Bumping old email sorry. Looks like
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1298693 was finished against
3.6.7 according to that RFE.

So does that mean if I add appropriate lines to my
/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf the next time I restart engine
and agent/brokers to mount that storage point it will utilize the
backupvol-server features?

If so are appropriate settings outlined in docs somewhere?

Running ovirt 3.6.7 and gluster 3.8.2 on centos 7 nodes.

I'm using today a production environment on top of gluster replica 3 and

Raw is always raw-sparse, so that may explain this somehow, yet still odd that
Windows installation would cause so much fragmentation.
I wonder if using the discard hook (and IDE or virtio-scsi) would help - or
perhaps using a qcow2 makes more sense (create a snapshot right after disk
creation for example).

The following process worked for me:

switching to maintainance upgrading and activating one by one to avoid VM
downtime.
3. Upgrade engine by following one of the documented procedures (we just
inatalled a new machine for it and switched DNS after backup/restore).
4. Once satisfied that illing back to 3.6 engine will not be needed - upgrade
cluster level.

Hi,

What is the best way to upgrade a datacenter from ovirt 3.6 to 4.0 ?
Upgrade engine, hosts then cluster ?
If right, how do you upgrade a host running ovirt 3.6.7 ? Simple upgrade or
fresh install ?
During the update process of a cluster, some hosts will be in 3.6.7 and others
in 4.0.2, is it a problem for migrating VMs ?

Found docs about engine upgrade but not a lot about host and cluster.

What kind of storage are you using? local storage? Even though, it makes
little sense to me - the disk is a qcow2 disk, which shouldn't be very
fragmented as you might think (qcow2 grows in 64K chunks).
It may grow and grow and grow (until you sparsify it), but that's not going
to cause fragmentation. What causes it to be fragmented? Perhaps the
internal qcow2 mapping is quite fragmented?
Y.

Hello

in var log messages i get following :

kernel: XFS: possible memory allocation deadlock in kmem_alloc (mode:0x250)

I have this problem on 4 different hosts.

This happens during copying files from network to a thin provisioned disk, no
problems with preallocated disks.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Can't upload disk image in oVirt 4.0

2016-08-23 Thread Niksa Baldun
Hello,

I am trying to upload a RAW disk image via web GUI. After a few seconds, it
enters state "paused by system". I downloaded the certificate:

https://engine-fqdn/ovirt-engine/services/pki-resource?resource=ca-certificate=X509-PEM-CA

and installed it in browser (tried Firefox and Chrome), but it didn't help.
My questions are:

1. What can I do to debug the problem, as there are no error messages nor
entries in system log?
2. Is there an alternative way to import a disk image?

Thanks,

Re: [ovirt-users] Join Windows Domain

2016-08-23 Thread Jakub Niedermertl
Hi JC,

to create a pool of Windows 7 VMs joined AD please:
1. Create a template of selected Window 7 VM.
  * Make user proper guest Operating System is selected (Win 7/Win 7 x64)
  * In "Initial Run" side tab check "Use Cloud-Init/Sysprep" and fill "Domain",
"Organization Name" and "Active Directory OU".
2. Create a pool based on the template above.
3. Run and Shutdown all pool VMs from webadmin for sysprep to be executed.

Using the ISO Storage Domain is one way to solve this.
You might also use glance or image uploader, but you still won't get away
from the copy operation

Re: [ovirt-users] Problem starting VMs

2016-08-23 Thread Wolfgang Bucher
Hello,

the problem is "waiting for launch" takes up to 20 min.

I did a lot of tests with some vm's and th problem is:

1.  create a win2012 server

2. attache a new disk (thin provision)

3. fill the disk from network share with about 100G

4. shutdown the vm

5. reboot host and try starting the vm (takes a lot of time until launch)

It's because of a high fragmented filessystem

Thanks

Wolfgang

Do you mean that some VMs start after long time and some don't start at

Hi Niksa,

If you can make the DVD to be used as an ISO file and use it as part of an
ISO Storage Domain and boot your VM from it

Edit the Virtual Machine -> go to "boot options" -> mark "Attach CD" and
pick the ISO you want to use when booting the VM.

See
http://www.ovirt.org/documentation/quickstart/quickstart-guide/#Attach_an_ISO_domain
for more details

Yes, you have to since the new dashboard is consuming it.

Can you please check if ovirt-ha.broker can successfully reach your smtp server?

They are due to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1101554
We are going to fix for 4.1
The warning is currently harmless.

Re: [ovirt-users] Upgrade datacenter from 3.6 to 4.0

2016-08-23 Thread Barak Korren
The following process worked for me:
1. ensure all hosts are running el7 or above, and all clusters had been
upgraded to 3.6 level
2. upgrade vdsm to 4.x on all hosts (assuming you are not using ovirt-node)
by switching to maintainance upgrading and activating one by one to avoid
VM downtime.
3. Upgrade engine by following one of the documented procedures (we just
inatalled a new machine for it and switched DNS after backup/restore).
4. Once satisfied that illing back to 3.6 engine will not be needed -
upgrade cluster level.

The picture isn't still that clear to me: ovirt-ha-agent is not trying
to fence other hosted-engine hosts.
The communication between hosts simply acts trough the metadata area
on the shared storage.

Do you also loose the connection to the storage domain when you play
with the management network on your host?

[ovirt-users] Upgrade datacenter from 3.6 to 4.0

2016-08-23 Thread Arnaud Lauriou

Hi,

What is the best way to upgrade a datacenter from ovirt 3.6 to 4.0 ?
Upgrade engine, hosts then cluster ?
If right, how do you upgrade a host running ovirt 3.6.7 ? Simple upgrade
or fresh install ?
During the update process of a cluster, some hosts will be in 3.6.7 and
others in 4.0.2, is it a problem for migrating VMs ?

Found docs about engine upgrade but not a lot about host and cluster.

Thanks,

Arnaud

[ovirt-users] can't import vm from KVM host

2016-08-23 Thread Nelson Lameiras
Hello,

I'm trying to import virtual machines from a KVM host (centos 7.2) to an oVirt
4.0.2 Cluster using the "import" feature on GUI.

If the original VM is using RAW/QCOW2 files as storage, everything works fine.

But if the original VM is using a special block special device as storage (like
a LVM or SAN volume), it's simply not recognized.
The VM does appear in the import list of the KVM host, but it's disk count is 0!

Is this a known technical obstacle or am I doing something wrong ?

below is the storage part of the xml describing the original VM :

We have hundreds of virtual machines in production with this type of
configuration... How can we migrate them safely to oVirt?

thanks

Hi Bill,

Have you tried to re-initialize the Data Center with a new Storage Domain.
Add a new Storage Domain to the engine and keep it detached from any Data
Center.
Right click on the Data Center and choose "Re-Initialize Data Center"
