[Users] [Bug] Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS Server does not start with CD attached

2013-12-05 Thread Sven Kieske
Hi,

I created a BZ with very detailed information:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1038121

tl;dr:

The above mentioned OS does not start correctly if
you attach a cd-rom to it, this includes submitting
meta-data via Cloud-Init.

The System hangs during the boot-process.

I couldn't reproduce this with Ubuntu 13.10, but I
have to get Ubuntu 12.04 LTS running with Cloud-Init.

I did not find any hint in the Ubuntu log files to the causes of
behaviour.

You find most of the relevant log files in the BZ.

The System boots fine if you eject the cd via webadmin.
It seems not to get removed automatically when you shutdown
the machine.

Did anybody else run into this issue?
Any help would be appreciated.

[Users] Failing migration, inconsistent state

2013-12-05 Thread Martijn Grendelman
Hi,

I tried to migrate several VMs from one host to another. Two VMs
migrated without issues, but for one VM, the migration didn't happen. It
seems to be hanging, but the UI is now in an inconsistent state:

- The 'Tasks' tab reports 0 active tasks, but the last task (the
migration in question) is still reported as 'Executing'.
- The VM status is 'Up' (not migrating)
- 'Migrate' action is choosable from menu, while 'Cancel Migration' is
greyed out, but when I choose 'Migrate' and pick a host, I am told
'Cannot migrate VM. VM name is being migrated.'.

What is the best way to fix this?

[Users] VM with stateless snapshot won't start

2013-12-05 Thread Martijn Grendelman
Hi,

After maintenance on a host, I am trying to start a VM that has been
running statelessly for a while. It refuses to start and Engine logs the
following:

2013-12-05 11:59:18,125 INFO
[org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector]
(pool-6-thread-48) Correlation ID: 43d49965, Job ID:

-1, Message: Failed to start VM WinXP, because exist snapshot for
stateless state. Snapshot will be deleted.

Should I submit a bug report for the poor English in this log line? ;-)

The 'Snapshots' tab for the VM doesn't show anything, but repeated
attempts to start the VM just show the same message in the log.

What can I do to start this VM?

Cheers,
Martijn.

After a restart of Engine, the message that I got was different,
something about no host being available with enough memory (which was
correct). So I guess an Engine restart fixed it, even though the initial
migration task still shows as unfinished in the Tasks panel.

Cheers,
Martijn.

It seems I missed some info in the log that may well indicate the root
cause of this issue. Please see attached log excerpt. A database query
is failing due to a foreign key constraint violation.

Please advise how to fix the database inconsistency.

Martijn.

I have done this and it solves the issue.
However, the next issue I found was that the host was not able to join a 3.3
 cluster (i.e. the default cluster).
At this point, I went back to F18.

Could you paste the output of the 'vdsClient -s localhost getVdsCaps' ?
It contains an element named 'clusterLevels' which specifies the compatibility
of the host (the installed vdsm) to the engine cluster.

biosdevname said the device is em1 but the ifcfg file created by anaconda is
ifcfg-eno1 (and the content refers to that name).

The best way to solve this is to create an ifcfg file from scratch like the
 following:

 DEVICE=em1
 BOOTPROTO=dhcp
 ONBOOT=yes
 NM_CONTROLLED=no
 HWADDR=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX # replace X with em1's HWADDR

Then for extra safety, stop and mask Network Manager. And then deploy.

If a failure happened and the stateless vm has shut down without delete
of the snapshot, the next time you will try to run it we will try to
delete the snapshot.
from the engine log, it seems that there is a problem deleting the
snapshot because of quota.

can you please try to disable the quota and try to run the vm again?
Please note that the first time you will run it after disabling the
quota, the snapshot should be deleted but the vm will still not start.
only after the snapshot is deleted you will be able to run the vm again.

Since it was seemingly trying to set the quota_id for this particular VM

I am having trouble upgrading on Fedora 19 to 3.3.1.

  Two observations:
  1) I can't find ovirt-engine-3.3.1, even after a yum clear all; yum update.

  2) There is a dependency update circle involving
  python-cpopen-1.2.3-4.fc19.x86_64 and dsm-python-cpopen.x86_64
  0:4.13.0-11.fc19

This issue is fine. Not so smoothly but we had to do that.
cpopen package is published as part of vdsm code in ovirt-3.3 and before,
On master branch we require python-cpopen formal package that is shipped with
 fedora\rhel currently .

Each time you'll switch between newer version of current master (3.4) to
ovirt-3.3 or older you will notice this report

We should break this vicious cycle.

I think it was intended to simplify upgrade from ovirt-3.4 to
ovirt-3.3 on Jenkins slaves. But that's plain wrong on a wider context.
The Jenkins issue should be solved explicitly by removing python-cpopen
when vdsm-python-cpopen has to be installed.

I am curious how to audit user actions in oVirt web interface. From
engine.log we are able to extract when user logged in, when he updated
vnicProfile and so, but we can not get exact changes (behavior).

Right now I can get logs like:

2013-12-05 16:35:46,270 INFO
[org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector]
(ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-6) Correlation ID: 7e60ae1, Call Stack: null,
Custom Event ID: -1, Message: Interface nic1 (VirtIO) was updated for VM
test.test.org. (User: user1)

But it would be nice to get logs like:

2013-12-05 16:35:46,270 INFO
[org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector]
(ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-6) Correlation ID: 7e60ae1, Call Stack: null,
Custom Event ID: -1, Message: Interface nic1 (VirtIO) was updated for VM
test.test.org *from secure_vlan to unsecure_vlan*. (User: user1)

My point is to have a feature which can give us possibility to construct
exact user behavior and action in managing oVirt. It could be useful not
even in hunting bugs, but primary in security problem hunting.

Thank you.

[Users] Using storage network for gluster

2013-12-05 Thread Juan Pablo Lorier
H,

I'm experimenting with gluster and as my DC is a iscsi dc, I've just
created a new cluster with two hosts and now I'm trying to create a
volume. I've followed all kind of guides in the web without success.
Now I'm having ovirt to complaint about a network error in the volume
creation and I'd like to ask two things:

- Why I must use ovirtmgmt network for gluster (can't choose other from
the add brick drop down list) instead of the network I have set up for
iscsi?
- What may be the problem with network?

I get success on both hosts when I proob each other

# gluster peer probe ovirt3.montecarlotv.com.uy
peer probe: success: host ovirt3.montecarlotv.com.uy port 24007 already
in peer list

# gluster peer probe ovirt4.montecarlotv.com.uy
peer probe: success: host ovirt4.montecarlotv.com.uy port 24007 already
in peer list

I get a lot of this ones in engine log:

just btw, this is the events log from the webadmin.
it covers actions done by users, not content of the edit operation

with the move of the gui to work over the rest api, maybe just auditing
the api payload for these actions would be good enough?

Re: [Users] Using storage network for gluster

2013-12-05 Thread Juan Pablo Lorier
Well,

It seems that I rushed into the list as I finally managed to get the
volume up.
It was a mix of things, had to restart glusterd in both bircks, then
following
http://joejulian.name/blog/glusterfs-path-or-a-prefix-of-it-is-already-part-of-a-volume/
that pointed a solution for a possible bug in gluster 3.4 I managed to
get things working (I had tried before but didn't work, seems like
restarting glusterd made it possible)
Thanks and sorry for so much noise.

Re: [Users] How to pxeboot ovrit node into memory automatically?

Hi Fabian,

I think the bad route is a link local route 169.254.0.0/16. I am not quite sure
if it's a real bug but in my case I have to remove this route.
Also I am using ramdisk based node without a local disk. Can anything be
persisted?

 Hey David,

could you file a bug for that route problem?

You can try the following workaround:

 # Create /etc/rc.d/rc.local with the commands to run
 $ vi /etc/rc.d/rc.local
 $ chmod a+x /etc/rc.d/rc.local
 $ persist /etc/rc.d/rc.local

/etc/rc.d/rc.local should then be run on every boot.

[Users] Gluster Volume Info won't update

2013-12-05 Thread Andrew Lau
Because of a few issues I had with keepalived, I moved my storage network
to it's own VLAN but it seems to have broken part of the ovirt gluster
management.

Same scenario:
2 Hosts

1x Engine, VDSM, Gluster
1x VDSM,Gluster

So to properly split the gluster data and ovirtmgmt I simply assigned them
two host names and two IPS.

172.16.0.1 (ovirtmgmt) hvx.melb.example.net
172.16.1.1 (gluster) gsx.melb.example.net

However the oVirt engine does not seem to like this, it would not pick up
the gluster volume as running until I did a restart through the UI.

The issue (possible bug) I'm seeing is the logs are being filled with
http://www.fpaste.org/59440/13862963/

Volume information isn't being pulled as it thinks the
gs01.melb.example.netis not within the cluster, where in fact it is
but registered under
hv01.melb.example.net

172.16.1.1 (gluster) gsx.melb.example.net
http://gsx.melb.example.net

However the oVirt engine does not seem to like this, it would not
pick up the gluster volume as running until I did a restart
through the UI.

The issue (possible bug) I'm seeing is the logs are being filled
with http://www.fpaste.org/59440/13862963/

Volume information isn't being pulled as it thinks the
gs01.melb.example.net http://gs01.melb.example.net is not
within the cluster, where in fact it is but registered under
hv01.melb.example.net http://hv01.melb.example.net

What's compatibility version of the clusters?

From 3.3 onwards, gluster-host-uuid is used to identify a host
instead of hostname.

Thanks,
Kanagaraj

Thanks,
Andrew

I guess I'm confused as to how Red Hat can be making statements that
Ovirt is a viable alternative to ESXi when many simple things that ESXi
users take for granted simply don't work or are non-existent under
Ovirt. I'm hardly a power user of ESXi, and I've only begun my Ovirt
journey, but I've already come across the following:

1) No easy way to use an NFS share of ISOs to boot VMs with. Have to
create a data domain and custom build a symlink tree.
2) No way to take an existing VM disk image and add to inventory. You
have to go through a process of importing it into a data domain. This
makes it very complex to pop a disk out of chassis and move the VMs to a
new hypervisor and go. Also makes DR more complex.
3) No way to make a backup of a guest using snapshots because you
apparently can't delete the snap shots after you create them. (Must have
been the same engineers who wrote ZFS and never imagined anyone would
want to shrink a ZFS filesystem...)
4) There appears to be little or no documention on what you need to do
to prep an Ovirt guest.. I still am not sure, and I've spent hours on
Google trying to put it together...

Looks like you need
a) virt-IO drivers
b) Spice drivers
c) qemu-agent drivers which you must create your own build environment
and build yourself
d) ovirt-agent drivers which you must create your own build environment
and build yourself

e) have I missed anything?
Under ESXi it's right click, install. done.

Great, I did not know about this page, it is better(formated) source

happened, but not exact info about what was done.

just btw, this is the events log from the webadmin.
it covers actions done by users, not content of the edit operation

with the move of the gui to work over the rest api, maybe just

Does anyone know how to get external authentication to 389-ds without
Kerberos support. I am quite happy with LDAPS and would prefer not to
introduce more complexity.

No option at the moment,
Juan Hernandez (CC'ed) is working on authentication refactor that will allow developing
authentication plugins in an easier manner (and also will break the tight
coupling between authentication and directory services information retrieval)

Just confirming our interest in ldap without kerberos.
