Hi,
As far as i know, scilab asks for your information after the download has
started. At least, that's my case. Perhaps your browser is blocking the
download?

Betreff: [Scilab-users] Scilab 6 Release

Dear Scilab users,

We are very happy to announce the release of Scilab 6.0.0.

The Scilab Team invested significant development efforts for the past years in
order to release Scilab 6.
The goal with Scilab 6 is to address technological evolutions and new needs in
terms of modeling and simulation from the scientific & engineering community.
This led our team to completely redevelop the computation core of Scilab in
order to build a solid base combining performance and evolutivity.
The new aspects of Scilab 6 worth notifying are the following:

  * New language parser & new core,
  * New utilities for development productivity,
  *   Xcos block diagram improvement,
  * Newsfeed - a communication channel with the users
Download it on Scilab.org

Scientifically yours

Hi,
The 6.0.1 release that was just announced solved all the problems! Thanks a lot

So, i thought i could compile scilab myself, but when running configure file, i

However the error is kinda strange, since Scilab doesn't use the Gimp
Toolkit (GTK). So I suspect it is something wrong with your environment /
desktop setting.

Yes, it could be. Anyway i'm not the only getting this error on ubuntu. See
this link: https://www.scivision.co/install-scilab-linux/

Can you provide a minimal code snippet to reproduce?

t1 = 1225; t2 = 3245;
tau = 3/2 * ( t2 - t1 )
theta = t2 - tau

s=poly(0,'s')
G=syslin('c',1.72/(1+tau*s)*(2-s*theta)/(2+s*theta))
bode(G)

In console, it gives: Segmentation fault (core dumped) (ubuntu 16.04, scilab 6)
In scilab 5.5.2 works fine the same code.

Hi:

First of all, i cannot run scilab 6.0 in Ubuntu 17.10, gives GTKLookAndFeel
error that was adressed in the past, but not resolved.

Second, in my Ubuntu 16.04 PC, scilab 6.0 gives seg fault when trying to use

And last, is there a way to simulate a trasnfer function with delay using csim?
i'm using pade aproximation by hand right now...

Hello,
Today, I checked again with the Lenovo T420 + Ubuntu 16.04 + SciLab 6 ... and I
could NOT reproduce the bug (that I did observe with the same equipment and
same code 5 months ago). Most probably, an (automatic) update of Ubuntu may
have fixed the problem. But I don't know the name of the file tracking the
changes in the update... If anyone knows, and can give me instructions, I would
be happy to do it if it helps.

Re: [Scilab-users] add number arrays efficiently, how?

2017-03-23 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hi,
I would have also written

SumArr = [SumArr toAdd]

Why is this answer different to the original?

SumArr( (length(SumArr)+1) : (length(SumArr)+length(toAdd)) ) = toAdd;

May be im missing something, but i think in both cases you need to know the
arrays in advance, dont you?

Also, i think SumArr = [SumArr toAdd] has better performance...
Perhaps im not understanding the question..

If you know them in advance, yes. My answer was predicated on not

Not sure what you're trying to achieve, but if you want a plot of the
linear amplitude response on a linear frequency line, use Horner:

H = syslin('d', (%z - 0.9) / (%z - 99));
th = %pi * (-1:0.01:1)';
clf; plot2d(th, abs(horner(H, exp(%i * th; xgrid(2)

S=syslin(dt,H) defines a dynamical system sampled. dt beeing the sampling

If you want the frequency uniis be in rd/s add "rad" as last input argument

Any hints would be appreciated.

Re: [Scilab-users] Simultaneous record and play sound with scilab

2017-01-31 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Thanks for your answer!

The idea was to do it all in scilab. I finally managed to get portaudio toolbox
working... but it does not let you record and play at the same time.

I finally cheated and added 1sec delay to mi equipment (digital recorder) and
put it in loopback mode, so with scilab i played a sound and then recorded the
delayed answer from de equipment. Is not what i wanted but it works.

I'm not sure that this fulfils your need,
but you can use the savewave() function to generate a .wav file,
then use any player to generate the output signal while recording with another
application.

[Scilab-users] Simultaneous record and play sound with scilab

2017-01-29 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hi:

I have to test some audio equipment i've built, and i wanted to know if its
possible to play a sound and record an input simultaneously with scilab. There
is a portaudio toolbox, but is a bit old and i could not manage to get it
working.

The idea is to generate some sinusoidal signals and play them throuh a pro
audio card. That signal is going to be fed to my audio equipment under test and
the response of it should be recorded by scilab. So i do not need to play what
i'm recording; from scilab's point of view, they are two independent signals.

