[libreoffice-users] Can't create folders in document directory

2021-03-22 Thread Peggy
I am having a major problem that started a few weeks ago.

Documents Directory is selected. I click on “New Folder” at top or click on
documents and choose new folder from the menu, the try to name the folder.

Consistent error message:

“Can’t find the specified file.

Make Sure you specify the correct path and file name.”

When I click try again I get a message that the file or folder does not
exist.

So weird since I’m not looking for a file! And the error messages make no
sense.

I’ve checked a few folders in my document directory and they are “read
only” Documents inside are readable, but I can’t make a new folder to put
them into.

Uninstalled LibreOffice and reinstalled: same problem.

Should I look for another open source writer?

[libreoffice-users] Can't save Font changes to my template (or any template)

2018-09-23 Thread Peggy
I've tried several ways after searching, including one that's supposed to
be for the latest LibreOffice. It's writer I want to change since I don't
use the others. Also I try to set the paragraph spacing the way I want and
it won't stick. A footer with page number will stick.

Every time I set up "My Template" or try to edit the derfault Template to
get rid of Liberation serif which I dislike, to Arial, it changes itself
back on subtitle, etc.. Even if I save a file set up the way I want and
open it, the default fonts have changed. I've spent an hour trying to find
a way to create a template or even a file, making a desktop shortcut so I
can open that file as a template, and nothing works.

Does someone know how to change the default Template permanently and then
how to pin that one to the taskbar permanently?

[libreoffice-users] Java for browsers different than for LibreOffice?

2018-08-31 Thread Peggy
I found a 64bit Java download It says it can cause problems in 32Bit
browsers (which is the usually installed one for firefox.) There is also a
link to show how to disable it in the browser.

I am totally confused. Should I install the one that seems to be for
browsers, or is there something different for LibreOffice?

Or should I just download the one I found, move it into LibreOffice through
the instructions sent by Remy, and disable it in firefox? Or will disabling
it in firefox mess it up in Libre Office?

As you can tell, I am totally tech challenged! :(

2018-08-31 Thread Peggy
Sorry about the attachemnts. I'm not sure how to find a file-sharing site.

I only have the one version of Java. Someone sent me a message about it
needing to be 64 bits, since that's what my LibreOffice is. I've installed
the 32Bit version. Now I just have to find the other one.

Thanks so much for you and the other two replies!

[libreoffice-users] JRE help please

2018-08-31 Thread Peggy
I installed JRE several days ago and have closed Libre Office, but I still
get this message when I try to run a macro.

"LibreOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this
task. Please install a JRE and restart LibreOffice."

Under the Java Control Panel > General it says that Java in the browser is
enabled. I'm attaching a view of what it says "Java > view.

Did I install the wrong thing or does anyone have suggestions?

Thank you!

[libreoffice-users] Writer Document is dark

2018-08-15 Thread Peggy
I have been editing a document that I created. When I opened it to finish
the last of the editing, It unusable. The pages are dark in a graduating
way. The top is unreadable and gradually it lightens towards the bottom.

I dread having to edit it again. I worked for hours on the file. Has anyone
had this happen? Is there a way to fix it?

Thank you so much for any help!

Re: [libreoffice-users] Calc

2018-08-13 Thread Peggy
The person who has the file available downloaded and opened it without a
problem. She suggested I try restarting my computer. There are two versions
of the file one with the ODF extension and one with the Microsoft
extension. Neither worked for me. I did restart my computer but haven't had
time to find the file to try it again.

My computer is old. The operating system has some problems, especially
printing. It prints PDF files and emails in tiny script so I have to use a
capture program to print those. My video card is also starting to hiccup so
I ordered another, much smaller computer. I haven't wanted to wipe this one
and start from scratch, so put up with the glitches. I have windows 10 on
my laptop which I don't use much, but I don't like the start menu. Will
have to get used to it now. Hopefully the compensation will be, after I
install everything I need, that the printing will work right (I tried a new
printer so it has to be the operating system) and maybe the ODF file will
open.

More than you wanted to know. Thanks for your reply!

2018-08-10 Thread Peggy
Thanks to all of you for helping me to understand how it works.
Unfortunately, when I tried to open the file with (what I thought was
Writer but was any of them as I now understand) it was saved with the SLSX
extenstion, LibreOffice gave me a message that the file was corrupt. I
selected the try to fix option, but they couldn't repair it. I had another
option to save the file in the .odt extension, but that didn't work either,
so it must be the file itself that is the problem. I'll contact the creator
of the file.

It was worth it to understand yet a little more about LibreOffice!

