Its fine, my system is working like a charm now and you are right about the UTF-8 to UTF-8 errors, I can ignore them for now... Sorry for my late response, I had two surgeries recently. Any result is sent back to the phone (or requester), but is truncated to the 160 characters that will fit into an SMS message, naturally. So, the problem you're facing is that kannel is trying to parse your service answer as an SMS, and assuming it's an html, then kannel can't convert this answer to an SMS hence the error SMS you're receiving. To avoid this problem your service must not output any answer, then add this variables to the sms-service group: max-messages = 0 omit-empty = true Hope this helps! opensmppbox: Bind Transmitter Bind Receiver
Hi, is there a way to setup in opensmppbox if the created binds would be Bind Transmitter or Bind Receiver, or both? I think they are set to both by default, but is there a way to set it to be only Transmitter or only Receiver? Thanks! Aldo Zavala
Result could not be represented as an SMS message.
Hi, since upgrade bearerbox and opensmppbox to latest svn versions I am getting this message after process the SMS Services: Result could not be represented as an SMS message., I was able to duplicate this only happens when bearerbox initiates the http request, when I initiate the http request from a web-browser this error won't happen, so I added these three lines to my config: http-request-retry = 2 http-queue-delay = 10 http-timeout = 240 making this my new config: --- group = smsbox smsbox-id = smsbox bearerbox-host = localhost bearerbox-port = 13005 sendsms-port = 13131 sendsms-chars = 0123456789 +- access-log = /var/log/kannel/kannel.access log-file = /var/log/kannel/smsbox.log log-level = 1 http-request-retry = 2 http-queue-delay = 10 http-timeout = 240 And still getting the message after each service I process... I think this is caused because bearerbox thinks the http service request is not working but it is... am I missing a new setting to avoid this to happen? These are my versions: - 'addons/opensmppbox' External at revision 66. 'addons/sqlbox' External at revision 49. 'Gateway' At revision 5011. Thanks in advance. Aldo Zavala
smppbox - set system_type = null
Hi, one of our SMPP clients are using the opensmpp-1.0.jar class to connect to our SMPPBOX server, and they claim their library has a bug that causes them to send system_type=null no matter what they set it up. My question is, is there a way to setup my smppbox conf file or my clients conf file to accept a connection without system_type or with system_type = null ? this is how I am doing my smpp clients config file: user password SMPP 10.10.10.10 As you can see I am waiting for the system_type = SMPP; I tested putting a * wildcard on that field, also leaving it blank and it didn't work. It is SMPP, I was thinking on pull a Subscribers list from our Provisioning Middleware, then create a script that submit like 25-30 SMS per second in order to not overkill the SMC. Re: Broadcast SMS with Kannel.... help please.
Thanks a lot for ths clarification I have started to get a little bit confused... =) Yes, I have access to DB and to Application side. I will design and implement a script that first gather the desired SMS Users group and then submits SMS's to that list using the Kannel HTTP Interface in chunks of 25-30 TPS... Thanks a lot for the explanations guys!! One last thing, is there a given kannel HTTP built in method to send to multiple numbers? Or should I invoke the method one by one? As far as I understand, Aldo wants to implement Bulk SMS application using Kannel, It has not to do with Cell Broadcast. So SS7 and other Core Network related protocols are irelevant. The script can be created in your application side, retrieving subscriber list from DB, then calling HTTP interface that Kannel provides. About TPS limitation, you can control it in your script. Thanks for the feedback, and what you think about having the LAMP server in the same server as Kannel? Is a good idea or would be best to run LAMP on another virtual server? For instance: - if destination MDN starting with 760* prefix will be routed to SMC-1 - if destination MDN starting with 970* prefix will be routed to SMC-2 Here my current configuration: /etc/kannel.conf group = core admin-port = 13000 admin-password = [protected] status-password = [protected] admin-deny-ip = admin-allow-ip = * smsbox-port = 13009 box-deny-ip = box-allow-ip = * dlr-storage = mysql smsbox-max-pending = 100 log-file = /var/log/kannel/bearerbox.log log-level = 1 group = mysql-connection id = mydlr host = localhost username = kannel password = [protected] database = kannel max-connections = 1 group = dlr-db id = mydlr table = dlr field-smsc = smsc field-timestamp = ts field-destination = destination field-source = source field-service = service field-url = url field-mask = mask field-status = status field-boxc-id = boxcid group = smsbox bearerbox-host = localhost sendsms-port = 13131 global-sender = 7601234567 sendsms-chars = 0123456789 +- access-log = /var/log/kannel/kannel.access log-file = /var/log/kannel/smsbox.log log-level = 1 group = smsc smsc = smpp smsc-id = huawei host = 111.111.111.111 port = 5019 smsc-username = aldo2 smsc-password = aldo2 system-id = aldo2 system-type = SMPP #system-type = VMA keepalive = 5 my-number = 7601234567 transceiver-mode = true reconnect-delay = 10 group = smsc smsc = smpp smsc-id = primal host = 222.222.222.222 port = 6900 smsc-username = aldo2 smsc-password = aldo2 system-id = aldo2 system-type = SMPP #system-type = VMA keepalive = 5 my-number = 9701234567 transceiver-mode = true reconnect-delay = 10 And: /etc/smppbox.conf -- group = core admin-port = 13000 admin-password = root status-password = [protected] admin-deny-ip = admin-allow-ip = * smsbox-port = 13009 box-deny-ip = box-allow-ip = * dlr-storage = mysql smsbox-max-pending = 100 log-file = /var/log/kannel/bearerbox.log log-level = 1 group = smppbox smppbox-id = SMPP Router smppbox-port = 9500 bearerbox-host = localhost bearerbox-port = 13009 log-level = 0 log-file = /var/log/kannel/smppbox.log our-system-id = aldo2 route-to-smsc = huawei smpp-logins = /etc/smppbox_clients group = mysql-connection id = mydlr host = localhost username = kannel password = [protected] database = kannel max-connections = 1 group = dlr-db id = mydlr table = dlr field-smsc = smsc field-timestamp = ts field-destination = destination field-source = source field-service = service field-url = url field-mask = mask field-status = status field-boxc-id = boxcid And finally: /etc/smppbox_clients --- aldo2 aldo2 SMPP Thanks, Aldo Zavala
Re: Kannel and CDMA 1x
It works for my two CDMA 1x SMC Center providers. Huawei SMC works like a charm and Primal SMC have a delay of 15-30 minutes I will work on that later. For now I have two more questions I just posted in the list. Thanks!!! Thanks, Aldo Zavala

