I don't think you need to use LVM Cache if you are already using SSDs or

2019-04-16 Thread Simon Coter
Hi,

had the same issue and fixed it by installing:

Name: python2-os-brick
Arch: noarch
Version : 2.5.6
Release : 1.el7
Size: 3.5 M
Repo: installed
From repo   : openstack-rocky
Summary : OpenStack Cinder brick library for managing local volume attaches
URL : http://www.openstack.org/
License : ASL 2.0
Description :
: OpenStack Cinder brick library for managing local volume attaches

Not so elegant because this RPM is not part of oVirt channels.

If it's logging every 10 seconds it's hard to ignore it Benny.
We should really consider either requiring the package or stop logging it
once we logged at vdsm start.

Agree, but the messaging could be improved.
Perception is that something is “really” missing and the same could compromise
the normal functionality.

[ovirt-users] Gluster suggestions

2019-04-16 Thread Magnus Isaksson
Hello

I would like some suggestions on what type of solution with Gluster i should
use.

I have 4 hosts with 3 disks each, i want to user as much space as possible but
also some redundancy, like raid5 or 6
The 4 hosts are running oVirt on CentOS 7
I have 2 clusters due to some licensing issues, so i cant use ovirts setup of
gluster

Today i have set it up as follows
Type: Disperse
Number of Bricks: 1 x (8 + 4) = 12

So i have 3 bricks per host (one brick per disk)

But this setup is not working very well, as soon as i get some traffic on the
volume this start to fail on the ovirt nodes, loosing connection etc.

All hosts are connected via 10G interface

So any suggestions on how i would set this up as best is much appreciated.

Regards
 Magnus Isaksson

oVirt doesn't supported teamed interfaces but only bridged one and I guess
that your 'team0' is a team and not a bond.

Unfortunately, due to an ansible issue, we are not able to automatically
identify team network devices:
https://github.com/ansible/ansible/issues/43129

I'd suggest to reconfigure team0 as bond0 (please take care that also the
name is relevant) and try again.

Hello,

instance type module was merged into Ansible 2.8:

 https://github.com/ansible/ansible/pull/54782

You can try it, if all is working fine for you.

But the issue you had is just missing header 'All-content: true', which
enable listing all attributes.

$ curl -H 'All-content: true' -u user@profile:password -k

On 16/04/2019 16:26, Baptiste Agasse wrote:

Hi All,

As I stated in a previous thread, we use instances types and wanted to automate
some parts to manage it [1]. Thansk to ovirt-orb/lago and pointers given in the
last thread, I'm working on ansible an module to manage ovirt instance types,
but I'm facing some troubles for some of instance type attributes. From the
API, I don't have access to all fields provided via WebUI (eg: Custom Emulated
Machine), and it seems that some fields can be added/updated via the API but
are not part of the response when you read an instance type (eg: VirtIO-SCSI
Enabled). Provided examples are not exhaustive. I tried to find my way in the
oVirt engine code-base to see if the fix will be easy for a non java developer
like me. I find, I think, that it seems to be some API definitions for instance
type [2] that define, if I understand it well, all verbs that can be applied to
each resource and what field can be put when adding an instance type, but
nothing about fields to be included when you read a resource (and I'm not sure
if its related to v4 API). I find also some java code [3] [4] that seems
related to this but As I'm not a java developer, its a little bit difficult for
me to find my path in it. For me this inconsistencies are a bug, but as you
stated that instance types are in deep maintenance mode, do you think that bug
will get some attention ?

My objective is to have a ansible module that manage the hardware/bios related
stuff (memory, boot sequence, scsi controller, bios type, almost all the
things) and HA for instance type.

Have a nice day.

Cheers.

Yes, the issue is definitively there: the engine failed to create ovirtmgmt
and so the host has been set into non operational mode.
I'd suggest to scroll back that file until you find the first error.

[ovirt-users] Inconsistencies beteween WebUI, API read verbs and API write verbs

2019-04-16 Thread Baptiste Agasse

Cheers.

Now VM seems like working:

and network also too:

I establish VNC connection to VM and see that VM have 192.168.122.183/24 and
default GW 192.168.122.1, but when i start installation i point it to
10.128.0.100/24

Does it information can help you?
I can provide more info if you need it.

