Version is the first version where the problem was detected. It's OK to
have 3.x in it. I would maybe keep one issue open for the Cannot open a
DOCX with .DOC extension problem only, and the other one only to
discuss the second problem, i.e. the endless loop.

Does the same here with my 4.0 also, but I don't believe it's a correct 'doc'

It is in archive not binary (.doc) format. Change the extension to .docx

That's good news, but change the file extension of a file from .docx
to .doc then try to open in AOO and you will understand what this
thread is about. If you are interested how/why this file extension
change can/does happen read the comments in the 2 bug reports I linked

Having found the time to check, I find that this issue has already been
reported at least twice:

104295 Reported: 2009-08-17 Version 3.1 CONFIRMED
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=104295

120309 Reported: 2012-07-18 Version 3.40 UNCONFIRMED
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=120309
This report also refers to the perpetual warning loop when the user
answers No to the Repair file message.

Note to QA list:
Since the issue still exists in the latest AOO 4.0.1 developer build and
has been conclusively confirmed, I propose to either:

Close issue 104295 and change issue 120309 to the AOO 4 line and mark as
confirmed.
