Re: [Users] creating and running a vm fails

2012-03-29 Thread Moran Goldboim
Rene, this log doesn't contain the run vm command either it's not
getting there or log snip doesn't contain it. the verb is: call vmCreate

Trail it when you are trying to run the vm on that host.
are you still getting same logs on the engine?

Moran.

Rene, this log doesn't contain the run vm command either it's not
getting there or log snip doesn't contain it. the verb is: call vmCreate
Trail it when you are trying to run the vm on that host.
are you still getting same logs on the engine?

Moran.

It should be something like:
update vdc_options set option_value = 'rhel6.2.0' where option_name =

or
update vdc_options set option_value = 'rhel6.2.0' where option_name =

Thanx for the response. One more follow-up question: I'm currently

Well, VDSM does support hundreds of hosts, but it work well in a small
environments. (my testing environment contains normally up to 5 hosts, so you
have nothing to worry about.)

There are no plans for a VDSM Lite, but I'd like to hear why the current VDSM
is such a problem for you.

Depends why it fails, vdsm log can help.

You can check whether or not you're connected from the hosts to the iscsi
target or reconnect using:
iscsiadm -m discoverydb --discover -t st -p your_iscsi_server_fqdn
iscsiadm -m node -T your_target_name -l

No problems, really, but then I've only set up one node and not yet
built a VM on the node. Let's just say that connecting to the VDSM site
offers a lot of options that I don't think I'll ever need/use. It's more
that I've not played with VDSM nearly as much as I have Virtual Machine
Manager or ProxMox so I'm just not familiar with it.

So, no problems or complaints. I just need to spend more time with it.
Neat stuff, tho, and fun to play with. :-)

I did some googling and it looks like that ID, i.e. 4294967294, is the

One suspicion I have is that your debian server is running NFSv4.  Try
turning it off [1] as oVirt doesn't currently support it [2].

Can the user VDSM R/W anything in the mounted directory from the node?

What you seem to be getting at is a feature like VMware, VirtualBox, or
the libvirt default constructed virbr0 interface to provide NAT to your
guests. At the moment RHEV/oVirt only supports bridged networking with
the ability to vlan if you so wish. In essence all the typical
functionality of the linux bridgeutils and bonding driver. The
restriction at the moment is that RHEV/oVirt only allows creating a valid
network from a bridge which is attached to physical NIC. I have the usual
suspect tricks by creating virtual NICs, using openvswitch, or VDE, etc
in an attempt to achive both the notion of a private internal network
between guests or a NAT networking for the guests.

Thus this limits the ways you could achive NAT or internal networking for
your guests.
- Bridge to a physical NIC(s) which are attached to a network which
already NAT'd.
- Bridge to physical NIC on a private switch and create mutiple vlan's on
top of that
- Via the vlans you can in essence create multiple networks for your
guests
- Via the vlans you can either NAT to multiple networks or create private
internal networks for your guests
-- attach a VM or linux box with one nic attached to the private switch
vlan this NIC appropriately and go to town with NAT attached to an
external network on the other NIC
- Hand configure macvtap (VEPA) or create vdsm hook for it and bridge to
a private switch which supports hair-pinning (guest to guest
communication)

Suffice to say this is definately an area that both RHEV/oVirt could
improve.

Thanks for the Reply, Andrew. OK, so local storage obviously isn't the
best architecture, but that's what I've got, so I'll figure something out.

How about the networking question? How are people getting to their VM's
from the physical network? Here's the original question..

Networking: When I set up a logical network, how is that accessed
from the physical network? For example, if my physical network is
192.168.1.0, and my logical network is 155.223.44.0, how will I
connect to port 80 on a virtual machine with the IP 155.223.44.5
from IP 192.168.1.10. Is there port forwarding? I didn't see mention
of it in the guide.

   Thanks folks,

 Hi Folks,

I've got oVirt 3.0 installed on a Fedora 16 machine, and I'm planning
my data center. Great process, by the way, very straight forward.
I'll have two host machines (on order) which I'll likely load with
the oVirt image. These two hosts each will have a large amount of
RAID 5 local storage. Here's my questions..

Storage: If I'm using this local storage on each host, will I be able
to migrate VM's from host A to host B if needed, or does storage
need to be shared. I guess another way of asking the question is,
what's the best way for me to set this up? :)

You'll need shared storage - NFS, iSCSI or Fiber channel. In the future
they'll be other options such as native Gluster, but for now you'll need
something like NFS.

[Users] Ovirt Node - tls VM Migration Fails

2012-03-29 Thread David Elliott
Hi

I'm ovirt node using the latest ovirt-node-iso-2.3.0-1.0.fc16.iso, and
having a problem with live migration

After fresh install of node
/etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf
listen_tls = 0
listen_tcp = 1
# tcp and tls ports are defaults
# tls_port = 16514
#tcp_port = 16509

[root@ovirt-h-6 ~]# netstat -ant |grep -E 16514|16509
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:16509 0.0.0.0:*
LISTEN

iptables is set to accept ALL

When migration is attempted - it then tries and fails to use tls

2012-03-28 18:33:15.566+: 1622: error : doPeer2PeerMigrate:2129 :
operation failed: Failed to connect to remote libvirt URI
qemu+tls://192.168.192.230/system

- manually configuring a registered/running node with listen_tls = 1,
migration will then succeed

- editing the live-cd and setting listen_tls=1 , a fresh install then has
some problems
libvirtd fails to start on install due to a certificate error (which am
guessing is installed as part of the node registration process with the
engine)
Cannot read CA Certifcate /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem

This also causes the setting of hostname/network details to fail during the
automated installation; so this seems the wrong way to go

I'm not sure if the problem here is live migration shouldn't be using tls;
or that the node registration process should set listen_tls=1 l; but isn't

Any assistance appreciated

Cheers,
Dave

Let's just verify first what libvirt is saying.
Can you please post the output of:
ls -l /etc/pki/CA/

Also, AFAIR, it should be using
/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem

Can you take a look in the relevant config files (vdsm mostly)
and see how it's defined? Did you happen to manually change it?

Don's know where are your datacenters. If both of your datacenters are

then let the other datacenter to import it.
