Would Dearly Love to Register my OO.o Product...
Hello All you lovely people at Apache I have just downloaded and installed OO.o but cannot find any link or clickable to register it. I realise it really helps you chaps to know how many users you have and what not, and would like to offer you some personal data for free! Could you send me a link or tell me where to look? I have searched but I’m looking for links in all the wrong places, as the old song goes. Thankee muchly, death to Micro$oft, and Bright Blessings from the UK. Cheers, Brad Jackson. You've downloaded and installed ransomware on your computer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ransomware Probably similar to these schemes: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9198743/Ransomware_rears_ugly_head_demands_120_to_unlock_files http://www.net-security.org/malware_news.php?id=2594 http://skyrunner.net/wordpress/continuing-news-on-the-cryptolocker-ransomware-virus-this-is-a-nasty-one-folks-take-precautions/ I recommend that you disconnect your system from the internet take your computer to a local computer expert/service and get it cleaned. Well, does this site have any good reputation? At a first look, the site itself seems a ripoff, meant to sell their Reputation fixing solutions to businesses... As for the report, of course OpenOffice has nothing to do with these episodes; we blogged about it multiple times; http://s.apache.org/genuine-openoffice is the most relevant post. I posted a paragraph on the site just to point out the above. Thanks for suggesting it. The answer should go online after they review it. Re: Apache 4.1.1
Frans, Right-click or control-click on Openoffice icon follow the instructions in the pop-up window, you will only need to do this the first time you open the application. Right, but it's not the relatively knowledgeable user (of anything) that falls for these scams. So I think it's a good idea to add a rebuttal so that the average user won't fall for the same. Might be a good idea to do a generic search engine sweep every other month to spot these. I know it's like herding cats, but perhaps we can catch the the most blatant ones lop of their tails (figuratively speaking). Correcting the negative impression that they leave, is part of the business model. I don't know how a US based organization can obtain standing in England, to file a lawsuit against another US based organization. :( The reason for filing the lawsuit, would be to remove the misleading review. On an equally dis-encouraging note, negative reviews crop up on a number of sites, usually with even less apparent justification as this one, but, as happened here, the review is for a completely different product/service. Countering the negative reviews, is an arduous process of education. jonathon -- ODF: Your documents, your language, your way. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
