The cockpit based deployment only supports an initial 3 node deployment.
You can try the ansible based deployment to do this - look at
https://github.com/gluster/gluster-ansible/tree/master/playbooks/hc-ansible-deployment
for reference.
Caveat - we have only tested with 3 nodes, but you're welcome to test and
report issues.

Yes, now we are using postgresql 9.5 from scl.
You can connect it with:
sudo -u postgres scl enable rh-postgresql95 -- psql -d engine

I was able to run guestfish with "-v" option, using a wrapper also for
guestfish itself:
"
#!/bin/bash
exec /usr/bin/guestfish.orig -v "$@"
"

The reason for the failure seems this one:
"
qemu-kvm.orig: error: failed to set MSR 0x38d to 0x0\nqemu-kvm.orig:
/builddir/build/BUILD/qemu-2.10.0/target/i386/kvm.c:1809: kvm_put_msrs:
Assertion `ret == cpu->kvm_msr_buf->nmsrs' failed.\nlibguestfs: error:
appliance closed the connection unexpectedly, see earlier error
messages\nlibguestfs: child_cleanup: 0x5614c38e4580: child process
died\nlibguestfs: sending SIGTERM to process 29457\nlibguestfs: error:
/usr/libexec/qemu-kvm killed by signal 6 (Aborted), see debug messages above
"

Any hint?

Based on full output (see below) inside the GUI, it seems that the
step "libguestfs:
finished testing qemu features" has a result of kind

-machine accel=kvm:tcg \\\n -cpu host \\\n -m 500 \\\n -no-reboot \\\n -rtc
driftfix=slew \\\n -no-hpet \\\n -global kvm-pit.lost_tick_policy=discard

and so possibly makes useless my wrapper for guestfish???

here full output into the GUI:

[ INFO ] TASK [Inject network configuration with guestfish]
[ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": true, "cmd":
["guestfish", "-a",

[ovirt-users] Is it possible to start a setup of oVirt-Gluster Hyperconverged infrastructure with six nodes ?

2018-10-17 Thread Ravi Linux
Let's try this question again since my last thread devolved into someone else's
question that had nothing to do with this topic.

Is there are way to setup a new oVirt-Gluster Hyperconverged infrastructure
with six nodes ?

All the docs I see start with a 3-node cluster and then adding one node at a
time.

Is it possible to start with a six node cluster from scratch and use the
storage space from all six nodes with Gluster?

Six nodes, each contributing 2 TB of disk space. How much shared space will be
available ?

Thanks in advance for any help on this question.

The bug is scheduled to 4.2.8, hopefully we will have time to fix this.

People wanting this bug to fix soon should vote for it here:

Every 20 seconds sanlock reads 1MB and writes 512 bytes to monitor and
renew its leases in the lockspace.

This may be the normal I/O done for cluster based locking, storage
monitoring
and storage mailbox.

In any host in the cluster:
- sanlock reads 1MiB from the logical volume "domain-uuid/ids" every 20
seconds
(or 10 seconds, need to check sanlock source).
- vdsm reads 4K from logical volume "domain-uuid/metadata" every 10 seconds
- vdsm refreshes LVM metdata every 300 seconds, running "vgs" and "lvs"
  for every storage domain.
- multipathd checks all LUNs every 20 seconds

On the SPM additionally:
- vdsm reads 10240 bytes from logical volume "domain-uuid/inbox" every 2
seconds

Yes, only one ISO domain in a DC. You have to put into maintenance and
detach, before you can create and add a new ISO domain.

Not quite true at the moment unfortunately, Nir.
If you have a block based storage domain you cannot done it because of this
bug:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1589763

And it doesn't work where probably would be more useful, avoiding so NFS if
not already in use for other reasons.
Created in 4.2.3 but always shifting the solution... even if both priority
and severity have been marked as urgent:
I suggested to decrease them if there is no plan to solve in short time
actually...

Nir,

Thank you for your email. We will go with option 2 (staying on 3.x).
Question - can you only have one ISO domain? Is that why I don't have the
option of creating a new ISO domain while there is one in the cluster?

We support moving disks between storage domains, but this work only for
data domains.
However in current version (4.2), you can upload ISO images directly to
data domain
of any type, so you don't need the ISO domain or NFS in your FC/iSCSI based
setup.

