'Firefox 17 on Linux' and 'Internet Explorer 9+ on any OS'. If you use

Hi,

Just a quick question. I have PXE boot setup correctly now and like
to
do an unattended install.

In the rhev-m documentation I see the parameter
"rhevm_admin_password" .
Is this engine_admin_password in ovirt?

Probably yes,
Are you referring to the password of the administrator of oVirt?

This sounds more like an ovirt-node parameter. It is a parameter that
sets the password on ovirt-node that you can use when you add an
ovirt-node host to ovirt engine by clicking New Host.

It sets a password on ovirt-node.

Mike
Yep it's the node parameter. I couldn't get it to work but missed that
the password had to be hashed with "openssl passwd -1"

I read somewhere in the past that there should be a node auto
registration option but I haven't been able to find much information on it.

Kind regards,

Hi,

I find it hard to find any information about the way I have to follow to
convert/import a vmdk/qcow/raw/etc... single disk into an oVirt disks list.

I know how to use virt-v2v to import complete VMs (disk AND config), but
don't know how to handle a single data disk.

I'd need to know exactly which version of virt-v2v you're running in
order to diagnose the above. I think the unknown fd0 was fixed a while
back, though. Are you running the latest available version?

it implemented only the mirror mode which is a part of vdsm now but you can

Neither do I. Which ovirt-engine version do you have installed?

Do you mean that your issue is the same? Does it go away if you make
sure that the ip and subnet fields are blank (even when you select
None)?

Would you attach the vdsm.log section with 'call setupNetwork', and
maybe a screenshot of the dialog that is opened after you press the
little pencil?

I don't mind the warnings and I also had such errors I was able to
correct manually.

But here, the last two lines are lethal.

It seems oVirt tries to guess which OS is imported, and tries to
do specific actions, and do them bad. Either there's a way o
prevent oVirt from guessing, either there's a way to correct the
actions oVirt is failing to do...

Googling was not that helpful about this issue.

I'm not totally clear what "RHAS 3" is, but you're correct that
virt-v2v has to detect[1] the type of operating system in the guest
in order to determine what operations it has to perform on that
guest.

RHAS stands for redhat advanced server. In our case, this is just an old
"Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)".

It uses the configuration file /etc/virt-v2v.conf to map the guest
type into drivers that have to be installed, but some of this is
also hard-coded inside the program.

Matt (CC'd) might have some more suggestions.

I'll be glad to hear from him.

Rich.

[1] You can find out what virt-v2v (actually, what libguestfs)
thinks is in your guest by doing:

virt-inspector serv-rhas3-vm1

("virt-inspector2" if this is RHEL 6).

I had to install libguestfs-tools.x86_64 to get virt-inspector, and it
correctly find it is a RH 3.

Am I missing some more packages for the perl scripts to work correctly?

This issue looks very similar to what is discussed here:

Hi,
well, fake package is for something totally different. It won't allow you to
run anything, it's there for testing purposes only, you won't be able to run a
VM.
Please try to uninstall it (at worst reinstall the node:-)

Then you should see a proper reporting again. Are you sure your Cluster is
having the compatible CPU type? Please attach the new logs once the hypervisor
is without the "fake" package…

Thanks,

[Users] How do Networks and Vlan-tagging work in oVirt ?

2013-02-11 Thread Matt .
I'm struggeling setting up my network in oVirt at the moment as I would
like to seperate specific VM's from other devices/clients in my network.

I have decent setup switching network using Vlans, this is also the fact
for ovirt and the storage nodes where teh ports are seperated between
storage and management.

Because I want to manage which client can acces which VM I need Vlan
tagging. The question is where are we going to do this, on the VM itself or
on the network I attach the VM's Nic to.

Because of the lacking documentation at this point it's not clear, so I
would like to figure out and maybe change the wiki there.

I also cannot understand why I can set an IP to a network and only the
subnet where I also can set DHCP which puts also the gateway.

I'm not able to set None or DHCP and can only add a network with IP, but
what IP and why ? Or just a 192.16.x.0 with a 255.255.255.0 subnet ?

I hope someone can clear this a little bit more out.

Thanks!

Thanks Frankel,

We added ISO/NFS Domain & Storage Domain from Disk Tab.
Meanwhile we attached the CD which we uploaded by (engine-iso-uploader
upload -i cloud12 Centos_6.3_64bit.iso) this command.
But @ VNC console it shows nothing but a black window.

Re: [Users] my VMs starts with just 15MB of RAM

2013-02-11 Thread Ricky
Hi Michael,

I think I have missunderstod something deeply.

After my reinstall of the hypervisors I got "The guest virtual machine
cannot be started: internal error guest CPU is not compatible with
host CPU" when trying to run a VM. So I found the Fake package and
after I have restarted vdsmd on the hypervisor Webadmin report
"Intel(Fake) CPU" and the VM started, but just with 15-20MB RAM.

So what I want to do is to start my VMs on the same hardware they
always have been on. :-)

My hypervisors are equipped AMD Opteron G3.
