Re: Question on Apache OpenOffice

2023-08-21 Thread David Robley

Yes to both. As per answers to this question in another mailing list:

"Both programs should install side by side because they use different
default install locations.

However, the LibreOffice shell extensions could be overwritten by Apache
OpenOffice, so I would suggest to do a "Custom Install" and deselect the
"Windows Explorer Extension" found under "Optional Components". " -
Matthias Seidel

"The short answer is yes. You can install OpenOffice now. Both will
work. However there will be a "fight" to be associated with normal
office file types (such as Open Document, Word, Excel, etc) This means
that when you open a Word file with one Office (be it OpenOffice,
LibreOffice or MS Office) it will become associated with this suite and
to open with another one you will have to deliberately use the "Open
with" option. If this acceptable then you can use multiple Office
suites. If this is confusing then it is better to uninstall the one(s)
you don't use so much." - Pedro Lino

RE: Question about Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 compatibility with the upcoming Windows 10 Home.

2015-07-13 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
I would add that, if there is some specific concern for critical documents,
that a technical preview version of Windows 10 be installed to confirm that
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 and any future versions operate correctly with those
specific documents and the details of operating with them and of formatting
that you depend on.

This can be done in a virtual machine or other arrangement.

Microsoft is going to continue the technical preview (actually called the
Insider program) beyond release of Windows 10. The latest update under that
program is very close to the version that will ship, and the final version will
be provided. Since previews of future updates to Windows 10 will be provided
to the Insider program, it is valuable to keep such a system handy for
verifying that there is no destabilization of your critical applications and
documents. It is perfect for continued interoperability verification although
it should not be used for production work.

 - Dennis

PS: Windows 10 roll-out is going to be in waves of automatic update, even on
machines where the Get Windows 10 fixture has been installed and activated.
Not everyone will update on July 29. Even when the update has been downloaded,
the user has some choice in when the update is actually installed. And
eligibility for the update extends out a full year from July 29.

PPS: I have not seen an end-of-life notification for Windows 7. Mainstream
Support ended in January 2015, but Extended Support (security fixes, etc.)
continues until January 2020, 10 years after the introduction of Windows 7.
There are just not going to be any further Service Packs or feature changes. I
think it is a good idea to upgrade to Windows 10, but there is no critical end
of support at this point.

Question about Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 compatibility with the upcoming Windows 10 Home.

2015-07-12 Thread Mauro Roberto Peña Gutiérrez
Regards.

I am Mr. Mauro Peña.

¿Compatibility issues exist between the Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 with the
upcoming Windows 10 Home?

For me it is vital to keep updated my operating system because I have Windows
7 and this is the one that goes out.

Moreover, I have files of Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 it may need to keep using
throughout 2015.

If the Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 collides with Windows 10 Home, if they do
not open my files on Windows 10, or amending current way in which those
files open, I will suffer serious damage to my diary and future work.

Thanks for your attention.
