I'm an RHEV/oVirt user since the beginning - I don't know to be honest
but this this trick is working since years. Can't remember if I just
found out by luck or read is somewhere.

Didn't know this is a "secret" ;-)

Re: [ovirt-users] New oVirt Node install on oVirt Cluster 4.0.5 - How can I install oVirt Node with same 4.0.5 version ???

2017-05-05 Thread Rogério Ceni Coelho
Hi Yuval,

Yes, it is, but every time I need to install a new oVirt node i will need
to upgrade ovirt engine at least ? And i will need to upgrade ovirt nodes
that already exist ? I have 20 ovirt nodes So, this means a lot of
work.

My enviroment are stable with 4.0.5 and i am happy for now. oVirt is an
excellent product. Thanks for that.

For example, this morning i try to put an export import storage domain in
manteinance and an error occur only with my new ovirt node running 4.0.6.1
and yesterday a lost 2 days debbuging another problem with network start
with many vlans on 4.0.6.1 ... :-(

Hi Derek,
it is implemented, it may not work as supposed to though:)
Did you try it, how long did you wait, was the VM completely stuck or services
were supposed to be running ok, do you have guest-agent running in the guest?

As we discussed on IRC, that button isn't there in the VM page; it only
exists in the right-click context menu. The lack of documentation of
the existence of that context menu was my problem.

Thanks!

You are correct. The fact that it's a webUI, and the fact that there is
an extension of "functions that don't fit in the window", led me to
believe a rightclick is irrelevant.

As someone who has manned a user-list "helpdesk" for the past 18 years
for an accounting program, when I'm trying to help a user I not only
point out the feature they want, but also how to find it. My assumption
is that the user generally knows what they want but doesn't know how to
do it. Your initial response gave the first part without the second --
so to me YOUR initial response came across as flippant, so I did respond
in kind. Mea culpa. Hopefully we both learn from this?

The visible menu already has the right-arrow at the side for "additional
functions that can't be shown", so I'm afraid I don't buy this argument.
Similarly, the addition of one more icon wouldn't require a lot of real
estate. *shrugs* I'm just a user of ovirt and I get what I pay for.

Yes, capablanca is too old.

The instructions that you mention should still work, but remember to
make a backup before doing that in your production environment.

Anyhow, I'd suggest that you install a fresh euwe, if that is an option
for you.

There is no support for YUM/RPM upgrades, as far as I know.

Is this documented somewhere? In googling various terms like "power
off", "force shutdown", etc I didn't find this trick anywhere (nor did I
find the right-click menu). My searching did come up with the "Reboot"
feature which was supposed to force-shutdown after a timeout, but that
is apparently not implemented yet.

I was testing an older appliance ad I'm noticing now that is based on
capablanca, so probably too old... and it didn't work
Do you think there is a quick path to update it to the latest or better to
directly deploy the euwe one?
I have found this old link:
http://mariopang.blogspot.it/2015/05/update-manageiq-image.html
but I don't know if it is still ok

hopefully there is also a yum/rpm path?

Managing oVirt 4 is supported since ManageIQ 'darga' release, which is
the previous release, current is 'euwe'.

The issue that you mention is already closed.

Like with any piece of software there may be issues. We are committed to
fix them. If you find one, please let us know.

[ovirt-users] New oVirt Node install on oVirt Cluster 4.0.5 - How can I install oVirt Node with same 4.0.5 version ???

2017-05-05 Thread Rogério Ceni Coelho
Hi oVirt Troopers,

I have two segregated oVirt Clusters running 4.0.5 ( DEV and PROD
enviroments).

Now i need to install a new oVirt Node Server (Dell PowerEdge M620), but i
see that does not exist an 4.0.5 iso on
http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.0/iso/ovirt-node-ng-installer/ ,
only 4.0.3 and 4.0.6.

How can i install this new server and go to the same version of all 20
others ???

There is a way to install 4.0.3 and update to 4.0.5 only ?

Thanks in advance.

[ovirt-users] Cannot move disk to a different DS

2017-05-05 Thread nicolas

Hi,

We're running oVirt 4.1.1.8. We have a Data Center which had one
iSCSI-based storage domain (SD). Several machines were created and the
SD got almost full, so we added another SD. This latter is iSCSI-based
as well (actually, they're both on the same iSCSI backend), but when
trying to move a disk to the new one, the "Target" field is empty and I
have no options to migrate this disk to a different SD (see attached
snapshot).

The VM that uses this disk is powered off, FWIW.

At the bottom I just get a message saying:

The following disks cannot be moved: windows-server2012R2_Disk1,
hover over a specific target domain selection for more info.

How can I debug why the new SD is not accessible for moving disks? I
tried creating a new VM on the new SD and it works fine, it's just the
migration that doesn't work.

if it’s not successful there should be an event log message about that. And
prior to taking the snapshot a warning in red at the bottom of the dialog
(that check happens when you open the dialog, so it may not be 100%
reliable)

> /var/log/messages or agent log or other kind of files?

if you want to doublecheck then this is noticable in vdsm.log. First we try
to take the snapshot with fsfreeze, and only when it fails we take it again
without it.

> Are there any limitations on filesystems that support freeze? Is it
fsfreeze the command executed at VM OS level or any other low level command?

It’s a matter of Linux and Windows implementation, they both have an API
supporting that at kernel level. I’m not aware of filesystem limitations.

If you use Windows and the qemu-ga, it'd call VSS, which, if supported by
applications (ranging from Notepad to SQL server) will provide application
consistent snapshot.

I'd remove the FC one, copy it (via dd or the storage) and recreate it as
iSCSI.
oVirt does not move direct LUNs.

The setup wizard recommends 8KB for vmware.

I’ve read that QCOW2 uses 64KB blocks? Does this mean I use 64KB on the

Yes, qcow2 uses 64K, but I'm unsure if that's optimal in any way to the

I doubt it makes a noticeable difference.