Thanks in advance

Re: [Scilab-users] Converting UT to Standard Time

2015-12-09 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hi:
You may also define a vector with any label regardless your data, and the data
of a particular point could be visually interpolated by the reader with a grid,
just like excell does... I'm not sure if i'm clear enough... i'll send you an
example

time = [63602,63602.05,63602.09,63603.5,63604,63606]
values = [1,2,3,4,5,7]

function convertedtime = timestring(UT) //converts UT
h=int(UT/3600);
UT=UT-h*3600;
m=int(UT/60);
UT=UT-m*60;
if UT < 10 then
convertedtime = string(h) + ":" + string(m) + ":0" + string(UT);
else
convertedtime = string(h) + ":" + string(m) + ":" +string(UT);
end
endfunction

timeTics=time(1):0.8:time($)

newtime = timestring(timeTics);
plot(time,values);
a=gca();
ticks = a.x_ticks
ticks.labels=newtime
ticks.locations=timeTics
a.x_ticks=ticks

Of course, the label does not represent actual data you read from a file or
something, they would just be text labels to let you read the plot... with this
approach you can define the distance between each tic easily

for example, if your time conssists of values sepparated about 0.05, you could
create a new vector containing the positions of the tics, that exclude too near

end

newtime = timestring(timeTics);
plot(time,values);

As tim stated before, scilab does numerical calculation of integrals, very
usefull for ingeneering problems for example... but does not provide any
function for symbolic calculation of integrals. If you really need symbolic
computation of an integral, i would recommend you using maxima, or wxmaxima if
you are a begginner... There is also a toolbox for doing symbolic calculation
trhough maxima in scilab called "scimax", you could try it if you want to do
everything in scilab, but i think is a bit outdated.

May i ask you why you need to do a symbolic calculation?

[Scilab-users] Reading an xcos diagram with scs_m

void1 = []
options =
tlist(["scsopt","3D","Background","Link","ID","Cmap"],list(%t,33),[8,1],[1,5],list([5,1],[4,1]),[0.8,0.8,0.8])
void2 = []
void3 = []
doc = list()

6 DEMUX
7 GAIN_f
8 SUM_f
9 SPLIT_f
10SUPER_f
11SUPER_f
12SUM_f

i would like to be able to generate the same diagram with that information by

Subject: Re: [Scilab-users] Limit command

Hi:
Limit IS a scimax function... i used your script and it worked with some
modifications...

First of all, the scilab function "roots" need a variable type polinomial as
argument... and the symbolic polynomial made by scimas is not this type of
variable, so we need to use scimax's function "sym2poly"...
However, sym2poly needs an expanded polynomial as argument... so we first need
to use "expand" on the polynomial we want to calculate the roots... So your
final script should be:

z = %z;
Syms n z1;
z = z1
X =z *(3*z -(5/6) ) /((z -(1/4) )*(z -(1/3) ))
X1 = expand(denom (X));
X1=sym2poly(X1,'z1');
zp = roots(X1);
X1 = z1 *(3* z1 -(5/6) ) /(( z1 -(1/4) )*(z1 -(1/3) ))
F1 = X1 *( z1 ^(n -1) )*(z1 -zp (1) );
F2 = X1 *( z1 ^(n -1) )*(z1 -zp (2) );
h1 = limit (F1 ,z1 ,zp (1) );
disp (h1 , ' h1 [ n]= ' )
h2 = limit (F2 ,z1 ,zp (2) );
disp (h2 , ' h2 [ n]= ' )
h = h1+h2;
disp (h, ' h [ n]= ' )

Now, the differences in your script and mine could be because the version of
scilab or scimax in which the author programmed that script may not be the
lasts ones...

I would recommend you to define polynomials with the native scilab functions...
scilab has enough functions for polynomials... the script would be:

X =poly([0 1],'z','coeff')*poly([-5/6 3],'z','coeff') /(poly([-1/4
1],'z','coeff')*poly([-1/3 1],'z','coeff') )
X1 = denom (X);
zp = roots(X1);
X1 = z1 *(3* z1 -(5/6) ) /(( z1 -(1/4) )*(z1 -(1/3) ))
F1 = X1 *( z1 ^(n -1) )*(z1 -zp (1) );
F2 = X1 *( z1 ^(n -1) )*(z1 -zp (2) );
h1 = limit (F1 ,z1 ,zp (1) );
disp (h1 , ' h1 [ n]= ' )
h2 = limit (F2 ,z1 ,zp (2) );
disp (h2 , ' h2 [ n]= ' )
h = h1+h2;
disp (h, ' h [ n]= ' )

