Just to notice that what worked for me online, without need of reboot
of my all-in one f18 system was

take notice of packages to downgrade, just for reference:
rpm -qa | grep libvirt|grep 0.10.2.7-1

mkdir libvirt_downgrade
cd libvirt_downgrade

LIST=$(rpm -qa | grep libvirt|grep 0.10.2.7-1 | sed "s/0.10.2.7-1/0.10.2.6-1/")
SITE="http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/libvirt/0.10.2.6/1.fc18/x86_64/";
(note that it is indeed a "/" in 0.10.2.6/1 and not a "-")

for pack in $LIST
do
wget ${SITE}${pack}.rpm
done

sudo rpm -Uvh --force *rpm

connect to webadmin and start one of my WinXP VMs --> ok

[Users] oVirt 3.3/F19 - Windows guest unable to access network

2013-09-18 Thread SULLIVAN, Chris (WGK)
Hi,

I’m having network issues with a Windows Server 2008 R2 guest running on an F19
host. The guest has a static configuration and is able to ping itself and the
host it is running on, however cannot ping the gateway, any other hosts on the
local network, or external hosts. A RHEL 6.4 guest on the same host with a
similar static configuration works normally.

Iptables/firewalld on the host are switched off and the network definitions in
the XML for each VM (Windows/RHEL) are the same. The virtio network drivers are
installed in the guest. The guest was created from a Win 2008 R2 template,
which was created from a VM imported from oVirt 3.2. Software versions below.

Are there any manual configuration steps required on the host to support
Windows guests? Are there any particular diagnostic steps I could take to try
and narrow down the cause?

Versions:

- oVirt 3.3.0-4

- F19 3.10.11-200

- QEMU 1.4.2-9

- Libvirt 1.1.2-1

- VDSM 4.12.1-2

- virtio-win 0.1-52

Thanks for your help,

Chris

That's very interesting as most other projects sometimes react not
really cool if users/companies announce commercial services.

The company I'm working for / I co-founded (company name ovido - located
in Vienna, Austria) is offering professional services for amongst others
Linux, monitoring and virtualization like consulting, trainings but we
also support these installations. Our main virtualization focus is RHEV,
but for some customers oVirt is - for various reasons - the solution
which fits better their need.

As we really like oVirt and RHEV we try to spread out the word with
magazine articles or presentations on open source events (mainly in
Austria and Germany). Besides this I started open sources project like
the check_rhev3 Nagios/Icinga plugin and the ui plugin for
Icinga/Nagios. What we don't do is announce our offering of commercial
services in an obvious way in mailing lists.

René

I would welcome alternate service vendors proposing services around
oVirt - I think there would also be a great opportunity to collaborate
with the oVirt community and improve the project for everyone if your
company is offering support.

Of course I am biased, but I think that RHEV is the best choice for a
professionally supported oVirt installation today.

No problem.

Btw, are you (or anyone else) working on getting the guest agent into
official Debian/Ubuntu repositories?
Your packages are working really well, so it should be not to hard to

Awesome.

Dave can you have someone edit the installation page and specifically
mention that EL hypervisors don't have native Gluster (fuse only) support -
It would be very frustrating to think you can have all the features, and OS
stability as well, only to find out EL doesn't support a key feature.

I've seen lots of requests on the board for a back-port so this might
preempt more questions / problems.

list despite the commercial nature of the response?

I tried to reproduce this problem but couldn't trigger it using:
1. Enter the storage sizes page
2. Changed the swap value to 100 (allowed value depends on your hosts
   mem size)
3. Saved page, went through the next pages and installed

Could you explain in detail how you triggered this problem?
And are you using the fc19 or el6 iso?

[Users] Exception: ValueError("invalid literal for int() with base 10: ' '", )

2013-09-18 Thread Jorick Astrego
I'm trying to deploy the ovirt node 3.0.1-1.0.2 image. Because we only have a
small SSD and don't need overcommit I changed the swap file size to a smaller
value.

While installing I now get the following error and have to reboot:

Exception: ValueError("invalid literal for int() with base 10: ' '",)

If I don't change the value of the swap, I get a message that the installer is
unable to format/partition the disk.

Kind regards,

Hey,

could it be that you build the iso using the git master branch of that
day?
Because it sounds much like [0] (which is fixed by now, in master).

You should be able to build a working node using the release tags
(ovirt-node-3.0.1 is the latest). Building from master is not guaranteed
to produce a working iso.

Hi

I had the very same issue in Fedora 18 and solved like following:

chown 644 /etc/pki/vdsm/libvirt-spice/server-key.pem

start your VM , it will fail, so take a look at

/var/log/libvirt/qemu/yourmachinaname.log

It will say something like "cannot raed image "xxx followed by a ling path

chmod 666 the_long_path

start your vm: it will run

libvirt changed something in permissions

Not wonderful to have to make 666 the images, but it works

Best regards

Re: [Users] so, what do you want next in oVirt?

