2013-02-14 Thread Aldo Zavala
Its fine, my system is working like a charm now and you are right about the
UTF-8 to UTF-8 errors, I can ignore them for now...

Sorry for my late response, I had two surgeries recently.

Sorry Aldo, no clue with that, what is the output of the service when you make
a manual request?

Anyway, I think you can safely ignore that error.

Sadly I don't have an explanation for the error you are seeing, can
you paste a typical output from your service? Is it possible for your
service to not output any answer and see if that fixes your problem?

Subject: Re: smsbox: Failed to convert msgdata from charset UTF-8 to UTF-8

Hi Aldo, as you can see from the docs:

This service grabs any SMS with two words and 'www' as the first
word, and then does an HTTP request to an URL which is taken from
the rest of the message. Any result is sent back to the phone
(or requester), but is truncated to the 160 characters that will
fit into an SMS message, naturally.

So, the problem you're facing is that kannel is trying to parse your
service answer as an SMS, and assuming it's an html, then kannel can't
convert this answer to an SMS hence the error SMS you're receiving.

To avoid this problem your service must not output any answer, then add
this variables to the sms-service group:

max-messages = 0

omit-empty = true

Hope this helps!

Subject: smsbox: Failed to convert msgdata from charset UTF-8 to UTF-8

Hi, I am constantly getting this message: Failed to convert msgdata from
charset UTF-8 to UTF-8 from the smsbox.log, it happens after execute a sms
service, the process flow works as bearerbox executes the remote server script,
the remote server process the information and request a sms submission back to
bearerbox and then smsbox generated these log files and it sends the service
SMS plus an annoying message that syas: Result ciykt bit ve reoresebted as ab
SNS message every time. Could this be a bug?

opensmppbox: Bind Transmitter Bind Receiver

2012-12-17 Thread Aldo Zavala
Hi, is there a way to setup in opensmppbox if the created binds would be Bind
Transmitter or Bind Receiver, or both?

I think they are set to both by default, but is there a way to set it to be
only Transmitter or only Receiver?

Thanks!

Result could not be represented as an SMS message.

2012-12-08 Thread Aldo Zavala
Hi, since upgrade bearerbox and opensmppbox to latest svn versions I am getting
this message after process the SMS Services: Result could not be represented
as an SMS message., I was able to duplicate this only happens when bearerbox
initiates the http request, when I initiate the http request from a web-browser
this error won't happen, so I added these three lines to my config:

http-request-retry = 2
http-queue-delay = 10
http-timeout = 240

making this my new config:
---
group = smsbox
smsbox-id = smsbox
bearerbox-host = localhost
bearerbox-port = 13005
sendsms-port = 13131
sendsms-chars = 0123456789 +-
access-log = /var/log/kannel/kannel.access
log-file = /var/log/kannel/smsbox.log
log-level = 1
http-request-retry = 2
http-queue-delay = 10
http-timeout = 240

And still getting the message after each service I process... I think this is
caused because bearerbox thinks the http service request is not working but it
is... am I missing a new setting to avoid this to happen?

These are my versions:
-
'addons/opensmppbox' External at revision 66.
'addons/sqlbox' External at revision 49.
'Gateway' At revision 5011.

Thanks in advance.

smppbox - set system_type = null

2012-12-07 Thread Aldo Zavala
Hi, one of our SMPP clients are using the opensmpp-1.0.jar class to connect to
our SMPPBOX server, and they claim their library has a bug that causes them to
send system_type=null no matter what they set it up.

My question is, is there a way to setup my smppbox conf file or my clients conf
file to accept a connection without system_type or with system_type = null ?

this is how I am doing my smpp clients config file:
user password SMPP 10.10.10.10
As you can see I am waiting for the system_type = SMPP; I tested putting a *
wildcard on that field, also leaving it blank and it didn't work. At the end of
the post I will put the debug output of the failed connection to SMPPBOX.

