I don't know if it's related, but there was previously an issue where
pasting content including images from a web page sometimes froze
LibreOffice while it downloaded the images. If the images were large, or
you're on a slow connection, it could take a while and appear completely
unresponsive. That was discussed on bug 60415
 https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60415, and seemed
to be fixed in 4.3.0.4. Always possible that it's regressed though.
It was all text but when copying from teh webpage it may have included some
thing i didn;t see. But the latest times were from Writer to Writer with no
images

If the pasted images are linked to the original content (so that they
automatically update), it might also connect back to the original web
site when copying that content from one document to another. Perhaps
check Edit Links on the source document and try breaking any links
listed there before copying (unless, of course, you want the images to
remain linked so that they automatically update in your document when
 they change online).

If this is the problem, and you want to avoid the delays when pasting
content from a web page, you can use Edit Paste Special Unformatted
Text to get the text, then individually copy any images you want and use
Edit Paste Special Bitmap (or anything other than one of the HTML or
Unformatted Text options). The text and images won't be formatted as
they were on the original web page, but that's not always a bad thing as
you'll be starting from a relatively clean state to format as you like.

I'll give that a try if it happens again

Thanks
  Cheers

I think i'll just have to keep my eye on it and see if it happens again

I cannot search for 07 etc as it will not find it, it will only search for

How can i force the search to look for 07?

[libreoffice-users] Writer autosave

2015-10-04 Thread ianseeks
Hi

How is the autosave supposed to work? I've got my set to save every 4 minutes
so i rarely press "Save". I just had a situation where i have made some
changes, left the machine for an hour or so without saving or closing, cam
back to the machine and closed Writer. It didn't ask me to save but it
crashed as it closed. I reloaded it and selected the file that was open to be
recovered. It recovered the file but an older version of it, should it not
have recovered the contents that were on the screen that should have been
autosaved every 4 minutes during that hour the document was still open?

And.. why does the copy and paste work where you use teh mouse to highlight
and paste it? It works with ctrl-c, ctrl-v ok.

Thanks Virgil, more information is always a big help. My biggest bit of me
being clueless was the not knowing that direct formatting was overriding the
style because if I highlighted a paragraph and it had the same style/font/size

I think this is where i went wrong. Is there an obvious indicator that shows
its direct formatting as opposed to a style? It would be handy when picking up
someone else's document (which is what happened here)

Yes, I'm going to do that now i know it exists.

[libreoffice-users] Style updates in Writer

2018-01-31 Thread Ianseeks
Hi

If i update a style that is used in a document e.g. change font and font size,
should the whole document where that style is used be changed to the new
settings when is pressed? Currently I have to highlight the areas and
then reapply the style to it.

THanks Steve, I'll try that. I didn't get the difference between styles and
direct formatting but now i do.

thanks. Its a document created on windows 10, so i'll bring it over to my
system and see if its the same on linux. Is there a usual site used by
libreoffice devs to get hold samples that i can upload to?

I 've just done a few more tests after reading your comments. All the tests
i've done are using the "Default Style".
I went back to the Windows 10 version and I changed the font to something
radically different to what i really wanted and it did change a lot of the
document with that style but not all of it. I think i missed it before because
the paragraph that i had on the screen didn;t change but when i changed it to a
weird font it scrolled the text up the screen a few lines so i could the text
below it and see a change. So i changed the font back to something sensible and
it worked but it did not change the font size at all, it was stuck at 14pt even
though i changed it to 12pt.
I've discovered that if i change the font/size in "default style", it affects
other parts of the document that has "text body" style applied.
Its the same on version 6 on linux.

I had a similar problem with this until the KDE side of LO was installed - not
sure exactly what the KDE library is but i guess for better integration with
the KE desktop which i use but when it was pure GTK i could only partially
minimise the width plus a few other issues with cut and paste into documents.

[libreoffice-users] Occasional Issue with Writer and Calc (Version: 6.2.2.2)

2019-04-05 Thread Ianseeks
Hi

This is just a note because I can't recreate the problem at will or identify
the circumstances when it happens.
There are times when editing a document or worksheet, i loose access to the
document or worksheet workspace but i can still access the menu bars etc. I
have to close the document and reopen it to be able to continue typing.

[libreoffice-users] Fonts and icons blurred

2019-05-22 Thread Ianseeks
Hi,

I've got a problem with the fonts and icons displaying as blurred, it also
affects the texts in a document or worksheet.
I'm using a couple of user logins on my system and I only have this problem on
one of them. I've tried my best to make sure all have exactly the same
configuration but I cannot get his one to work well. In
Options/Libreoffice/View, "GL" is disabled and everything else is Automatic,
Screen font anti-aliasing set to work from 8 pixels, Use hardware
acceleration/Anti-alaising are set on (i have tried off as well)

Any ideas of where else i can look? It doesn't affect any other program except
the Libreoffice ones.

Thanks Robert.
That allowed me to insert a page break but the new page had a background colour
the same as the TOC and changing the style from "Contents Heading" to Default
Style" wouldn't remove it.
So it looks like the only work around is to delete the TOC to insert a page.

How do you change it if its protected other than update it? I couldn't find how
to "unprotect it"

Thats didn't work due to above i guess.
The only work-around i found was to delete the TOC and then insert a page then
re-create the TOC.
I would have thought that LO should be able to insert a page (or page break
etc) above a TOC without breaking the integrity of the TOC (but you'll have to
remember to manually update it as usual with the new page numbers afterwards)

[libreoffice-users] docx file formatting question. Using LO 7.0.5.2

2021-05-03 Thread Ianseeks
HI

I downloaded a docx file (no idea what release) for my partner onto a Windows
10 laptop and printed it out successfully where some pages were landscape
format in the middle of the document. I saved it its own format as i thought
she'd be sending to one of her mates who uses Word. She then started editing it
and when she got to the landscape pages, the landscape format had reverted to
portrait and the table on the tried used the landscape dimensions and it
squashed the right hand columns, i assume this happened when i saved it.

Question is: Can i make LO use landscape on various pages i choose and correct
the problem. I did try but it landscaped every page.

Great, thanks John.
I thought it was one of the those odd issues that hadn't been catered for in LO
keeping the DOCX format correctly and i was thinking it needed a bug report as
well.
