Sorry, but I think you are not following the instructions Heinrich
mentioned (they were the instructions I provided to help him work around
his same issue). Tested with:

LO 3.5.0rc3 (final - direct from LO) and LO 3.4.4 as direct from LO, and
LO 3.4.4 as supplied by LM from the Ubuntu repositories:

LM12 - MATE
LM12 - KDE
LM12 - GNOME (GNOME 3)

In each of those tests, once the printer is set to PostScript Level 2
(via spadmin), the printer setting remains the same.

I suspect that you are not opening spadmin and performing the setting
there. Can you please advise/verify:

1. Where & how you installed LO 3.5.0? Is it from LO directly (ala
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/) or from some PPA?

2. If you actually used spadmin to set the printer device to PostScript
Level 2? If so, can you provide details of the steps that you took to
make the change?

Keep in mind that if you have multiple versions of LO installed (distro
& opt versions) that you will need to make the setting in each spadmin).
You can check for each using 'locate spadmin'. Example:
$ locate spadmin
/opt/libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/program/spadmin.bin
/opt/libreoffice3.4/program/spadmin
/opt/libreoffice3.5/program/spadmin
/opt/libreoffice3.5/program/spadmin.bin
/usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.4/program/spadmin.bin
/usr/lib/libreoffice/program/spadmin
Ignore the spadmin.bin files & run only the shell spadmin:
$ /opt/libreoffice3.4/program/spadmin
$ /opt/libreoffice3.5/program/spadmin
$ /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/spadmin

Thanks for your hint, Maurice.
What you suggest is exactly what I have been doing. Except - I don't want to
have to do it EVERY TIME I print something (which is quite often!). I would
like a way to set the default to PostScript...

I had a similar prblem with .xls files on LO 3.4.5, and someone gave
the following sequence (which worked) to achieve the change:

  "Open spadmin* (printer administration) & select the printer
'Properties|Device|Printer Language type: PostScript Level 2. Close
spadmin & open LO (3.3.x or 3.4.x) and you should be ok for that
printer. You can check by closing & reopening LO & 'File|Printer
Settings||Properties|Device|'.
- In LibreOffice 3.3.4 you should see 'from device driver'.
- In LibreOffice 3.5.0rc2 you should see 'PostScript Level 2'."

   * /opt/libreoffice3.4/program/spadmin   (in my case)