2013-09-18 Thread Jorick Astrego
As I'm deploying the new release, I remember the problems we had setting up
Cobbler to PXE boot and install the nodes properly.

It would be extremely nice if there could be an optional embedded pxe/tftp boot
server, setup to deploy the nodes.

There should be an easy way to modify some of the boot parameters when needed.

this is a libvirt bug…see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1006697
I think similar fix is either already in or pending a build for F18
you can try to downgrade ibvirt as well

Re: [Users] NFS Domains down because of single node failure

2013-09-18 Thread Itamar Heim

On 09/17/2013 10:01 AM, Markus Stockhausen wrote:

Hello,

maybe a stupid one but ...

When I create a (NFS) storage domain I have to provide a node host that
makes
the inital contact. All other node hosts wil directly connect to that

no bottlenecks.

Today I stopped one of my two nodes outside ovirt-engine. For simplicity we
assume the node crashed. The machine is up right now but VDSM is down.

All domains that where setup with this host are "down" now (red arrow
down).
After searching the web interface I found "Data center" -> "Select your
DC" ->
"Storage" -> "Activate". Trying to activate only results in a failure
message.
To ensure that I can recover those situations in the future I'd like to
know what
this node binding is all about and what to do next.

Re: [Users] Problems with RHEL 5 x86_64 VMs in oVirt 3.3

2013-09-18 Thread Raul José Cheleguini
Hi Itamar,

Apparently not. I've just upgraded the engine and the node to the latest
stable packages and it is still unable to start up the installation process
of RHEL 5 x86_64 based virtual machines.

# rpm -q qemu qemu-kvm vdsm
qemu-1.4.2-9.fc19.x86_64
qemu-kvm-1.4.2-9.fc19.x86_64
vdsm-4.12.1-2.fc19.x86_64

# rpm -q ovirt-engine
ovirt-engine-3.3.0-4.fc19.noarch

Does anyone else is facing the same issue?

Alon
Our original create_db.sh script (3.2) had this line :

createdb --username=${USERNAME} --host=${SERVERNAME} --port=${PORT} ${DATABASE}
-e -E UTF8 --lc-collate en_US.UTF8 --lc-ctype en_US.UTF8 -T template0

I know that in 3.3 , DB is created differently, you should make sure that the
-E UTF8 --lc-collate en_US.UTF8 --lc-ctype en_US.UTF8 are used when DB is
created

Re: [Users] Ubuntu/Debian ovirt-guest-agent

2013-09-18 Thread Dave Neary
Hi,

The next step is to get instructions on installing oVirt (node & engine)
on Ubuntu and Debian hosts. Ideally, I would like to be able to use
oVirt all in one on an Ubuntu 13.04 install or on Debian Testing.

Anyone care to take this on?

Thanks,
Dave.

Thanks,
Dave.

Hi,
In addition to that, can you also please add log/observe the actual qemu
command line(from ps). It might be a weird virtual hw combination.
What console type do you have? Spice or vnc? Try the other one:)
Feel free to open a bug

[Users] Created ovirt 3.3 node (3.1 hypervisor) ISO but not 100% right?

2013-09-18 Thread Schorschi
I created ovirt node ISO but it is not 100% right. Boots, media check is
fine, the UI executes, can select disk device as expected, enter password,
etc. When the install sequence starts. it just stops at 0% "Starting." then
nothing happens. Tried it with IDE, SATA, even SCSI, all local attached,
even tried it in a VM (nesting enabled, etc.), and same issue appears to
freeze. Jumping to alternate consoles, all blank. Tried to run install in
text mode, removed quiet and rhgb options from boot command-line, but the UI
takes over so no help. When I generated the ISO image, did not notice any
errors, source platform for ISO image was Fedora 19 minimal install plus all
the adds as outlined on the ovirt node build documentation web page. Anyone
run into the same odd issue? Am able to install Fedora 19 on same hardware,
so can't see why node install would fail, since am able to select disk
drive, but can't write to it? Very odd.

Known bug: CVE-2013-4291. Downgrade to 0.10.2.6, or wait for 0.10.2.8
to be released.

Yep, that sounds like it. Thanks for doing the research; I've backported
that patch to v1.0.5-maint, so it will be picked up the next time Cole
cuts a build for F19 (which will probably be soon once some pending CVEs
finish embargo...).

If unspecified in the qemu command line, cpu is set to "qemu64", which
does not match any real hardware, and is not promised to be maintained
between different qemu version. Hence, migrating such a machine to an
older qemu process may lead to your guest suddenly seeing a different
CPU, which is not healthy.
