
non-responses =0)
b) iserr()=1 is used to identify if the transaction contains the key
entity (if the field lacks the text, the cell blanks out, if it has the
text, it returns the ID of the entity)

c) if() is used to tag the transaction with the entity's code
d) lower() is used because find() is case sensitive, and ties to the
instruction to lower-casify the descriptions in sheet 2 (data) (equally
use upper(), though it makes for wider description fields)
e) find() is used to see if the description contains the text or not
(the actual position of the text is irrelevant)

f) vlookup() refers to List1, which is the table of entities and their code
g) d$3 is the entity ID at the head of the column, where multiple
columns apply their own string to the description

_Working example__
_https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6LXy9sguZVkcXRBbGUxQVVvT1k/edit?usp=sharing
gives a working example for 1000 transactions and 31 strings
1. Enter the text string in sheet 1 (summary) - the example allocates
the entity ID and allows for 31 entities, where the first 7 are colour coded
2. Drop the bank data in sheet 2 (data)*. Remember to **|format|change
case = lower case the descriptions* - the example allows for 1000
transactions
3. See the processing in sheet 3 (analysis) - the 1000 transactions are
auto-tagged for 31 texts, the 1st 7 are also colourised
4. Back to sheet 1 (summary), where the entitles are totalled for debits
and credits in the month you choose and their frequency counted.

The summary page sub-totals the transactions using dsum
=IF($H4=0,,DSUM(Result,F$3,$C3:$C4))
There are some embellishments, such as |validation (to show or hide
non-key entities and to limit the summary to a month or not)

The sheets are protected against changes but there is no password. To
edit, just undo the protection.

I hope this helps

Perhaps someone could pass it on to the Marketing List to nominate it as an

There's always a list of things that could go in but it's tricky to pick on the

Re: [libreoffice-users] Printing specific pages in 4.1 writer

2013-08-02 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
We just got an Oki MB471

Dead easy to set-up to print and does all the duplexing and everything just
fine.  Oki had a ppd driver on their website.

There is no driver for faxing and i haven't tried scanning yet either.

I thought the whole thing was going to be a total nightmare in GnuLinux
because our Oki C810 still doesn't work.  There was a ppd for the C610 but that
doesn't work for the 810.  The main problem for me is that there seems to be
hundreds of drivers that are listed through OpenPrinting and places
specifically for the C810 but none of the ones i have tried so far work at all.

So, i was quite surprised that it took about 10mins per machine to sort the
MB471 in GnuLinux but about an hour to go through the Windows installer.

Hewlett Packard just seem to be easy whichever system you are using.  They seem
to last longer and even appear in 2nd hand listings which hardly any other
printers do.  Ages ago i asked this list for advice about the best printer to
choose and got some good advice which my boss ignored.

Tom :)

Well, I have not installed 4.1 yet, but the Print dialogs option

When I was having all my issues with my printer[s] not duplexing

Item 29 is Best Office Suite, but you may also wish to nominate your
preferred programs in other categories as well.

Thanks. I just nominated Apache OpenOffice in that category. I have
had much less problems with it than with LibreOffice. It even fixed a
spreadsheet of mine that LibreOffice corrupted…

Voting occurs later in August.

Yes, but what year? I quote:
”Remember, voting will open on August 2, 2011. Please be sure to visit
www.linuxjournal.com/rc2011 after that time to cast your vote in the
2011 Readers' Choice Awards!”

Okay, maybe they live in a special time zone. Here in Sweden it has
been 2013 for quite a while now. I guess we are a little bit ahead… :P

Re: [libreoffice-users] Calc - Matching Up Text Fields

2013-08-02 Thread Don Parris
Hi Errol,

Many thanks for the example. I will play with this over the weekend to see
how it works. I will drop a note (probably next week) to let you know how
it goes. I've been blogging about my project here and there, so maybe this
will be another step I can blog about. My post about connecting LOBase to
PostgreSQL is still the top-ranked story on my site, so hopefully I can add
some more LO action. :-)

Again, I just need to figure out how to extract that bit from the bank's
 description. Any thoughts on that?

As I mentioned, that depends on the precise possibilities in the bank
data. If the relevant data is always in the same columns of the relevant
records, you can probably extract it using MID(); otherwise you may need
 to
do a more complicated search through the text.

yes, left() or mid() is quicker if the contents are fixed. In Don's worse
case scenario, where the bank's records have descriptions that are random,
unpredictable in length and sequence, and change daily, but at least have
predictable strings (eg store name) somewhere in them, try

 =IF(ISERR(FIND(LOWER(VLOOKUP(**D$3,List1,2)),Data.$D4))=1,,**D$3)

The key elements in the formula are *find *(to tag the transaction) and
*vlookup *(to return the entity), with if(), iserr() and lower() acting in
 support.
 where
 a) the formula is repeated for each string in a table alongside the
transaction, with each column trying it's luck and the last column
identifying the ID (by summing the row of possible ID's where non-responses
 =0)

 b) iserr()=1 is used to identify if the transaction contains the key
entity (if the field lacks the text, the cell blanks out, if it has the
text, it returns the ID of the entity)
 c) if() is used to tag the transaction with the entity's code
 d) lower() is used because find() is case sensitive, and ties to the
instruction to lower-casify the descriptions in sheet 2 (data) (equally use
upper(), though it makes for wider description fields)
 e) find() is used to see if the description contains the text or not (the
actual position of the text is irrelevant)
 f) vlookup() refers to List1, which is the table of entities and their code
 g) d$3 is the entity ID at the head of the column, where multiple columns
apply their own string to the description

 _Working example__
 _https://docs.google.com/file/**d/**0B6LXy9sguZVkcXRBbGUxQVVvT1k/**
 edit?usp=sharinghttps://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6LXy9sguZVkcXRBbGUxQVVvT1k/edit?usp=sharinggives
a working example for 1000 transactions and 31 strings
 1. Enter the text string in sheet 1 (summary) - the example allocates the
entity ID and allows for 31 entities, where the first 7 are colour coded

 =IF($H4=0,,DSUM(Result,F$3,$**C3:$C4))
There are some embellishments, such as |validation (to show or hide
non-key entities and to limit the summary to a month or not)

The sheets are protected against changes but there is no password. To
 edit, just undo the protection.
 I hope this helps
