Not quite. LibreOffice is going in the direction of being completely
independent of OpenOffice, while MariaDb remains parasitic on MySQL, as
shown by the recent incorporation of MySQL 5.5 into MariaDb. Also, MariaDb
is available on a much more limited spectrum of target servers (e.g., no
OS-X binaries).

Really?
Maria is a fork of MySQL, and I thought the 5.5-alike was their first real
release, and they've had a second since then. No?

Hi :)
It seems that MariaDb are carefully remaining a drop-in replacement for MySql.
Obviously there are some heated feelings in the 2 communities.

Obviously because of Jomali's message, or is there something else you're

Hi :)
I guess i just can't imagine a split being completely amicable. Even within a
community things are seldom completely amicable. When a murder happens who do
the police question after family, loved ones and close friends?

The MariaDB project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of
MariaDB 5.5.21 beta. MariaDB 5.5.21 is the first beta release in the
5.5 series. We hope to follow it up soon with a 5.5 release candidate.
Please test this release thoroughly!

MariaDB 5.5.21 beta is a merge of MariaDB 5.3 and MySQL 5.5 with some
limited additional bug fixes. This is the second 5.5-based release, and
we have some extra notable features including an improved thread pool,
an updated SphinxSE storage engine for fulltext search, and the ability
to selectively skip replication of binlog events. Extra features planned
for MariaDB 5.5 will be pushed into subsequent releases.

**Do not use beta releases on production systems.**

== User Feedback plugin ===

MariaDB includes a User Feedback plugin. This plugin is disabled by
default. If enabled, it submits basic, completely anonymous MariaDB
usage information. This information is used by the developers to track
trends in MariaDB usage to better guide development efforts.

If you would like to help make MariaDB better, please add
--plugin-load=feedback.so to your my.cnf file! On Windows, add
feedback=ON to your my.ini file, or click the checkbox during the
installation of the MSI package.

See http://kb.askmonty.org/en/user-feedback-plugin for more information.
