[Users] ovirt-engine-reports rpm for CentOS and oVirt 3.3

2013-10-15 Thread Nicolas Ecarnot

Good morning or whenever,

I read what RPM I have to install here
http://www.ovirt.org/Ovirt_Reports but I can not find any RPM for CentOS 6.

I strongly searched around the web and in the different repo folders, as
well as in the mailing list msgs, and it seems the production of RPM for
CentOS has been disabled for whatever reason.

Is there a private recipe to create them or get them an unofficial way
(reports, dwh, jasperreports...)

Thank you.

Hi,

I was NFS-exporting many VMs from a 3.1 (iscsi) to a 3.3 (iscsi) oVirt
and it was running fine.

On a linux VM with 2 disks, I see the export process smoothly filling up
the NFS tree. When its seems to reach the data expected size, the web
gui tells me the export has failed.

The engine.log shows this, which does not help me much.

2013-10-14 16:23:12,603 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.SPMAsyncTask]

There is still plenty of disk space on the nfs export domain.
Network has not been interrupted or whatever.

There are snapshots but I checked the collapse box when exporting.

What should I look at?

Re: [Users] Proposal for a fresh look and feel for Ovirt

2013-10-15 Thread Alissa Bonas
Hi Malini,

Really nice :)

Few comments:
1. The tabs now don't look like tabs, and IMHO it's confusing. It now looks
just like text - is it a button? a tab? another screen. I think it's not clear.
It is also less clear in the sub tabs section as well.
2. How about making the tabs area Data Centers/Storage/Hosts... text in bold?
Because the buttons under them look more vivid and the tabs area looks pale.
3. Having the same X icon in Remove and Cancel migration options is
confusing. Especially when they are in the same menu.
4. Something that was present in the previous UI as well, but perhaps can be
improved - the Events option.
There are 3 Events buttons/menu in the same screen. Either they represent
different events options (different context, for example) - and they should be
named and placed accordingly, or maybe the number of events occurences can be
reduced in the UI?
5. The colors of the new look and feel - maybe try a different green? The blue
seems to have a lighter shade than green, so perhaps somehow make them more
unified?

I think your proposal looks way better than the current
oVirt interface and I think it would definitively be an improvement.

Though I think the oVirt admin interface still looks somewhat
bloated. I always thought that it shows too much information
at once, but only few of these facts are actually useful.

Some columns are useless most of the time. This is especially true
if you consider the Virtual Machines tab just an overview, not an
in-depth view of all VMs. Lets discuss this further:

- Display: not interesting if I just want to see the overview
- Status: redundant, the icon in the first row already tells me about
this
- Uptime: not interesting at all, I never used this information for
anything
- Host, IP, Cluster, Datacenter: Really, why should I care about these
details,
if I just want to see an overview of my VMs? If I want to know any of
these,
I can click on any VM and see every detail. Or I choose a specific
datacenter

or Cluster to see specific details about it.

I think this applies to almost every overview page in oVirt.
It's too much information at once, and even worse, too much useless
information.

The point is to show only *really* important information first (status,
usage),
and from this point the user/admin should be able to go deeper and view
specific

details.

Remember, it's just my opinion :-)

Re: [Users] Recommended OS for stability and centralized NFS storage?

2013-10-15 Thread Sven Kieske

Hi,

i just want to add some additional info which I didn't saw
mentioned anywhere.

When you install from the ovirt.org repo
you need some additional packages from EPEL.

So, after installing EPEL, use this ovirt.org repo:

yum install
http://resources.ovirt.org/releases/3.3/rpm/EL/6/noarch/ovirt-release-el6-8-1.noarch.rpm
(if you want 3.3)

now, install the following EPEL packages:

yum install novnc python-ply python-kitchen python-daemon

now _deactivate_ epel! Why? Well EPEL holds also ovirt-packages, which
have different versions then the ones provided via ovirt.org repo, you
don't want to mix them:

sed -i 's/enabled=1/enabled=0/' /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo

now, install ovirt-engine:

yum install ovirt-engine

tested and works with CentOS 6.4 x64 and oVirt 3.3

HTH

Sven

PS: On a personal note: 3.2 is still more stable than 3.3, but ymmv
for nodes I would stick with CentOS minimal + VDSM from ovirt.org repo

We do. It´s really good information to have when you use a centralized updating
system like forcing updates and reboots through puppet or WSUS. If you see that
every VM has been rebooted after there should have been updates except one, you
know that VM probably is in some kind of trouble.

[Users] left space on storage domain

2013-10-15 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hello,

I want to add a new 300 GB disk and ovirt tells me I have 382 Go left on
the storage domain. When doing this, it complains that there is no more
space disk left on the relevant storage.

Can this paramater be changed via engine-config?

Thank you very much guys... works perfect!

I would like to know if there is any chance to make a passthrough of a USB
device that doesn't have the linux driver?

Regards!

2013/10/11 Eduardo Ramos edua...@freedominterface.org

Oh well, there is one missing step:

I had to run this command on engine to define 'hostusb' as a custom
 property:

 sudo engine-config -s UserDefinedVMProperties='hostusb=[\w:]+'

 You can check out using:

 sudo engine-config -g UserDefinedVMProperties

I have to write about it so as to not forget. Now I think it is enough.

 Regards!

 2013/10/11 Eduardo Ramos edua...@freedominterface.org

  Emitor,

You won't put it into a XML. You will configure it in ovirt webadmin.

First you have to install hostusb hook on the host machine. Then editing
your virtual machine, go to the 'Custom Properties' tab. There, select
'hostusb' and in the right textbox, put the id. Example: 0x1234:0xbeef.

You can define several ids, putting '' between them:
 0x1234:0xbeef0x:0xabaa.

 http://imagebin.org/273393

I hope it is what you want.

 2013/10/11 Eduardo Ramos edua...@freedominterface.org

  Hi my friend!

On the host, you can run 'lsusb' command. It will return you some like
 this:

Bus 002 Device 004: ID 413c:2106 Dell Computer Corp. Dell QuietKey
 Keyboard

You just add '0x' in the begining of ids.

Finally, I removed the illegal state disks in the table base_disks
and the disks disapperad from the disks tabs. But those disks still
appear int the torage tab and the sub storage disks, they are empty lines.

How can I remove this lines into the DB?

The remaining leftovers are probably in images table.
Use DeleteImage stored procedure to remove the images records.

So it is referenced into the database but doesn't exist on the storage
domain. I want to erase it from the webadmin, and I try to find the

  haven't
found it. How can I do this?
ps : it appears in the webadmin as a floating disk but I can't attach it
  to
  any vm.
What is the status of the disk (is it marked as Illegal)?
You might hit the disk removal issue addressed by [1]
which has been integrated to ovirt 3.3.
You can find the disk by correlating the 'ID' column in disks
main-tab with 'image_group' column in images db table.
However, removing the disk manually should be left as last resort.
Can you please attach the full vdsm/engine logs?

[Users] Unable to log on with expired passord

2013-10-15 Thread Sigbjorn Lie
Hi,

I am doing a POC of RHEV 3.2 VDI for a customer. Their users are located in an
IPA server, and
RHEV and IPA has been connected using rhevm-manage-domains.

During the POC we discovered that users which have expired password cannot log
on. They receive an
Incorrect password error message.

1. They should at least receive a Your password has expired error instead of
the Incorrect
password error message as this is confusing for the user.

2. This creates a problem, as every time a password is reset in IPA, it's
automatically set to be
expired so the user will change password at next logon.

Is there a way around this?

I would like to see the user being able to log on the User Portal with the
expired password, and
then he will be asked to change his password as usual once he's logging into
his Linux VDI
machine.

Regards,
Siggi

I believe you just need to visit the spice proxy port it connects to via

2013-10-15 Thread emi...@gmail.com
Hi,

I've imported a Windows VM from an ESXi to an export domain using virt-v2v.
It didn't return me any error wen it finished (i think), but when attached
the export domain I get the following advertising and the vm doesn't appear
in the list to be imported:

Failed to read VM '[Empty Name]' OVF, it may be corrupted

Could you give me some hint to fix this, or what it could be the problem?

Regards!

Only limit seems network card that takes a little (1-2 minutes) to

I see that this link still works:

Incorrect password error message.

1. They should at least receive a Your password has expired error instead of
the Incorrect
password error message as this is confusing for the user.

3.3 has the motd to provide some info/url to IPA password changing.

2. This creates a problem, as every time a password is reset in IPA, it's
automatically set to be
expired so the user will change password at next logon.

Is there a way around this?

use the IPA web form to change the password by the user.

I would like to see the user being able to log on the User Portal with the
expired password, and
then he will be asked to change his password as usual once he's logging into
his Linux VDI
machine.

for ovirt, open a BZ for an RFE to show expired password and link to web
page for changing it.

for rhev, open a support ticket to get proper tracking, etc.

Thanks,

There is still plenty of disk space on the nfs export domain.

- Status: redundant, the icon in the first row already tells me about this
- Uptime: not interesting at all, I never used this information for

The point is to show only *really* important information first (status,
usage),
and from this point the user/admin should be able to go deeper and view
specific
details.

Remember, it's just my opinion :-)

as malini mentioned, this focused on look and feel.
please open a BZ to track the RFE of allowing to choose which columns to
see per main tab.
