[Users] ovirt-engine-reports rpm for CentOS and oVirt 3.3
Good morning or whenever, I read what RPM I have to install here http://www.ovirt.org/Ovirt_Reports but I can not find any RPM for CentOS 6. I strongly searched around the web and in the different repo folders, as well as in the mailing list msgs, and it seems the production of RPM for CentOS has been disabled for whatever reason. Is there a private recipe to create them or get them an unofficial way (reports, dwh, jasperreports...) Re: [Users] Proposal for a fresh look and feel for Ovirt
Hi Malini, Really nice :) Few comments: 1. The tabs now don't look like tabs, and IMHO it's confusing. It now looks just like text - is it a button? a tab? another screen. I think it's not clear. It is also less clear in the sub tabs section as well. 2. How about making the tabs area Data Centers/Storage/Hosts... text in bold? Because the buttons under them look more vivid and the tabs area looks pale. 3. Having the same X icon in Remove and Cancel migration options is confusing. Especially when they are in the same menu. 4. Something that was present in the previous UI as well, but perhaps can be improved - the Events option. There are 3 Events buttons/menu in the same screen. Either they represent different events options (different context, for example) - and they should be named and placed accordingly, or maybe the number of events occurences can be reduced in the UI? 5. The colors of the new look and feel - maybe try a different green? The blue seems to have a lighter shade than green, so perhaps somehow make them more unified? - Original Message - From: Malini Rao m...@redhat.com To: users users@ovirt.org Sent: Monday, October 14, 2013 8:06:49 PM Subject: [Users] Proposal for a fresh look and feel for Ovirt Hi all, Here is a proposal for updating the ovirt look and feel to give it a fresh and modern look - http://www.ovirt.org/Ovirt_LAF. Though I think the oVirt admin interface still looks somewhat bloated. I always thought that it shows too much information at once, but only few of these facts are actually useful. Some columns are useless most of the time. This is especially true if you consider the Virtual Machines tab just an overview, not an in-depth view of all VMs. Lets discuss this further: - Display: not interesting if I just want to see the overview - Status: redundant, the icon in the first row already tells me about this - Uptime: not interesting at all, I never used this information for anything - Host, IP, Cluster, Datacenter: Really, why should I care about these details, if I just want to see an overview of my VMs? If I want to know any of these, I can click on any VM and see every detail. Or I choose a specific datacenter or Cluster to see specific details about it. I think this applies to almost every overview page in oVirt. It's too much information at once, and even worse, too much useless information. The point is to show only *really* important information first (status, usage), and from this point the user/admin should be able to go deeper and view specific details. Re: [Users] Recommended OS for stability and centralized NFS storage?
Hi, i just want to add some additional info which I didn't saw mentioned anywhere. When you install from the ovirt.org repo you need some additional packages from EPEL. So, after installing EPEL, use this ovirt.org repo: yum install http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/3.3/rpm/EL/6/noarch/ovirt-release-el6-8-1.noarch.rpm (if you want 3.3) now, install the following EPEL packages: yum install novnc python-ply python-kitchen python-daemon now _deactivate_ epel! Why? Well EPEL holds also ovirt-packages, which have different versions then the ones provided via ovirt.org repo, you don't want to mix them: sed -i 's/enabled=1/enabled=0/' /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo now, install ovirt-engine: yum install ovirt-engine tested and works with CentOS 6.4 x64 and oVirt 3.3 HTH Sven PS: On a personal note: 3.2 is still more stable than 3.3, but ymmv for nodes I would stick with CentOS minimal + VDSM from ovirt.org repo ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

Re: [Users] Proposal for a fresh look and feel for Ovirt

Your feedback and input is invited. I think your proposal looks way better than the current oVirt interface and I think it would definitively be an improvement. Remember, it's just my opinion :-) as malini mentioned, this focused on look and feel. please open a BZ to track the RFE of allowing to choose which columns to see per main tab.
