Is there an automatic option for the distance between words in OpenOffice?

Hi - I am using Open Office 4.1 but have a copy of Dragon natural speaking - the support for the latter states that only version 3.4 of Open will work with it - can I install 3.4 but also keep my version 4.1 too? many thanks Phill

Several great answers to this question, but the original poster probably saw none of them ;-) It is a pain, but remember, users are not required to subscribe. So be sure to cc your response to their email address, not just the list address. If you are curious in checking to see if any particular post comes from a subscribed user, look at the full headers for the email. If you see a header line like: Delivered-To: moderator for users@openoffice.apache.org Then this means the user's post went through moderation because they were not a subscriber. Yes, this sucks. Gravity sucks as well. Both require some habitual effort to overcome ;-) -Rob On Wed, Mar 26, 2014 at 7:47 AM, James Knott james.kn...@rogers.com wrote: Robin Rinsler wrote: Can OPEN OFFICE be used for a PC? Yes. Question?
Thanks for the reply, but my question is really about another. Is there an option for automatic distance between words in a sentence such as this: OpenOffice --- is- много--хубавапрограма-редактор,-но--поради-това,-че---не--е--на-български - Difficult --- is - Finding ---in options. This is a copy of a page of the site set for editing, but not just one, but hundreds of pages. Hyphens between words consider them points. I hope my question this time is more accurate description.
RE: Question?
Do you mean justified text? That should be one of the tabs to the right of 'u' (for underscore). Re: Question?
Your question is: how do I control the number of spaces between words / end of sentence beginning of new sentence? Is that correct? Full justification will have varying spaces between words. Like other writing products such as WordPerfect, the standard is one space between words / end of sentence and beginning of new sentence (very annoying in WP as I prefer 2 spaces between sentences). Does this clarify your question? Зограф Оризовски wrote: Thanks for the reply, but my question is really about another. BUG: compatibility problem with LibreOffice
I found a compatibility bug between AOO 4.0.1 calc and LibreOffice 4.2.2.1 calc (portable-apps-version) Test System: Windows Vista 32-bit i copied some cells with simple data from Libreoffice and paste them into AOO. In AOO the data is not filled regular into the cells, the copied range of cells is inserted as an element The reverse way (copy from AOO, paste into LO) works normal. reproduce: Open LO calc, fill some cell with number. copies this cells (Ctrl+c) Open AOO calc, paste the cell (Ctrl+c) can someone confirm this behaviour?

This is a copy of a page of the site set for editing, but not just one, but hundreds of pages. Hyphens between words consider them points. I hope my question this time is more accurate description. As previous replies have suggested, I fear this is not much clearer! Anything automatic would have to be defined, and you have not done this: you need to explain what the rule would be for creating the particular spacing which you would find satisfactory. You clearly do not want equal spacing - but what do you want, please? And what does [h]yphens ... consider them points mean, please? Do you mean that you actually want points (full stops, periods) instead of the hyphens you show - or something else? One thing you might mean is that you want various parts of your text to be spaced in some special way - perhaps so that the text of separate lines line up in columns - and that you want the consequent spaces to be filled with hyphens or points. You can do that by setting tab stops at appropriate positions in your text and using tab characters to space the material between the columns. Go to Format | Paragraph... | Tabs and you will find that you can set a fill character there, to occupy the space between items. Hyphens and points are both possible options. There is no reason why hundreds of pages should be any problem: once you have found the solution, you can very likely apply it to all your material fairly easily. You may find it more productive to set the tabs and fill characters in a paragraph style instead of in direct paragraph formatting. I trust this helps. Or if you're using Windows, why not just buy the latest Word Perfect? It's not that expensive, and it's easier to use (in my opinion) than OO or LO. No styles to change your whole document around when you least expect it! --doug Caveat, it has been a few years since I checked supported apps of WINE, eg: Codeweaver, Wordperfect was not on that list, A big reason multicore cpu's exist is virtualization support (AMD). I recommend this method over WINE, I use various flavors of Windows as needed to run legacy apps, WP8 is my favorite Windows version of Wordperfect, I still have a NT4/WP8 vm, sharing files from my Linux host, via samba. I still address envelopes this way, and the Presentation app is amazing how well it edits graphics. One concept of data archiving is having the application, OS, and hardware to access it, hence the vm. AOO as been spot on for document fidelity since the beginning, Star Office Openoffice. LO has support for WP docs, reads my archived docs, 90+% fidelity. LO these days co-exists with AOO, in Linux, last choice. However, I looked at the WP8 stuff and found that it was dated 1996, which was even before MS .doc 1997-2003, which is somewhat the standard if there is one. Office 11 is copyright 2003. It turns out, when I looked, that I own WP Office 11, and I will try to install that. It would really get my goat to have to install a whole Windows 7 inside a Linux distro to get one word processor to run.
