Re: [libreoffice-users] installing issues fedora 14
It might be a good idea to upgrade to Fedora 15. The Live Upgrade does it on the fly, and worked perfectly for me at least. I think you'll find that LibreOffice isn't in the Fedora14 repositories, which will be where your package maanger is looking, but it is in the F15 ones. I'm relatively new to Linux too and tried to install LO by downloading the file from the LO website and installing that, I have some problems now because of it (perhaps), so I'd recommend the F15 - LO route. Hi :) +1 I lose track of which is the latest version of most distros. I think Fedora is quite a tough one for a first time into the world of GnuLinux but it is definitely worth spending time getting to know well. I'm not sure what i would recommend right now tbh. Ubuntu gets articles out there into the mainstream press but i am wary about the all-new interfaces, Gnome3 and Unity. So, perhaps Mint, Mageia (15th in the DW charts already and still rising fast) or yes, Fedora lol. http://distrowatch.com/ Pardus has excellent reports but it's fairly specific to Turkish. It was about the first to use LibreOffice by default (along with Mageia). Mepis and others are well worth a try as LiveCds or on a new separate partition just to test them out while you stick with your main one on your main partition(s). Re: [libreoffice-users] installing issues fedora 14
Using Fedora 15 here and loving it. I find only OpenOffice in F14 repositories but LibreOffice from the website should work provided there are no conflicting packages. I'm using version 3.3.3 without problems so I'd suggest you migrate. Gnome3 isn't as bad as people say. After using it for nearly a year (started with the alpha version), I only miss the wobbly effects of compiz in Gnome2... Which is nothing really. I'll move to 3.4.x when it appears in the repos and I hope by then all complaints about it would have been addressed. I see it in F16 repos but that's the future fedora. ;) - from twohot@device.mobile :) -Original Message- From: Tom Davies tomdavie...@yahoo.co.uk Date: Sun, 14 Aug 2011 18:59:50 To: users@global.libreoffice.org Reply-To: users@global.libreoffice.org Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] installing issues fedora 14 Hi :) +1 I lose track of which is the latest version of most distros. [libreoffice-users] installing issues fedora 14
Libre is not signed and won't complete installation. Theres nothing in the readme files about that issue. I've read about --gpgcheck on the internet but there isn't enough information pertaining to my situation. I'm not sure how to run --gpgcheck from the terminal with the sudo -c 'yum install *.rpm' line...? I'm a complete newbie to linux and terminal commands etc. I checked my etc.yum.repos.d folder and theres not a file to edit that says libre so I'm not sure which file to edit gpgcheck so I can get libre installed.. -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
Re: [libreoffice-users] installing issues fedora 14
Hi :) the official download place is here http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ I am not certain about the unsigned issue. There is a guide on how to install LibreOffice in Linux http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_LibreOffice_on_Linux Normally in linux when you want to install something you open the package manager, probably in the system or utilities sub-menu from where the Start button would be in Windows, or at the top of the screen vertically above it. The package manager should have a search tool to help you find programs. It searches in descriptions as well as titles so you don't need to know the proper names of things. It's usually best to search in there first when you want to look for packages, codecs, libraries, additional functionality, even entire programs. Your package manager usually finds the best version and looks in repositories which are like warehouses of software that has been tweaked to work better with Fedora. It sorts out installing and updating everything for you.