and the only function from scimax is the "limit" command

Re: [Scilab-users] Limit command

2015-08-27 Thread Pablo Fonovich

So your
final script should be:

z = %z;
Syms n z1;
z = z1
X =z *(3*z -(5/6) ) /((z -(1/4) )*(z -(1/3) ))
X1 = expand(denom (X));
X1=sym2poly(X1,'z1');
zp = roots(X1);
X1 = z1 *(3* z1 -(5/6) ) /(( z1 -(1/4) )*(z1 -(1/3) ))
F1 = X1 *( z1 ^(n -1) )*(z1 -zp (1) );
F2 = X1 *( z1 ^(n -1) )*(z1 -zp (2) );
h1 = limit (F1 ,z1 ,zp (1) );
disp (h1 , ' h1 [ n]= ' )
h2 = limit (F2 ,z1 ,zp (2) );
disp (h2 , ' h2 [ n]= ' )
h = h1+h2;
disp (h, ' h [ n]= ' )

Now, the differences in your script and mine could be because the version of
scilab or scimax in which the author programmed that script may not be the
lasts ones...

I would recommend you to define polynomials with the native scilab functions...
scilab has enough functions for polynomials... the script would be:

X =poly([0 1],'z','coeff')*poly([-5/6 3],'z','coeff') /(poly([-1/4
1],'z','coeff')*poly([-1/3 1],'z','coeff') )
X1 = denom (X);
zp = roots(X1);
X1 = z1 *(3* z1 -(5/6) ) /(( z1 -(1/4) )*(z1 -(1/3) ))
F1 = X1 *( z1 ^(n -1) )*(z1 -zp (1) );
F2 = X1 *( z1 ^(n -1) )*(z1 -zp (2) );
h1 = limit (F1 ,z1 ,zp (1) );
disp (h1 , ' h1 [ n]= ' )
h2 = limit (F2 ,z1 ,zp (2) );
disp (h2 , ' h2 [ n]= ' )
h = h1+h2;
disp (h, ' h [ n]= ' )

and the only function from scimax is the "limit" command

Im using scilab 5.5.2 however...

Finally, this would be the complete script

Syms n z ;
assume(abs(z)>0.5);
x1 =(0.33) ^( n );
X1 = %sym_sum (7* x1 *( z ^( - n ) ) ,n ,0 , %inf );
X1=ev(X1,'simpsum=true');
x2 =(0.5) ^( n );
X2 = %sym_sum (6* x2 *( z ^( - n ) ) ,n ,0 , %inf );
X2=ev(X2,'simpsum=true');
X = X1 - X2
disp(X,'ans=')

Hi:
i think i finally solved your problem
 use this script

Syms n z ;
x1 =(0.33) ^( n )
X1 = %sym_sum (7* x1 *( z ^( - n ) ) ,n ,0 , %inf )
X1=ev(X1,'simpsum=true')
x2 =(0.5) ^( n )
X2 = %sym_sum (6* x2 *( z ^( - n ) ) ,n ,0 , %inf )
X2=ev(X2,'simpsum=true')
X = X1 - X2

i just added the ev instruction after calculating X1 and X2 to simplify the
sum...

the result is

 X  =

 7.06.0
  - - ---
   33  1
  1 - -   1 - ---
  100 z   2 z

that is correct!

Hey: Another thing, in maxima sometimes when the output is a summation like the
one you showed, you can say maxima to calculate it with the command

there should be... perhaps if you search in scimax's help

Re: [Scilab-users] Symbolic computation in Scilab

2015-08-16 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hi:
First of all... scilab latest stable version is 5.5.2, not 5.3... i asked this
to you cause i wasn't able to install scimax in scilab 5.5.2 so i could not try
your script...

Then, i think that the output you are getting is just the summation... let's
take a look to the output of x1:

First you have the 7 scale factor, then, the "=" , "/", and "\" form the symbol
of a summation, from n=0 to %inf... then... inside of it you have
0.33^n/(z^n)... so what scilab did was writing the summation in a symbolic
way... It does that cause that summation is not always convergent i think..
Perhaps you can see it if we write tha same like this:

 %inf
     n
\   0.33
 7   >- n
/  z

 n = 0

If you could somhow specify that |z|>0.33 before doing the summation, but i
don't know how to do it on scimax... If you try with maxima alone the result is
ok..

If i can install scimax in scilab 5.5.2 i will try to solve this problem you
are having

In theory, if im not making a mistake, X1(z) should be 1/(1-0.33*z^(-1)) and

If this is right, the answer should be the difference between them, scaled by 7

For example, when i try to do the first summation it ask if |z|-0.33 is

Hi:
Im courious about one thing... if i may ask, what are you going to do with the
z-transform? Is the z-transfor the result of your excersise, or you want it to
do some other calculation after that?
Could you give me some more information about the problem you wan't to solve?

I would also tell your teacher to let you use Maxima alone for symbolic...
SciMax toolbox is a bit old, and i'm not sure if it's fully compatible with the
newer versions of scilab and maxima.

I totally agree with Tim's answer

Re: [Scilab-users] Symbolic computation in Scilab

2015-08-12 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hi:
As far as i know, scilab does not have a symbolic function for an infinite
summation...
Scilab is mainly intended for numeric calculation... so that functions are not
yet implemented (perhaps in future versions).

If you want to do a symbolic calculation of the z-transfor you mentioned, and
you want free software, i would use maxima... It's a powerfull symbolic
software...

In maxima you could simply do

"sum(0.5^n*z^(-n), n, 1, inf), simpsum;"

then, you will have to input some conditions that you can see from the ROC of
the z-transform... In this case maxima will ask:

"Is "2*abs(z)-1" positive, negative or zero?"

And i assume it's possitive given the function you want to transform... then
you type

"p"

and you will get the answer...

If someone knows a toolbox for scilab to do this... please tell us!

I hope this is usefull for you

Re: [Scilab-users] compatibility Atoms scilab 5.6 / Ubuntu14.04

2015-02-15 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hi... i assume you reffer to the yasp version? i mean... scilab 6.0 current
development?
i think it tries to look for scilab 6.0 repossitory for atoms, but it is not
yet available... so i think you coud just use:

atomsRepositoryAdd("http://atoms.scilab.org/5.5";) and use the previous
repository... when version 6.0 stable cames out, i think the 6.0 repository
will be available...

The problem of this is that i cant remove 6.0 repo with
atomsRepositoryDel("http://atoms.scilab.org/6.0 official")... and this brings
trouble...
perhaps you should just wait till this is solved in the new version

Hello

I have recently installed scilab 5.6 on ubuntu 14.04 but I get the following
message with Atoms:

No ATOMS module is available. Please, check your Internet connection or make
sure that your OS is compatible with ATOMS.

is there anyone who has run Atoms from scilab 5.6 on ubuntu 14.04?

thank you in advance for the feedback

Re: [Scilab-users] scilab doesn't work after splash screen

2014-10-01 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hey: Try uninstalling it once again... Then remove the folder:

 "C:/Users/YourUserName/AppData/Roaming/scilab-5.5.0"

Replacing YourUserName with whatever your user is called... In my case it would
be

C:/Users/Pablo/AppData/Roaming/scilab-5.5.0

Once you have uninstalled it... try reinstalling...

In fact... I would delete every folder called scilab before reinstalling, or do
a clean remove with some application, ive heard of them but never used it.

Hello,I haven’t used scilab for a couple of months and then Yesterday I opened
it again for a university project. The problem is that scilab doesn’t work
anymore, I already try to uninstall and reinstall it(version 5.5.0), I even
tried to install 5.4.1 but the same problem appears. Version 6.0 doesn’t even
start. I attach a screenshot, although I’m not fast enough to catch the whole
splashscreen.

Hi:I think you need to install portaudio before trying to install hart...Have
you got synaptic package manager isntalled? you can look portaudio trhough
synaptic and install it...If you don't have synaptic, perhaps you could try
with:"aptitude search portaudio"and a list of packages containing portaudio
should appear... then use "sudo apt-get install package"whith package i mean
the realname of the portaudio listed by aptitude search... In a few hours i
will have acces to an ubuntu pc and i would be able to tell you the exact
commands..Once you've installed portaudio, you should be able to install HART.

Thanks for answering!
I will try to include the libraries, and if i can't i will grab the functions
from the source...
My expected target are dsPICs or microproccessors without operative system.
I assume that building a code generator for xcos is very hard task, am i right?
Thanks... ill comment later if i succeded.

Re: [Scilab-users] Xcos code generation, compiling with eclipse for standalone usage

2014-09-15 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Thanks for your answer.

So, if i link the libraries by mysefl (like -L/usr/share/scilab/lib -llibrary)
in the compiler, isn't possible to use as standalone anyways? If i can do that,
what libraries should i link? If i can't, why is the standalone.c generated?

The errors i get is that cstblk4_m, selector_m, and counter are not defined,
and i guess there are defined in a library, but i don't know in which

Other question... is there a code generator like equalis for dspic or embeedes
systems, but opne-source? Equalis is far away my budget...

