I may be completely confused, but if you're trying to clone a document
that originated in Word, then that makes things a little more
complicated. In my experience, Word and LO do outline numbering in
different ways and they don't translate well with each other.

The document originates from LO and is exported to Word.

What I learn from the discussion so far is that there is apparently no
simple solution. hm... Why could there not be an option in style loading to
simply include all outline styles?

[libreoffice-users] non-mainstream

2014-05-20 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Last week we had an interesting thread, at least i thought so, about how
most of us are probably on the aspergers/autism spectrum. About how that
might actually be a benefit despite being possibly mislabelled as a
'dis'ability. Sure, for some people it is too extreme and may be crippling
or maybe it's still a benefit for a lucky few who maybe worked hard to
make the most of it. Many of us have tiny amounts of it and even that is
sometimes just enough to set us outside of mainstream society.

At the end of the week i unwisely went to a pub with a friend who started
pointing out some of my eccentricities and physically held onto me to
prevent me from leaving. Errr she's quite a hot chick so it wasn't all bad
and when we go out i try to realise that almost all the glances and stares
we get are because of her. Just before disappearing inside myself i looked
around to reassure myself that everyone around me was different in their
ways but found just a sea of white faces and all dressed in a very similar
way to each other = nothing like me nor like almost any friend.

I'm guessing there are a lot of people here who feel 'outside' of
mainstream society for at least 1 reason or other. Here on the list i feel
safe because no-one can judge any one else on such randomness as skin
colour.

Do other people here feel like they are outside of a mainstream society in
a way that might show up in a photo or face-to-face? I think in a photo i
might look too mainstream. A static 2 dimensional image often misses a lot
of the character of a person. Would it be good to collect a bunch of
photos that show us using LibreOffice? Maybe focussing mostly on the
screen but enough of a hint of you or a friend that the photo gives an
impression of someone interesting. On the other hand maybe it is best that
we stick with the images we have of each other in our minds-eye?

I like the idea of a montage of different users so that almost anyone
looking at the montage might recognise something of themselves in one or
more of the people in the montage. If you email photos to me privately i
might be able to get a local artist to put it together. I would avoid
naming names unless you specifically tell me to include it.

The term 'mainstream' is quite flexible and might be very different in some
countries or amongst some cultures. If we look at the photos used in our
marketing then simply wearing a suit would make you stand out and it might
be good to see that sort of thing mixed in too.

Regards from
Tom :)

Because outlines are not controlled by styles.

In what format are you saving the document? Protection features are
designed to operate when documents are saved in LibreOffice's native
Open Document Format format. If you save the file in some other
format than .ods, you may be able to bypass the protection.

I trust this helps.

[libreoffice-users] Printer Page/Paper Size?

2014-05-20 Thread Jim Seymour
Hi All,

I'm not much of an office suite guy, so please forgive me if I'm trying
to do something utterly stupid :)

Scenario: Just yesterday our Canon copier/printers were swapped out for
newer models. (It didn't go as smoothly as was promised.) Now one of
my users cannot print to 11x17 paper.

As an experiment I created a simple text document with LO Writer, then
tried to get it to print to 11x17. No matter what I did, the page size
kept going back to 8.5x11. File - Print - Properties Change to
11x17. Without doing anything else: Go back to Properties: *Bang*,
back to 8.5x11

That's on a Win7 box.

I'm playing with it on my WinXP laptop and it's doing the same thing.

Yet, on both machines, if, in the printer properties, I go to Paper
Source and mouse over the bottom drawer, the tooltip shows Drawer 4,
Paper Size: 11x17, Paper Supply: 100%

Both installs are LO 4.1.4.2

The copier/printer things are Canon iR-ADV 4251s

So what gives?

Thanks,
Jim

I take it that you have removed the old printer drivers from your Win7
systems and installed the newest of the drivers for the new Canon
printer/copier machines. Sometimes the drivers on the included CD/DVD
are not as up to date as the ones you can find on the Canon web site[s].

Personally, I would rename the current user profile so that LO can
rebuild it with the newest printers in it.

I do not have a big printer/copier, but I do have a printer that does
11x17 and even 13x19 inches. So I can relate a little. I do also have
3 different Canon printers - two currently installed on my network and
one as a backup device - so I know that sometimes Canon printers get
updates through the Win7 Windows Update service. I do not use Win7 as
much as I do with Linux Mint, but I have noticed that in the past few
months, both networked Canon printers have has MS Win7 updates.

So, please start with the renaming of the user profile folder for LO
that is in the roaming folder for Win7 App Data style of folder. The
Win7 system is not handy to give you the exact folder name/sequence.

I know this might not help, but you may wish to install the newest of
the 4.1.x line - 4.1.6.2 to see if there is an issue with your current
version. Since that is the latest and, most like the last, of the 4.1.x
line, it would have all of the bug fixes for that line so it might work
better in some respects than your 4.1.4 version.

A question - what are in the other drawers for paper size? Was the
11x17 in the 4th drawer in the older printers or is the new ones
different enough that the paper drawers have a size arrangement? That is
another reason to start with a fresh user profile to stop any issues
there. It would be even worse if both printers were so close in type
that the drivers look alike to LO's printing system that it got
confused with some profile glitch when the new printers were installed.

You should try to find out what is going on when your pages start
looking as if you could fit 4 or even 8 pages on a single sheet. That is
a glitch that I have seen come up with MS Office, let alone LO, and it
is due to a glitch that happens in the printer driver setting that
sometimes require the removal of the printer and driver off the system
and a reinstall of the printer, to fix the problem.

So along with the user profile glitch, it could be a Windows driver
one with more than one printer that are closely related - like a 922 and
a 924 or such that use the same driver series for several printers.
The fact that both the Win7 and XP systems are doing the same thing and
maybe other Win7 systems are not lead me to a driver issue/glitch and/or
a combination with the user profile glitch.

I know that this might not be much help, but those are the things I
would look into.

I doubt that.

Scenario: Just yesterday our Canon copier/printers were swapped out
for newer models. (It didn't go as smoothly as was promised.) Now
one of my users cannot print to 11x17 paper. That's on a Win7 box.

Was the correct printer driver for the new printer installed on each PC?

As an experiment I created a simple text document with LO Writer,

You may be suffering from Worditis. Unlike Microsoft Office, which
treats page size as a matter solely for printer settings, LibreOffice
- more sensibly, in my opinion - treats page size as an aspect of
page format. If you want to print a 11 x 17 page, you will first
have to set the page to that size at Format | Page... | Page | Paper
format | Format.

I trust this helps.

[libreoffice-users] Spell Check Dictionary

2014-05-20 Thread Mark LaPierre
Hey All,

I've noticed that LibreOffice does not remember the words that I add to
my dictionary when I open a new document that contains the same words I
just added in the previous document. Every new document does not
recognize the spelling of words that I have added when editing earlier
documents. It behaves as though it is adding the words to a dictionary
that is contained within the individual document instead of adding them
to a dictionary that is located in my home and referenced by all
documents even though I know this is not the case because the document
is in plain text format that I can open with any ordinary text editor
such as gedit, on the desk top, or vim in a shell.

If I open the same document again, the next day of example, the words
that I added to the dictionary previously when editing that same
document are not marked as misspelled, but if I open a new document the
words are not recognized there.

I've spent a couple of hours reading the LibreOffice Word manual and
searching with Google to no avail.

Is there a setting somewhere that I've missed that will allow the use of
a local dictionary? Is this a known bug?
