Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Spell Check Dictionary

2014-05-26 Thread Thomas Wicker
So, using adjectives = "disguis[ing] the fact"? Interesting. Evidently,
German is the only non-disguised language (and "chile relleno con carne
asada" should really be "chilerellenoconcarneasada," and it's English
translation shouldn't be "stufffed peppers with grilled beef*" but
"stuffedpepperswithgrilledbeef;" yeah, good luck with that).

*Yes, I know that "carne" is technically "meat," not "beef;" lo se.
However, it's almost exclusively used for "beef," since other meats would
be specified (e.g., pollo asado), so I went with "beef" as a more accurate
translation in this case.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Problem with ibiblio mirror

2012-03-26 Thread Thomas Wicker
Hey, Alex, Tom,

Thanks for the replies!

Alex, I think you've got the right answer. As it happens, ibiblio was the
default download method chosen when I clicked, "Download," from the main
download page, likely having to do with it being *maybe* 10 km from where I'm
sitting (Durham, N.C., USA). Clarkson, in the same time zone but up in Potsdam,
N.Y., USA, is orders of magnitude (literally) farther away.

Maybe ibiblio just has more traffic and, thus, is slower? Not sure, nor am I
sure if there's any way to change the algorithm for the default download
location that gets fed to the Download link. Figured I'd let folks know, and
then decisions can be made on whether to address it. I just imagine that
more-naïve users might get discouraged from using LibreOffice if they don't
know to look for other mirrors under the, "Info," link that's part of the
Download button.

Thanks again, and have a great week!

Yrs,
Thomas

[libreoffice-users] Problem with ibiblio mirror

2012-03-25 Thread Thomas Wicker
Hi,

Tried downloading 3.5.1 for Mac OS X (Intel) from ibiblio tonight (
http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/tdf/libreoffice/stable/3.5.1/mac/x86/LibO_3.5.1_MacOS_x86_install_en-US.dmg).
Slow as molasses in January; was crawling along, telling me it would take 4
hours to finish. Then tried the clarkson.edu mirror; finished in 5 minutes.

Not sure what's up with the ibiblio.org mirror, but I'd hold off
recommending it as a download site until ibiblio fixes whatever the issue
is.

Thanks for all your work!

yrs,
Thomas