These are my smppbox and bearer box version output:

Hi,

This is related with smsc retouting. If you have this enabled then DLRs are
rerouted as well. Bad warning, you can safely ignore.

Thanks a lot for ths clarification I have started to get a little bit
confused... =)

Yes, I have access to DB and to Application side. I will design and implement a
script that first gather the desired SMS Users group and then submits SMS's to
that list using the Kannel HTTP Interface in chunks of 25-30 TPS... Thanks a
lot for the explanations guys!!

One last thing, is there a given kannel HTTP built in method to send to
multiple numbers? Or should I invoke the method one by one?

As far as I understand, Aldo wants to implement Bulk SMS application
using Kannel, It has not to do with Cell Broadcast. So SS7 and other
Core Network related protocols are irelevant.
The script can be created in your application side, retrieving
subscriber list from DB, then calling HTTP interface that Kannel
 provides.

About TPS limitation, you can control it in your script.

 Hi,

You have an error in your configuration. If the second sms-service is
 supposed to be default, use:

 keyword = default

 not

 keyword =

It allows multiple defaults. It will use the first matching one.

Hi, is there possible to set more than one default SMS-service? Like a way
that make kannel to differentiate by short code number, or something

As I understand a default SMS-Service is one that you don't need to specify
the service name at the body of the SMS, such as TO: 454545 TEXT:72501 ,
and a not a default so your sms-service will process the second word as
keyword as TO: 454545 TEXT:Weather 72501. A default one would be like you

only enter the keyword and SMS-Service will process the first word.

Example of one of my SMS-Services:

 group = sms-service
 keyword = Horoscope
 catch-all = true
 accepted-smsc = huawei

If you are going to change this frequently, It would be better if you
do send all MO to an specific script and have that script do whatever
you want to. This way you don't need to restart kannel each time you
make a modification or add a new keyword.

  Hi,

You have an error in your configuration. If the second sms-service is
  supposed to be default, use:

  keyword = default

  not

  keyword =

It allows multiple defaults. It will use the first matching one.

Hi, is there possible to set more than one default SMS-service? Like a
 way
that make kannel to differentiate by short code number, or something

As I understand a default SMS-Service is one that you don't need to
 specify
the service name at the body of the SMS, such as TO: 454545 TEXT:72501
 ,
and a not a default so your sms-service will process the second word as
keyword as TO: 454545 TEXT:Weather 72501. A default one would be like
  you

only enter the keyword and SMS-Service will process the first word.

Example of one of my SMS-Services:

  group = sms-service
  keyword = Horoscope
  catch-all = true
  accepted-smsc = huawei
  get-url =

 http://192.168.8.188/services/horoscope/mobile_horoscope.php?sign=%ssendto=%p;

Sorry, you will have to go with gdb. Rebuild everything with debug flags:
 CFLAGS = -g -Wall
 and run through gdb.

I would suggest use Citrix Xen Server along with Citrix Xen Center instead
of vmware. (Its free.) Yes it is good idea to use virutalization. Your
existing hardware is good enough to handle your suggested traffic.

I am using lower that that.

Hi, I am planning to deploy Kannel in a live environment with a starting
 small traffic, like 1-2 request/sec.
My settings only have 10-15 sms-services, have connected a maximum of 5
SMC's, stores all delivery reports and sent sms's in MySQL database. Daemons
running are: Bearerbox, smsbox, sqlbox, and smppbox. No WAP Push or OTA
 services are present.

I only have one available server system for two purposes: Kannel Server and
rsync Push File Server. (Note: The rsync push server it's a CDR -Call Detail
Record- Server that pushes CDR files to remote entities.)

 Dell PowerEdge 2970

  - 3x 500GB 7.2K RPM SATA 2.5-in Hard Disk
  - PERC 6/i, x8 (RAID-5)
  - Redundant Power Supply

My boss asked me to try to deploy Kannel in the same CDR Server, so I am

RE: can sqlbox record all MT and MO ?

2010-07-12 Thread Aldo Zavala
Sorry, I forgot to copy this question to users list =) ...

I have the same configuration than that. And sqlbox only stores in sent_sms
table the messages that I sent using SQL query like this:

INSERT INTO send_sms (momt, sender, receiver, msgdata, sms_type)
VALUES ('MT', '1234', '5017785477', 'Hello world', 2);

And it doesn't record any messages if I send a message like this (please
correct my flow if its wrong, I may have a incorrect logic understand of Kannel
yet):

[SMPP Client]--[Bearerbox]--[smppbox]--[Bearerbox]--[smsc]--[handset]

-Do I have to configure something in bearerbox.conf in order to do this or only
in sqlbox.conf ?

Thanks,

RE: can sqlbox record all MT and MO ?

 See:
 http://www.blogalex.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/userguide.html#AEN211.

 It lists the following configuration:

 group = sqlbox
 id = sqlbox-db
 smsbox-id = sqlbox
 #global-sender =
 bearerbox-host = localhost
 bearerbox-port = 13001
 smsbox-port = 13005
 smsbox-port-ssl = false
 sql-log-table = sent_sms
 sql-insert-table = send_sms
 log-file = /var/log/kannel/kannel-sqlbox.log
 log-level = 0

Now what you need to do is configure smsbox to connect to port 13005 of
 localhost.
After that, sqlbox should log traffic going from and to your smsbox.

RE: can sqlbox record all MT and MO ?

2010-07-12 Thread Aldo Zavala
Thank you!! That worked!! Now sql and smpp messages are stored in database.

Question: Is it possible to store in database the messages send by Push method?
Like those using this:
http://127.0.0.1:13131/cgi-bin/sendsms?username=testpassword=testfrom=to=5018785411text=Test+SMS

In smppbox.conf you should set the bearerbox-port to 13005.

Subject: RE: can sqlbox record all MT and MO ?

Sorry, I forgot to copy this question to users list =) ...

I have the same configuration than that. And sqlbox only stores in sent_sms
table the messages that I sent using SQL query like this:

INSERT INTO send_sms (momt, sender, receiver, msgdata, sms_type)
 VALUES ('MT', '1234', '5017785477', 'Hello world', 2);

And it doesn't record any messages if I send a message like this (please
correct my flow if its wrong, I may have a incorrect logic understand of
 Kannel yet):

 [SMPP Client]--[Bearerbox]--[smppbox]--[Bearerbox]--[smsc]--[handset]

-Do I have to configure something in bearerbox.conf in order to do this or
 only in sqlbox.conf ?

 Thanks,

RE: can sqlbox record all MT and MO ?

  See:
  http://www.blogalex.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/userguide.html#AEN211.

  It lists the following configuration:

  group = sqlbox
  id = sqlbox-db
  smsbox-id = sqlbox
  #global-sender =
  bearerbox-host = localhost
  bearerbox-port = 13001
  smsbox-port = 13005
  smsbox-port-ssl = false
  sql-log-table = sent_sms
  sql-insert-table = send_sms
  log-file = /var/log/kannel/kannel-sqlbox.log
  log-level = 0

Now what you need to do is configure smsbox to connect to port 13005 of
  localhost.
After that, sqlbox should log traffic going from and to your smsbox.

start-stop-daemon and smpp routing questions

 Hi,

If you installed the gateway, all libs should be in your path. Else if you
 just compile use:

 configure --with-kannel-dir=/root/kannel/gateway/trunk/

Kannel and CDMA 1x

2010-07-05 Thread Aldo Zavala
Hi, I was jut reading old posts in this mail list and I found a phrase by Nikos
saying ... Kannel works only with GSM networks, though, not CDMA. For details
read the
online User's Guide.

This really surprises me...!

I am committed to deploy a SMPP router, so two of our company SMC's will
communicate with a third party SMC that offer a 2-WAY SMS service. I just
compiled Gateway and smppbox, and start reading the user's guide and sample
configurations... as our network is a CDMA does this means that I am in the
wrong place? Isn't there a workaround that makes smppbox to work with CDMA
Based SMC's?

Thanks,

Aldo Zavala

Re: Kannel and CDMA 1x

2010-07-05 Thread Aldo Zavala
Thanks for the answer!, though I will connect to SMC Centers not modems, does
this still works in such case?
- Any special configuration options to make it work in CDMA?

Thanks!

Should work nicely out of the box (has for some years now). The Kannel dev

 Hi Aldo,

That looks like a MT (submit_sm) .. trying sending a message from the

 hopefully generate a deliver_sm and not a data_sm.

Thanks for the reply, I currently have the trunk versions in three directories
as:

/root/kannel/gateway/trunk/
/root/kannel/smppbox/trunk/
/root/kannel/sqlbox/trunk/

How smppbox will know where are the compiled Gateway libraries? Or should I put
all distributions in the same directory? Sorry I am still confused about it

Subject: Recommended Operative System for Kannel

Hi, in the past I have troubles trying to install Kannel in FreeBSD 7.0, so
before give it another try I would like to ask for some suggestion what
would be the best Operative System (or Linux Distro) for hosting Kannel? In
terms of clean compile, no general dependency issues, autostart...

I know how dumb can this sound, but I don;t have much time for troubleshoot
an installation, will prefer to use that time for configuring Kannel.

 Thanks a lot!

 Aldo

SMPP router question....

2010-06-15 Thread Aldo Zavala
Hi, I have one question about Kannel:

Can I setup a SMPP Router using Kannel?

   / SMC 1
  /
 /
 SMPP - SMPP Gaateway
Message \
  \
   \ SMC 2

I have two SMC's in different locations, and one Content Delivery Agent sends
me SMPP Messages but it can't route between destinations SMC-1 and SMC-2,
that's why I need to setup a SMPP Gateway that can listen for SMPP messages
and based on MDN; forward those SMPP messages to proper SMC-1 or SMC-2.

Is this possible with Kannel? If not, I will appreciate if can please point me
to the right direction on this matter.

Thanks!!

Hi, thanks for looking at my post, can please point me to the right place to
read and to get involved into the recent smppbox addition? I am not a Kannel
user so I am not experienced with its modules and additions, I posted in this
list to look for a solution for my smpp needs

Thanks,

Re: how autostart kannel in Solaris 8 ?

2008-12-20 Thread Aldo Zavala
One question, as I told you I have installed the
gateway-1.4.1-sol8-sparc-local.gz on one of our Sun Servers, how can you tell
that version is 4 years old, it seems like is the very same version available
for download at: http://www.kannel.org/download.shtml, look, it says textually:
Current status: The Kannel Group has made a new stable release 1.4.1
available. This stable release should be usable for production systems.
Does that means that the latest stable release of kannel is 4 years old???

By the way, what is the newest cvs version?

That's a 4year old release. You better get and compile the latest cvs. I
imagine you got that from sunfreeware. Basically when you get these ready
packages, you are stuck with what they give you.

Well not necessarily. It is pretty easy to make startup scripts by yourself.

Put them in /etc/init.d and link them from /etc/rc3.d. They will be executed

 at boot.

Otherwise you can compile the latest CVS with
 configure --enable-start-stop-daemon

I think I see your problem. You seem to be missing libiconv. You need to get

it for kannel. I am surprised that configure didn't fail because of that.
Also it wouldn't heart to get pcre.

BTW, 1.4.1 is ~4 years old. Download the latest CVS from the site.

Start up Error: unknown login: kannel

2008-12-14 Thread Aldo Zavala
Hello to all, this is my first post here, I just installed the Kannel in one
FreeBSD box, I installed it from the ports set, I am using the default WAP conf
file, and when I try to run the /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kannel start it gives me
this error:
--
radius# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kannel start
Starting kannel_bearerbox.
su: unknown login: kannel
Starting kannel_smsbox.
su: unknown login: kannel
Starting kannel_wapbox.
su: unknown login: kannel
--

Does anybody knows what this means? Should I create manually the user:group for
kannel daemon?

One more thing, how should I invoke the daemon in /etc/rc.conf if I wish to run
the WAP feature of Kannel?

Thanks in advance, your help will be appreciated! =)

Aldo

I forgot to say that is a FreeBSD 7.0, and this is my current kannel.conf:

group = core
admin-port = 13000
wapbox-port = 13002
admin-password = bar
#status-password = foo
#admin-deny-ip =
#admin-allow-ip =
wdp-interface-name = *
log-file = /var/log/kannel-bearerbox.log
#log-level = 0
box-deny-ip = *.*.*.*
box-allow-ip = 127.0.0.1
access-log = /var/log/kannel-access.log
#store-file = /tmp/kannel.store
#ssl-server-cert-file = cert.pem
#ssl-server-key-file = key.pem
#ssl-certkey-file = mycertandprivkeyfile.pem

group = wapbox
bearerbox-host = 127.0.0.1
log-file = /var/log/kannel-wapbox.log
#log-level = 0
syslog-level = none
access-log = /var/log/kannel-wapaccess.log

Re: Start up Error: unknown login: kannel

2008-12-14 Thread Aldo Zavala
I added the line kannel_enable=YES to /etc/rc.conf in order to have the
Kannel to start automatically when the system boots.

The output of ls -ld /var/run/kannel is:
[output]
drwxr-xr-x 2 kannel wheel 512 Dec 14 21:10 /var/run/kannel
[/output]

And this is what top command shows:

So you say that now you can log into radius as kannel without any passwords?

 Doesn't sound very safe.

You shouldn't create the pid-files. What is the output from ls -ld
 /var/run/kannel/ ?

Hello, now I have another error; I used the adduser command to add the
kannel user (I dont know if there are another way to create a daemon user)
This is what I did (according to an advice in the freebsd forums)

 radius# adduser
 Username: kannel
 Full name:
 Uid (Leave empty for default):
 Login group [kannel]:
Login group is kannel. Invite kannel into other groups? []:
 Login class [default]:
Shell (sh csh tcsh nologin) [sh]:
 Home directory [/home/kannel]:
 Use password-based authentication? [yes]: no
Lock out the account after creation? [no]:
 Username : kannel
 Password : disabled
 Full Name :
 Uid: 1004
 Class :
 Groups : kannel
 Home : /home/kannel
 Shell : /bin/sh
 Locked : no
 OK? (yes/no): yes
adduser: INFO: Successfully added (kannel) to the user database.
 Add another user? (yes/no): no
 Goodbye!

 * And this is the error that now I am getting:

 radius# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kannel start
 Starting kannel_bearerbox.
 /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_bearerbox.pid:
 No such file or directory
 Starting kannel_smsbox.
 /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_smsbox.pid: No
 such file or directory
 Starting kannel_wapbox.
 /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_wapbox.pid: No
 such file or directory
 radius#

 * Then I created manually the pid files, and after trying to start the
kannel daemon again I got these errors:

 radius# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kannel start
 Starting kannel_bearerbox.
 /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_bearerbox.pid:
 Permission denied
 Starting kannel_smsbox.
 /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_smsbox.pid:
 Permission denied
 Starting kannel_wapbox.
 /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_wapbox.pid:
 Permission denied

 * I chowned the pid files to kannel user and finally the kannel services
 were started:
 radius# chown kannel *.*
 radius# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kannel start
 Starting kannel_bearerbox.
 Starting kannel_smsbox.
 Starting kannel_wapbox.

 * Do you think this is normal? Will this kannel installation setup will
behave as should after these sort of tweaks I made?

 Thanks in advance.

  Hi,

As you may have guessed it doesn't have much to do with configuration.
  Just
create the user. I don't know why the installation script didn't create
  it,
but then again I don't have BSD. I know Alej was looking at FreeBSD for
  sqlbox. Maybe he could