Sorry. I meant 6.0.6. With Win 7 Pro, although I have a new computer on the
way with Win 10 (probaby Home verson). This was the first time I wanted to
use anything but LibreWriter, so when I couldn't find "Calc"

be there.
I didn't see anything about having to download them separately.

has that option, but it didn't work.

I just did what you suggested. It thought it was pinned to the task bar, so
I clicked "unpin" and then pin so it's there now.
Thank you!

Re: [libreoffice-users] Strange Macro folder behavior

2018-07-23 Thread Peggy
More on Macros. My shortcuts are still there. One still worked. Maybe I
found it under the list under tables and just assigned a shortcut. It was
"select table."
One had some technical terms I didn't understand and when I used the
shortcut to convert the table to text (which I remember recording) I got an
error message that I'll attach.
Hoping attachments are OK?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Strange Macro folder behavior

2018-07-23 Thread Peggy
I checked and got the message about Java when I chose "organize macros >
LibreOffice Basic. (Writer isn't there.) I said "No" and now I see my
Macros without getting the message.

Anyhow my macros are gone again.

I made a library called "My Macros" Maybe if I store them under the
Standard Library, they won't disappear. I assigned each one to a shortcut
so I shouldn't need to go into the library, should I?

I still can't figure out why, when I save a document and then look under
"Run Macros," I find a new library with the title I just saved. Tried it
just now and titled it Test.
Sure enough, there it is! I looked under another document I had opened and
found a library for both that one and "Test." Then I opened one from the
Run option in the Win 7 start menu and checked and there is a Library named
"untitled 2" even before I saved it.

Is this usual behavior? I know so little and have always used Writer to
create simple text documents or tables. This is the first time I tried
creating macros.

Also, for some reason, I can't get LibreOffice Writer to put an icon on the
taskbar. I have to start a new doc from Windows 7 start menu "Run
LibreOffice Writer."

Do you think I should uninstall and reinstall?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Underlined unformatted text

2018-07-23 Thread Peggy
You are right. It doesn't. I usually open a page that I had formatted the
way I like. It had some text when I saved it as a template.
I just delete the text and use the page which is saved as untitled.

I'm having some problems with writer. My taskbar link won't work anymore.
So I'll have to find the executable file and save another link to the
taskbar.
Also I'm having some crashing problems. Seems like it's happening since the
most recent update.

Thank you for the reply and the fix!

[libreoffice-users] Pasted Text inside a "box"

2018-07-18 Thread Peggy
It happens quite often when I paste something I want to save. The box can
be holding a lot of text and you have to stay in it to add your own text.
It's not a table because a right click doesn't bring up table options. I
tried paragraph formate from the right cliick and checked no borders. No
luck.

Thanks so much to anyone who can tell me how I can fix this. It's
irritating.

[libreoffice-users] Frustrated with stupid behavior while trying to do a project.

2018-06-04 Thread Peggy
I am using a table to list all of our scattered names, phone numbers, etc
to keep them together in alphabetical order. It means I guess where the
names go and cut and paste to put entries in the correct places. All has
been fine, until now.

Now suddenly, I can't cut and paste one of the cells. It cuts, but won't
paste where I want it to go.. I tried to just write the information into
the cell and get this message: "Read only content; Write protected content
cannot be changed. No modifications will not be accepted"

It's my document for heaven's sake. I didn't write protect it. I've tried
to find a place under the table menu where something got changed and can't.
If I have to I'll try save it under another name and then see if the
problem sticks, but I shouldn't have to.

Can anyone tell me how this glitch happened and if there's anything I can
do to change it?

I've been working all day and hoped to finish tonight. What's wrong with
this program! I would be so grateful for an answer!

Last night I used the keyboard shortcut I made to insert the date.
Unfortunately there was no choice that I could see to insert date (fixed).
This morning the date has changed to today's date. So I think I probably

I looked under Macros and have to enable JRE, which I think puts my

be to run a Macro already created, but I didn't see an option to record the
steps for a Macro. I don't suppose there is a work-around?

[libreoffice-users] Insert current date

2018-05-21 Thread Peggy
Years ago in Word Perfect there was a feature that allowed me to use a
shortcut key (even picking from a menu would be good) that inserted today's
date. Does Libre Writer have this feature?

I've never written a macro and the couple of instructions I've seen look
complicated. If there is no feature for this, would their be a way to write
a macro for the tecnically challenged?

[libreoffice-users] Delete Footnotes?

2018-05-16 Thread Peggy
I am just learning to use Writer and started a document. I added footnotes
and then changed things around and the footnotes need to be deleted so I
can start over. But I can't find any way to delete them. They won't
highlight. What am I missing?

Thanks for any help!
