If all else fails this should work:

- export as CSV [or TSV]
- write a program to find the URLs and rebuild the CSV with the new cell
- open in calc and save as .calc

I can export this to pdf or html, but not to MS Word. What am I doing wrong?
OO 4.1.7 on a Mac running Catalina.

If this can’t be done, I can copy/paste the text into a Mac pages file [I was

formatting gets badly mangled.

Didn’t OO used to have this capability?

This is correct. The easiest way to make the file available to your iPad is to
put them in your iCloud drive which you can share between all your apple
devices that use the same apple ID.

On the iPad open the Files app and select iCloud drive.

Bear in mind that AOO is not available for the iPad, although there is in the
app store an OOReader app which lets you view OO files on the iPad.

there was no 'below' and you don’t tell us what OS you are using, but it is

Otherwise you could export as PDF - that way you would be able to update yr of
document. Issue there is that reviewers would not be (easily) to do electronic
markup.

Be thankful that you don't need to deal with pounds shillings and pence! All
you need to do [as was pointed out] is convert time to minutes and adjust your
cost/hour figure to make it cost/minute.

Brute force solution: print the landscape page as a separate PDF; Print the

How are you sharing the files between the home and office computer?

You shouldn't have this problem if you use a dependable cloud file sharing
product like DropBox. Otherwise keep the file on a memory stick and carry it

The iWork suite [Pages - writer; Keynote - presenter, and Numbers -

extensively; Numbers less frequently.

Advantages:
iOS versions that allow limited editing and writing functions
iCloud integration [and synch; I realize you can do this less automatically

Even: There aren't many functions that work in OO that don't have an equivalent
in OO
Free.

Drawbacks: UI is sufficiently different from MSO/OO that it takes some getting

No database capability.

Envelope printing is heavily dependent on the printer you have and how it feeds
envelopes. What works for me is to create a TEMPLATE for the envelope with the
correct orientation [if the printer end-feeds the envelope, use landscape;
otherwise portrait]. Set margins in the template - again depending on the
above as well as to whether the envelope is centered or left-aligned in the
printer.

A little bit of trial and error may be needed, but when you are done you will
have a template that will last until you get a new printer or a new envelope
size.

Good luck.

This is easy [relatively] in HTML - web pages, but it usually involves
javascript opening a secondary window with the full size image.

I very much doubt if OO macros can come close to this, since it requires

This may well work for envelopes depending on how your printer feeds them. My
envelope templates are for letter size paper - landscape - with margins set to
the envelope area. Mine feeds in the center but an earlier printer fed the
envelope on the left.

I assume that the recipient does not necessarily have OO. This being the case,
there are the following options:

- export as PDF

- save in MS Word format [.doc]. This can be opened in either preview [part of
the Mac OS] or Pages [a word processor that will import MS Word] - either part
of the latest Mac OS versions or free from the app store.

Best way I've found to do this in writer is to use a label template with the
appropriate margins and number of rows and columns, to match your 'standard'
form.

Format the first one as you want it, and insert the graphic [Insert - picture -
from file], positioning and resizing as needed. Add the text.

Then select all in the label box, and paste it into the rest of the boxes, one
by one.

This is seriously dependent on your printer! I'm not sure either of mine would
feed a card that small, but I routinely print 3x5, 4x6, and on the backs of IBM
80 column tab cards.

What I do is to set up an OO writer template with the margins suitable for the
card size. Then using 8.5x11 paper, print a test card. You want the print area
to match up with how the printer feeds the card [I've seen both center and left
side feed] and which way is 'up'. You can create templates for both portrait
and landscape on the card. A little bit of experimentation has been the road
to glory for me.

In finder, select a spreadsheet file and either use Cmd-I or right click to get
the info panel for the file.

Near the bottom of the window, there is a 'Open with' section. Select OO and
click the 'Change All' button. You may need to do this both for filetype .xls

Assuming you are talking about Writer, what I've done is to create a template
with the margins set to the correct location for the To address box with a
suitable size and font face, and another text box with a return address filled
in. The settings depend on your printer and the envelope size. What I do is
test the template on a blank full size sheet of paper, and adjust it so that it
will work with your envelopes in your printer.

HTH. If you want to do it from a list, others can help - won't help much if
the printer doesn't autofeed envelopes.

In general, I have found lurking beartraps when converting presentations from
one application to another.

I had a simple one today that I initially did in Keynote on my Mac. I exported
it as .pptx and opened it in Open Office. The title slide was mangled [the
lower line was inserted at the left of the slide - vertically. I created a new
one in OO and then saved it as PPT. I then opened it up in Office 2012 on the
mac and found another formatting issue where a table had gotten mangled [column

If I were to face this issue today [I think I've struggled with it in the past

then in the scripting language of your choice [Rexx or Python would be mine]

Not necessarily true if you introduce variability from external sources [ping

Pseudo random implies repeatability.

In a prior life I came up with a scheme for a pseudorandom generator that used
computer hardware measured values determined at power on to generate a

8.5"x11 page].

If I set [in OO] paper size of 3x5, the 3x5 area prints on the top left of an
8.5x11 sheet. There is no way to use the envelope feeder on the left side of
the throat;

How am I supposed to print in the middle 3 inches of the throat without lying
to OO?

Is the .odt file format documented somewhere?

new printer - 4x6 format wrong

2016-01-08 Thread Julian Thomas
I have a lot of 4x6 formatted recipes. These are landscape format. The printer
that just died wanted the short edge on the right side of the paper [left
margin was 5.25 and right was 0.5]

The replacement printer [for now] wants the left margin 0.5 and the right 5.25.

How do I automate the process of changing the page format for each of the files?

The only OO app [that I know of] for iOS is OOReader - free and available at
the app store. Lets you view but not edit existing OO files. Works nicely
with DropBox.

PDF editing

2015-11-30 Thread Julian Thomas
Some PDF's seem to have fields that can be filled in by the user - this is
useful for filling in various forms.

The all purpose Preview in OS X will do this as well as act as a mean and lean
replacement for Acrobat Reader for viewing PDF's.

If you don't have Time Machine backup set up, you should. It allows you to
recover yesterday's [or 3 months ago] version.