Hi: I'm glad you solved your problem... I didn't answer before because i was
sleeping... i think is night here when is day there...
I was going to tell you about the "traces" of old scilab, cause it happened to
me that when i reinstalled scilab a few time go i didn't need to reinstall
atoms modules... but is good that you could solve it by your own!
Congratulations!
Is not a waste of time, that's why in joined the list and may be you could help
me sometime!

Back again with the source of the trouble!
I thought I had cleaned every remnants of Scilab before reinstalling it. Then I
was baffled by the fact that the new install "remembered" to load Plotlib
Toolbox 0.45. So some old Scilab history file was still left somewhere. I
looked in ProgramData but there is no Scilab folder there (where any Scilab
data should be IMHO!). So I did a search and after a rather long time the
hidden data was found in C:/Users/Rene/AppData/Roaming/scilab-5.5.0.
Once it was removed a fresh install of Scilab cleared all problems.
Sorry for wasting your time, Pablo.
I had completely forgot that some programs use that AppData folder rather than
the more standard ProgramData.
I'll looked into the folder I removed to see what I did to cause ATOMS to cease
functioning in such a bad way.
A lesson however to anyone "haunted" by (bad) actions they did in the past:
Scilab never forgets!
It is still surprising that Scilab uninstall does not wipe out its entry in
AppData!
Thank you and sorry again for your trouble.
René.

Oddly it came with an empty graphic window. Perhaps uninstall Scilab didn't
clean enough Scilab remants of previous disastrous sessions. I didn't dare do

Next I'll wipe out all traces of Scilab and reinstall it again.
But meanwhile please find attached the atoms directory you requested in Word

Thanks for your reply, Pablo.
No I didn't change anything in my copy of Scilab.
The last time I used actively ATOMS was to reload a corrected Matlab-like
plotting library which unexpectedly had ceased to be compatible with the
graphic module which comes with Scilab. As that compatibility was vital to my
projects I reported it and it was soon corrected. So ATOMS was well behaved
that last time I had to use it.
This week-end I just wanted to add maybe an image processor and was only trying
to find what was available when I noticed that ATOMS didn't work anymore.
Yes I tried what you say, even directly inserting one of the examples from Help
concerning the atoms package to be on the safe side. Scilab reported that the
atoms package was not available and then a catastrophic error occurred.
Unfortunately I failed to copy the error message in time. When I tried to exit
Scilab instead relaunched itself into a loop repeating that last exit command.
I could only terminate it with the Task Manager by ending the tasks faster than
they were added to the list of running ones! Not easy winning that race...
Given your second e-mail I'll try to reinstall Scilab again and report back to
you not trying any new trick: chat échaudé craint l'eau froide!
I fear that it might be related to a recent loadful of Microsoft automatic
updates to my copy of Windows 7...
Thanks again and greetings from Sydney where Spring is back!
René.

Re: [Scilab-users] ATOMS problem

2014-09-14 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hi: the problem is when you try to open the atmos gui? have you tried
installing an atom's module by commands?
for example try:
   atomsInstall('guimaker')
or any other package you are interested in... If it works i think the problem
is in your atoms gui.

As atoms used to work before... you may also try to restore your previous
configuration with:
   atomsRestoreConfig()

Have u modified anything to scilab lately?

Subject: [Scilab-users] ATOMS problem

Trying to use ATOMS to search and download a new module I get now (it worked
before!):

  !--error 1

%st_e: Wrong value for input argument #1: not a valid field name.

at line 39 of function %st_e called by :

at line 53 of function atomsSetInstalledList called by :

at line 11 of function atomsGetHomeListboxElts called by :

at line 227 of function atomsGui called by :

("atoms") then atomsGui(); else disp(gettext("Please install atoms
while executing a callback

I uninstalled and reinstalled Scilab 5.5.0 to no avail. I even tried again as
suggested on the web by installing it directly in C:\ but with the same error.
I tried some of the atomsXXX functions and got the message that package "atoms"
was not available!
What is going on? I used ATOMS a lot in the past few years by just clicking its
icon in the tool bar and without any problem.
(My PC is a HP ProBook 4730s under Windows 7. --- WIN32)
Thanks for any help!

[Scilab-users] Xcos code generation, compiling with eclipse for standalone usage

2014-09-13 Thread Pablo Fonovich
Hi: I would like to know if its possible to compile the code generated with
xcos with eclipse (or other open-source ide) into an aplication for usage
outside of scilab. I've been trying but im not able to do so.
If it's possible, is there any tutorial or something?
What i really want to do is to use the code generated as a function of another
program.