Finally I was able to login successfully. It came out that mapping module was
not necessary.
I just needed to use full email address as user name.
Even though my domain user name is short "username" I had to use:
name.surn...@mydomain.com to make it working.

Ok, so I figured out that the line:

ovirt.engine.aaa.authn.mapping.plugin = mapping

should go to:

/etc/ovirt-engine/extensions.d/corp.mydomain.com-authn.properties

Now when I run:
ovirt-engine-extensions-tool --log-level=FINEST aaa login-user
--profile=corp.mydomain.com --user-name=a_user

I get INVALID_CREDENTIALS although user and password are correct:

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster suggestions

2019-04-16 Thread Magnus Isaksson
I have 2 hosts per cluster, and i have 2 clusters, 4 hosts (its an Huawei x6000)

I know oVirt don't support disperse, that's why i run gluster outside of oVirt.
And doing that i get a bit more freedom with setting up gluster.
So what would be an good setup to be able to use as much space as possible and
some redundancy with the 4 hosts i have?

I did not quite get this - are you saying you can have only 2 nodes in
one cluster?

Disperse volumes are not supported with oVirt. It's either replica 3
or replica 2 + arbiter.

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster suggestions

2019-04-16 Thread Magnus Isaksson
Its for storage of VM disks, not OS but like filestorage.

I have done a similar setup with distributed replicated arbiter volumes, but i
loose so much storage space.
Each disk is 6TB, in a raid 5 it would be 66TB, with dispersed ~45TB, with
D-R-A it was around 28TB, quite a massive loss.

It was an replicated 3 arbiter 1 setup. When i did this i used LVM and set
Arbiter volume as a smaller disk, think it was 2TB

Like this:
H| 12 3 4
-
1| D1  D1  A1  D4
2| D4  D2  D2  A2
3| A3  A4  D3  D3

Followed this:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_gluster_storage/3.4/html/administration_guide/creating_arbitrated_replicated_volumes
- Example 5.10. Example of a chained configuration

Even if you run gluster outside of oVirt, you are using the disperse
volume as storage domain?

For a supported config, you can create a distributed-replica+arbiter
gluster volume. Since you have 12 disks, you can use a 5 x 3 (arbiter)
setup, where a disk is partitioned to multiple arbiter bricks,
something like this (c11,c12, a31, a32 are arbiter bricks) :

a1 b1 c11
a2 b2 c12
 b3 c13 d1
a31 c2 d2
a32 c3 d3

[ovirt-users] active directory: how to replace u...@corp.mydomain.com with u...@mydomain.com

2019-04-16 Thread Jarosław Prokopowski
I configured active directory authentication but the problem is I need to
replace u...@corp.mydomain.com with u...@mydomain.com to be able to
authenticate.
ovirt-engine-extension-aaa-misc has been installed and I configured it as shown
below but still it is not working. Do you have any idea what is wrong and how
to fix it?

/etc/ovirt-engine/aaa/corp.mydomain.com.properties:
--
include =

vars.domain = corp.mydomain.com
vars.user = CN=user,DC=xxx,DC=corp,DC=mydomain,DC=com
vars.password = password

pool.default.auth.simple.bindDN = ${global:vars.user}
pool.default.auth.simple.password = ${global:vars.password}
pool.default.serverset.type = srvrecord
pool.default.serverset.srvrecord.domain = ${global:vars.domain}

/etc/ovirt-engine/extensions.d/mapping.properties:
-
ovirt.engine.extension.name = mapping
ovirt.engine.extension.bindings.method = jbossmodule
ovirt.engine.extension.binding.jbossmodule.module =
org.ovirt.engine-extensions.aaa.misc
ovirt.engine.extension.binding.jbossmodule.class =
org.ovirt.engineextensions.aaa.misc.mapping.MappingExtension
ovirt.engine.extension.provides = org.ovirt.engine.api.extensions.aaa.Mapping
config.mapUser.type = regex
config.mapUser.regex.pattern = ^(?[^@]*)$
config.mapUser.regex.replacement = ${user}@mydomain.com
config.mapUser.regex.mustMatch = false
ovirt.engine.aaa.authn.mapping.plugin = mapping

In the engine logs I see mapping loaded:
---

But still in the logs I see the {user}@corp.mydomain.com is not replaced with

[ovirt-users] Re: Gluster suggestions

2019-04-16 Thread magnus
 I have 2 hosts per cluster, and i have 2 clusters, 4 hosts (its an Huawei
x6000)

I know oVirt don't support disperse, that's why i run gluster outside of oVirt.
And doing that i get a bit more freedom with setting up gluster.
So what would be an good setup to be able to use as much space as possible and
some redundancy with the 4 hosts i have?