Thanks again for the response, in addition: is there some recommended .configure options for Gateway or smppbox configuration for the ubuntu 10.04 server(i386) platform ? Kannel and CDMA 1x
Hi, I was jut reading old posts in this mail list and I found a phrase by Nikos saying ... Kannel works only with GSM networks, though, not CDMA. For details read the online User's Guide. This really surprises me...! I am committed to deploy a SMPP router, so two of our company SMC's will communicate with a third party SMC that offer a 2-WAY SMS service. I just compiled Gateway and smppbox, and start reading the user's guide and sample configurations... as our network is a CDMA does this means that I am in the wrong place? Isn't there a workaround that makes smppbox to work with CDMA Based SMC's? Thanks, Aldo Zavala

SMPP router question....
Hi, I have one question about Kannel: Can I setup a SMPP Router using Kannel? / SMC 1 / / SMPP - SMPP Gaateway Message \ \ \ SMC 2 I have two SMC's in different locations, and one Content Delivery Agent sends me SMPP Messages but it can't route between destinations SMC-1 and SMC-2, that's why I need to setup a SMPP Gateway that can listen for SMPP messages and based on MDN; forward those SMPP messages to proper SMC-1 or SMC-2. Is this possible with Kannel? If not, I will appreciate if can please point me to the right direction on this matter. Thanks!! Aldo Zavala

I am not a Kannel user so I am not experienced with its modules and additions, I posted in this list to look for a solution for my smpp needs Thanks, Aldo Zavala From: users-requ...@kannel.org Date: Tue, 15 Jun 2010 20:21:17 +0300 From: Nikos Balkanas nbalka...@gmail.com To: users@kannel.org, Aldo Zavala a...@cleartalk.net Subject: Re: SMPP router question Message-ID: e8baab43f5b040b9b6fa53be79d25...@drwho Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset=windows-1253; reply-type=original Hi, Have you checked the recent smppbox addition? Is this possible with Kannel? If not, I will appreciate if can please point me to the right direction on this matter. Thanks!! Aldo Zavala
Re: how autostart kannel in Solaris 8 ?
One question, as I told you I have installed the gateway-1.4.1-sol8-sparc-local.gz on one of our Sun Servers, how can you tell that version is 4 years old, it seems like is the very same version available for download at: http://www.kannel.org/download.shtml, look, it says textually: Current status: The Kannel Group has made a new stable release 1.4.1 available. This stable release should be usable for production systems. Does that means that the latest stable release of kannel is 4 years old??? By the way, what is the newest cvs version? Invite kannel into other groups? []: Login class [default]: Shell (sh csh tcsh nologin) [sh]: Home directory [/home/kannel]: Use password-based authentication? [yes]: no Lock out the account after creation? [no]: Username : kannel Password : disabled Full Name : Uid: 1004 Class : Groups : kannel Home : /home/kannel Shell : /bin/sh Locked : no OK? (yes/no): yes adduser: INFO: Successfully added (kannel) to the user database. Add another user? (yes/no): no Goodbye! * And this is the error that now I am getting: radius# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kannel start Starting kannel_bearerbox. /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_bearerbox.pid: No such file or directory Starting kannel_smsbox. /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_smsbox.pid: No such file or directory Starting kannel_wapbox. /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_wapbox.pid: No such file or directory radius# * Then I created manually the pid files, and after trying to start the kannel daemon again I got these errors: radius# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kannel start Starting kannel_bearerbox. /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_bearerbox.pid: Permission denied Starting kannel_smsbox. /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_smsbox.pid: Permission denied Starting kannel_wapbox. /usr/local/sbin/run_kannel_box: open: /var/run/kannel/kannel_wapbox.pid: Permission denied * I chowned the pid files to kannel user and finally the kannel services were started: radius# chown kannel *.* radius# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kannel start Starting kannel_bearerbox. Starting kannel_smsbox. Starting kannel_wapbox. * Do you think this is normal? Will this kannel installation setup will behave as should after these sort of tweaks I made? Just create the user. I don't know why the installation script didn't create it, but then again I don't have BSD. I know Alej was looking at FreeBSD for sqlbox. Maybe he could
