Jiri, Martin, is the file backend able to handle this kind of upgrade?

Hi Sandro,
yes, it is able to handle it, the lockspace uuid is needed only form
iscsi (lvm based) storage, which is not the case when upgrading from
3.4, so we should be safe skipping the check for lockspace UUID in the
setup if the storage is on nfs.

--Jirka

@David, I'm afraid the setup is not able to add host to the cluster
created in 3.4, the workaround might be to deploy the host with the
setup from 3.4 and then update it. Sorry for the inconvenience :-/

I confirmed that the answers file on the upgraded host does not have any
lockspace UUIDs:

OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/storageDomainName=str:hosted_storage
OVEHOSTED_STORAGE/storageType=none:None

Is there something I can do to update the answers file on the updated 3.5
working host so this will work?

Thanks,
David

Hey Daniel,
Thanks for your comments.
First, I do mention the requirement for having ovirt_provision_plugin
installed in bullet 2:
Add oVirt Provision Plugin: yum install
ruby193-rubygem-ovirt_provision_plugin \ foreman-installer
--enable-foreman-plugin-ovirt-provision (Not available yet)

Indeed, I read that. My reasoning at this point it might be too late in
the text. Users (me included) already have tried this at this point
using the pictured guide and failing because of the missing provider.

This is the point witch was entirely unclear for me in my first attempt
and it took me a while to find out.

While the discovery plugin is needed (only) for Bare-Metal Provisioning,
the ovirt provider is always needed for the integration to succeed.

I did think about a hint early on describing the workflow briefly in the
detailed description section:
- Make sure Foreman is running at version X
- Install RPMs in Foreman (see Bare-Metal Provisioning)
- Go to engine, Adding foreman provider

I don't see why the current way we arrange the page is misleading.

Sorry if this is unclear. But:

For the Test button in Add external provider in Engine GUI to work,
one *needs* do this on the Foreman host:
# yum install ruby193-rubygem-ovirt_provision_plugin

you don't need the plugin for that.. it works with any setup of foreman
installation.

If this this assumption is true (it was for me reproducible)
Foreman/oVirt communication will fail.

please open a bug on that with the details. adding foreman provider
without installing the ovirt_provision_plugin works for me if I
understand correctly

Therefore I am still convinced it is reasonable to put this as the first
step before ever trying to add the provider in oVirt.*

The other things, like bare metal prov. and so on are optional.
Installing the oVirt - provider on the Foreman host is not.

We have under Detailed Description 3 levels which have different
prerequisites -
Adding installed Foreman hosts as oVirt hosts - which just requires
foreman setup,

To make this clear, this is not correct since the default foreman setup
does not have the oVirt provider module installed. There are some use
cases where Foreman is added because of oVirt, and some will have
Foreman already runningin their infra. In this case, foreman-installer
was already run.

* At least I was struggling with this requirement. Truth be told,
Foreman was one point on a (very long) check list of mine; so I might
not have paid proper attention to the details. OTOH the document
suggested a strait forward approach with nice details and icons on how
to do it oVirt. For instance, when I got to the section Bare Metal
Provisioning I looked briefly over the requirements and decided to do
this later on. Wrong here, since there is what I need to get it running
in the first place!
The other issue, having two different (one obsolete) ForemanIntegration
docs, is solved now.

Bare-Metal Provisioning - which requires many things. starts with the
ovirt plugin, discovery plugin, configuration of hostgroups
computeresource medias and ends with setting the provisioning templates
accordingly for node installation.

and last - Future Plans: VM provisioning which still in declaration phase.

next foreman build foreman-installer will include the
--enable-foreman-plugin-ovirt-provision option which will make it
easier. its already merged.

This is great to know!

Second, about the openjdk issue, I don't think it worth to mention. I'll
add to the Current Status section that the integration is supported
over rhel6.6 and above.

This will do here.

easier to follow

feel free to comment about that (directly to me or to the list) and you
more than welcome to try that at home :)

I think there might be still the issue I ran into:

A prerequisite to adding Foreman external provider in oVirt is (at least
for me) that Foreman has *ruby193-rubygem-ovirt_provision_plugin* rpm
installed. Otherwise the test will fail with:
Failed with error PROVIDER_FAILURE and code 5050

Sp, on the foreman host one needs to do:
yum install ruby193-rubygem-ovirt_provision_plugin

Also, please note there is an issue users might run into at this step,
so it may be worth noting.
Foreman integration will fail altogether on Engines running = El6.5
because of an too old jdk version not supporting DH keys

[ovirt-users] separate ovirtmgmt from glusterfs traffic

2014-11-13 Thread Demeter Tibor
Hi,

I have a 3 node gluster based cluster. There are 3x3 Nic with bonding.
Sometimes the management is very slow because high gluster traffic.

Is it possible to separate ovirtmgmt network from glusterfs traffic?
I have only one interface (ovirtmgmt) for all of services (migration, etc).
I just wondering I will make three VLANs for these services and use the QoS
function. But how can specify glusterfs for use an other vlan for gluster
traffic an a other one for management?
Also, I have more questions about this:

- If I specify a VLAN on ovirtmgmt, then what happend on nodes? I'm afraid the
nodes will lost the connection with each other nodes.
- Is it possible on a live system? What will happen with the mounted glustefs
based datastores?
- What does vm network mean on ovirtmgmt interface? Can I use this for
seperate network traffic?

