Re: Fedora 17 boot problem -
Hello! Could you fix this? Days ago I had something like this but it didn't stop the boot, it only shows me the warning. I don't know what it means. I'm using Fedora 17 Design Suite, 64-bits, with Gnome3, XFCE and KDE as desktops. My computer is a netbook (an Intel Classmate) Hope this helps in some way Lailah El mar, 07-08-2012 a las 12:37 -0400, Bob Goodwin - Zuni, Virginia, USA escribió: I've just installed F-17/64/XFCE on what was an F-16/64 computer. I was surprised to find that I did have an error in my typing, had to use vi to fix and that is always a challenge for me. Still got the same error message. Then renamed/removed /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf and now I have a normal login gui but no cursor/mouse or keyboard inputs? Also can not ssh into box7 from this computer, box9, no route. Is there a way to cause a text boot instead of the gui? If I could get past that things might work? Re: Fedora 17 boot problem -
Bob Goodwin: it's good to bite the bullet and struggle with vi once in a while. Yes, while it's handy to install convenient-to-use editors, it's good to be able to do at least the basic things that you might need to do with the already-installed-by-default editors, so you have a fighting chance at bringing a non-working PC back to life when you're taken by surprise. There are a few interesting stories floating around the net, like how one admin was faced with the after-effects of someone's wildcard deletion mistake, in the wrong directory tree, but because there was an editor still left running on a terminal somewhere, they were able to write enough new commands to dig themselves out of the hole. -- [tim@localhost ~]$ uname -r 2.6.27.25-78.2.56.fc9.i686 Don't send private replies to my address, the mailbox is ignored. As long as I have a reference, a second computer/browser, for commands I can squeak by. *Shrug!* By the time I first encountered vi, I'd gotten past the stage of mastering obscure, counter-intuitive commands just for the challenge of it.[1] The few times I actually had to use it at work, I only managed because of a cheat-sheet, and found it very uncomfortable to use. Later, here at home, I discovered Mork's Editor[2] and never looked back. Thanks Joe, Any time. I've no objections to people using (or even liking) vi, I just think that everybody should be aware that there are other options, so that they can find the one they like best. [1]Back at JPL, in the mid-'80s, there was an editor with both screen and line modes; I mastered the line mode partly Just Because and partly because there were a few things that were easier to do that way. Then, when I had to work from home, it turned out that the VAX I was phoning in to would only let me work in line mode because it wouldn't agree that my modem program was emulating a VT-100. [2]Please don't tell me I have to explain that one! -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? Anyway I gave up and re-installed F-17 from the live usb stick and it's working as expected now. It was important to get the updates and additional applications done today since my bandwidth usage is limited by Viasat and I wanted to use up this months allocation which ends tonight. Did that! Fedora 17 boot problem
Hi. After installation everything I see is the top edge of the screen, rest is just black. No matter if I install from livecd/dvd or try upgrading from Fedora 16 through dvd installer. Same if I try to boot with 3 instead of rhgb and quiet options (runlevel 3 if I remember correctly). Fedora 16 was running fine, without any problems. Hardware: Phenom II X6 1090T, AMD HD 6870, 8GB RAM, HDD WD 1TB Any ideas? Thanks in advice. I have F17 up and running on it, I can let you know off list if I have any trouble after I put the new CPU in.