To copy the ISO files from the old ISO domain to data domain on new
storage, you can:
1. upgrade to 4.2
2. mount the old iso domain on some machine, best one of your hypervisors
3. upload the ISO files from dom-uuid/images/.../* to a data domain
using ovirt SDK[1]

If you want a simpler solution, maybe keeping 3.x:
1. detach the old ISO domain
2. add new empty ISO domain on another server
3. mount the old ISO domain on one of the hypervisors
4. rsync the images from old domain images/111.1../ dir to new domain
images/.../

Hello all, I am attempting to add iscsi as a storage domain to
my new Ovirt4.2 cluster. When I finish configuring the storage and click
discover I see all my targets, however when I login to the appropriate
target and then select OK, nothing happens the gui just sits there.
Appended at the end of this email are the related logs from *engine.log.
*I have also attached a screenshot, when I press the ok button nothing
happens, I do not get an error, I do not pass go. I was wondering if I
am not doing this correctly? Or what else might cause this?

Thank you all.

Not yet. I will try next time, as I think I have to run again the cockpit
based gluster hci deploy a few times on host1, because of what described
here:
https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg51632.html

For the moment, a poor-man cleanup that seems to work has been to execute
on host1:

cd /gluster_bricks/engine/engine
rm -rf
rm -rf __DIRECT_IO_TEST__
rm -rf .shard

cd /etc/vdsm/
cp -p vdsm.conf.20181016131252 vdsm.conf
systemctl restart vdsmd

cd /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine
rm -f hosted-engine.conf

cd /etc/libvirt/
rm -rf storage
rm -f qemu/HostedEngineLocal.xml

shutdown -r now

and then run deploy again.

In my case the deploy had stopped after engine storage domain creation and
at step of guestfish to inject network configuration into the to-be
hosted-engine VM
Possibly ovirt-hosted-engine-cleanup covers more areas and scenarios

Thanks in the mean time
Gianluca

[ovirt-users] Re: nul interface error when engine is creating ovirtmgmt bridge post-deployment

2018-10-17 Thread Brad Riemann
For those that may come across this thread with the same issues ive been
encountering, I found a workaround to my related NAT issue (use at your own
risk).

1. I included the setup of the bridge in the ovirt kickstart, due to the
differences in hardware ill be dealing with I turned off Consistent Naming.
2. I have a custom process that re-enables the ovirtmgmt bridge using the API.
I haven't confirmed if step one is required, theoretically you could wait until
the host is put into non-operational mode, list out the host and grab the
interface marked as "up" (that is, if your setup is simple like mine where we
only use one port AND it has established the interface listing, I honestly
don't think it does until its online the first time, TBD.). Then you can plug
the primary interface in to the host_service.setup_networks() function (python
sdk) and it would create the bridge. For my process I wait until the api
reports the interfaces available on the unit, taking the one that's up and
passing it along to my setup functions which rebuilds the ovirtmgmt bridge per
ovirt's specs.
3. Lastly I run through each of the networks assigned to the cluster and add
them through the api, I assumed that they wouldn't be added automatically after
the host gets marked as non-operational so I force the addition via api.

Hope that helps.

-Brad

I guess I should at least wait for that bug to be resolved before deploying in

It lets me configure it at the cluster level so I was initially confused as to

Ah, you did not install in "Both" mode? I haven't tried changing from virt to
virt+gluster mode for engine deployment. Does running engine-setup again prompt
for this? If not, we'll need to dig into this a bit more.

Or are you talking of the services enabled on Cluster?

If you already have the setup running with 3 nodes, you can add the additional

Probably he means he used a not-supported bonding mode before (which one?),
but then using XOR it worked?
Based on this doc:
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Logical_Networks/

"

*Important:* Modes 1, 2, 3, and 4 support both virtual machine (bridged)
and non-virtual machine (bridgeless) network types. Modes 0, 5 and 6
support non-virtual machine (bridgeless) networks only.

oVirt uses Mode 4 by default, but supports the following common bonding
modes

In the mean time I'm trying to use a workaround to setup a 3-hosts HCI
environment usign 3 VMs inside ESXi.
My approach:
- cp -p /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm.orig
- rm /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm
- create a new /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm that is a wrapper:
#!/bin/bash

i=0
while [ $# -gt 0 ]; do
case "$1" in
-machine)
shift 2;;
*)
args[i]="$1"
(( i++ ))
shift ;;
esac
done

exec /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm.orig -machine pc-i440fx-rhel7.2.0 "${args[@]}"
- chmod 755 /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm
- chcon system_u:object_r:qemu_exec_t:s0 qemu-kvm
- chcon system_u:object_r:qemu_exec_t:s0 qemu-kvm.orig

And then I proceed with my setup from cockpit.
All goes well, with local hosted engine vm created from appliance,
engine-setup done, host addition done, storage domain for engine done, but
then it arrives a step where guestfish comes into place and I have the
error below.

Executing ps command before guestfish fails I see:
