You don't particularly need to: you just need to go to the appropriate (new) named bookmark each time you reopen the document. 2. In the Navigator. Didn't you see? Thanks, Rory, that took care of it... and I didn't have to restart the Quickstarter. I just restarted writer. This will be a real time-saver for me. If you refer having the document opening at the last editing position, you need to enter a name in /Tools /Options /OpenOffice.org /User Data on Windows / Linux machines. I'm not certain, but you may need to restat OpenOffice completely for this to take (including the Quickstarter). Re: Opening an existing document
That sounds like an awful lot of work for my use. I would have to do that 50 times a day, and how do you get rid of the previous bookmark when you set a new one? I think I will just use my Portable copy of OOo 3.2.0, from Sun, which does have the behavior I like. This is not an answer to your question, but there are two facilities useful as workarounds: reminders and bookmarks. Set reminders by opening the Navigator and clicking the (paper clip) Set Reminder icon. Set bookmarks at Insert | Bookmark... or again through the Navigator. You can get back to bookmarks and reminders in various ways, using the Navigator or the Navigation toolbar (which are different things). It is a good idea to get used to exactly how to use these, which is perhaps not well explained in the help text. Note that - once you have configured it - you can use the effect of the Navigation toolbar directly from the three buttons at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar. Probably the simplest way to return to a bookmark is to right-click in the Page Number field at the left of the Status Bar (at the foot of the window) and select the appropriate (named) bookmark from the context menu. I trust this helps. Brian Barker - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org

Opening an existing document
In previous versions of OOo, when an existing document was opened in writer (I don't know about other components), it was opened at the same place in the document where it was closed the time beffore.