[ovirt-users] sysprep properties file

2019-04-16 Thread Florian Rädler
How can i overwrite the credentials in the sysprep.w10x64 file.
I have created a file /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d/10-domainjoin.properties
Which contains the following:

os.windows_10x64.identification.credentials.domain.value = logondomain
os.windows_10x64.identification.credentials.password.value =
os.windows_10x64.identification.credentials.username.value = username
os.windows_10x64.joindomain.value = joindomain

If I change the credentials section in
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/conf/sysprep/sysprep.w10x64
the domainjoin works.

What did I wrong?

Thanks for your help.

Florian

Hi Everyone,
I have wrongly configured the main gluster volume ( 12 identical 1tb ssd disks,
replica 3 distributed-replicated, across 6 nodes - 2 per node ) with arbiter
one.
Oviously I am wasting storage space in this scenario with the arbiter bricks,
and I would like to convert the volume to non-arbitrated one, so having all the
data evenly spreaded across all the disks.
Considering the the storage is being used by about 40 vms in production, what
would it be the steps, or is there any chance to change the volume type to
non-arbitrated on the fly and then rebalance ?
Thank you very much !

Ravi, can you help here - to change from arbiter to replica 3?

The general steps are:

1. Ensure there are no pending heals.

2. Use the `remove-brick` command to reduce the volume to a replica 2

3. Use the `add-brick` command to convert it to a replica 3.

4. Monitor and check that the heal is eventually completed on the newly
added bricks.

The steps are best done when the VMs are offline so that self-heal
traffic does not eat up too much of I/O traffic.

Example:

I did not quite get this - are you saying you can have only 2 nodes in
one cluster?

Disperse volumes are not supported with oVirt. It's either replica 3
or replica 2 + arbiter.

Ravi, can you help here - to change from arbiter to replica 3?

Just a thought,
Have you considered network bandwidth increase, as your traffic will increase
by 50%.

About getting rid of the arbiter, you may check the following:
https://lists.ovirt.org/pipermail/users/2017-July/083022.html

[ovirt-users] Re: Change IP Node and Manager

2019-04-16 Thread Strahil
I think that you need to:
1. Put in maintenance
2. Unregister
3. Remove host
4. Change IP
5. Add host to oVirt again

Please, someone more experienced to share any thoughts.

[ovirt-users] Re: hosted engine does not start

2019-04-16 Thread Strahil
Try with the VNC console 'hosted-engine --add-console-password'
Then connect on the IP:port that the command replies and check what is going on.
Maybe, you will need a rescue DVD and mount all filesystems and dismount them.
After that, just power it off and power it on regularly.

If you can't use custom engine config, use the xml definition in the VDSM log.

You will also need this alias:
alias  virsh='virsh -c
qemu:///system?authfile=/etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/virsh_auth.conf' , so you can
use virsh freely (define/start/destroy).

[ovirt-users] Gluster suggestions

2019-04-16 Thread magnus

[ovirt-users] Gluster arbiter volume storage domain - change

2019-04-16 Thread Leo David
Hi Everyone,
I have wrongly configured the main gluster volume ( 12 identical 1tb ssd
disks, replica 3 distributed-replicated, across 6 nodes - 2 per node ) with
arbiter one.
Oviously I am wasting storage space in this scenario with the arbiter
bricks, and I would like to convert the volume to non-arbitrated one, so
having all the data evenly spreaded across all the disks.
Considering the the storage is being used by about 40 vms in production,
what would it be the steps, or is there any chance to change the volume
type to non-arbitrated on the fly and then rebalance ?
Thank you very much !

No problem at all Miguel.
These days I will be out of office and not able to analyze the involved
systems and reply with content, but I will do for sure next week and go and
provide feedback.

or not as a first step

Cheers,
Gianluca