My plan is
- vlan.101 ovirtmgmt
- vlan 102 glusterfs
- vlan 103 migration
- vlan 104 display

What is the recommended procedure of this?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Tibor

Re: [ovirt-users] separate ovirtmgmt from glusterfs traffic

2014-11-13 Thread Federico Alberto Sayd

Hi,

I have a 3 node gluster based cluster. There are 3x3 Nic with bonding.
Sometimes the management is very slow because high gluster traffic.

Is it possible to separate ovirtmgmt network from glusterfs traffic?
I have only one interface (ovirtmgmt) for all of services (migration,
etc).
I just wondering I will make three VLANs for these services and use
the QoS function. But how can specify glusterfs for use an other vlan
for gluster traffic an a other one for management?

Also, I have more questions about this:

- If I specify a VLAN on ovirtmgmt, then what happend on nodes? I'm
afraid the nodes will lost the connection with each other nodes.
- Is it possible on a live system? What will happen with the mounted
glustefs based datastores?
- What does vm network mean on ovirtmgmt interface? Can I use this
for seperate network traffic?

My plan is
- vlan.101 ovirtmgmt
- vlan 102 glusterfs
- vlan 103 migration
- vlan 104 display

What is the recommended procedure of this?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Tibor

Re: [ovirt-users] Error trying to add new hosted-engine host to upgraded oVirt cluster

2014-11-13 Thread David King
Hi,

Thanks for the patch - that appears to solve the lockspace problem.

Once I got past that error I got a second error at the CPU selection phase:

[ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Environment customization': Invalid CPU
 type specified: None

Investigating further I realized that I had not pulled the answers from the
first host. I switched to the first host and have added the new host
without any issues.

Thanks for the help,

[ovirt-users] [VOTE NEEDED] oVirt meetings schedule change proposal

2014-11-13 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
last oVirt sync meeting was skipped and the previous one was at risk due to a
bit of confusion on DST changes.
oVirt sync meeting is the only meeting we have bound to UTC without DST changes.

Current scheduled meeting list is available here:
http://www.ovirt.org/Meetings#Meeting_Time_and_Place

We don't have a reference timezone, we use: UTC, EDT, Asia/Jerusalem.

The UTC time zone has been deemed obsolete. It has been replaced by Etc/UTC and
it doesn't use DST.

EDT is currently not observed in North America since DST isn't active.
Locations are currently observing EST instead.

Asia/Jerusalem is following DST changes.

I suggest to unify the reference timezone.
Since it seems that using UTC causes issues in re-scheduling other local
timezone tasks, I guess best solution is to follow the DST changes.
As nearest to UTC following DST I suggest Europe/London as timezone.

Comments are welcome.

[ovirt-users] problems coupling freeipa-4.1.1 with ovirt-engine-3.4

2014-11-13 Thread Moritz Baumann

Hi,
I don't see any users in ovirt after running

engine-manage-domains add --domain=EXAMPLE.ORG --provider=ipa \

only the user baum...@example.org is shown with an enabled=False.

Ipa appears to be setup correct since I can use a

ipa-client-install --mkhomedir

on the ovirt-engine host and login with the created users.

Subject: [ovirt-users] VM migration/creation on host problem ...

 Hello,

I've just reinstall a host (ovirt-node2) and now I am unable to
 create/migrate vm on this host.

In attachment, the log from the destination server (ovirt-node2).

 Any help will be appreciated.

 James

Hi James,

can you please add the libvirt logs? depending on the version of oVirt VDSM is
either
/var/log/libvirt/libvirtd.log
or multiplexed into
/var/log/messages

please also add QEMU logs as found in
/var/log/libvirt/qemu/$VM_NAME.log

where VM_NAME is puppetdb here

thanks,

[ovirt-users] Latest ovirt-node release/installation

2014-11-13 Thread Christopher Young
I sincerely hope that this is not answered elsewhere as I've done several
searches and have yet to find a solid answer. I have three (what I believe
to be) basic questions (with perhaps some subs there):

1) What is the latest oVirt-node release and where would one download it
(I appear to only see 3.4 -based releases of the ISO available)? It is
3.5-based and/or is there an upgrade path? Which glusterfs release is
currently included with oVirt-node?

2) As I understand it, newer releases of oVirt-node allow you to do an
installation of the self-hosted engine at this time. Is that correct?

3) Is there any functionality that one would be losing out on by deploying
oVirt via oVirt-node vs. using full-OS installation? Which is the more
recommended?

Again, I apologize if these questions are covered somewhere, but I felt
like asking them in a direct fashion so as to clear up my own ignorance. I
appreciate any feedback and information that you could share.

Thanks,

Chris

[ovirt-users] noVNC problems after upgrading to 3.5.0

2014-11-13 Thread Darrell Budic
I had noVNC working under 3.4, but can’t seem to get it back up after updating
to 3.5.0. VNC is working if I make direct connections, but it looks like the
web socket proxy never tries to connect to the host server. noVNC is just
reporting then generic 1006 error. Firefox reports it already has the right
ca.crt installed, so it’s not that. From watching the network, it looks like it
never gets authenticated properly to the web proxy, and never tries to connect
on from there.

Any way to get some debugging info for the web socket proxy? Not locating any
in the usual log files when I try this…

Anyone else seeing a similar problem?

Re: [ovirt-users] VM migration/creation on host problem ...

2014-11-13 Thread James James
It's look like Selinux problem. I've just set selinux in permissive mode
and migration and vm creation work but I am not able to connect to the vm.
The network doesn't works. ;(

 Hi James,

can you please add the libvirt logs? depending on the version of oVirt
 VDSM is either
 /var/log/libvirt/libvirtd.log
 or
