[ovirt-users] FreeBSD 13 and virtio

2021-04-16 Thread Nur Imam Febrianto
Hi,

Any body already try FBSD 13 sing q35 + virtio disk + virtio net ?
I cant get it working, it should be fine in FBSD 13, lastly on FBSD 12 it was
the q35 spec issue with the kernel. Lot of people now it works nicely on FBSD
13, but I cant get it working on oVirt.

Thanks before.

Nur Imam Febrianto

Please file ovirt-engine bug, testing the connection should not be required
for upload.

This is most likely a bug introduced in engine 4.4.5.

We don't have any storage code supporting this device. If you can create
a file system and mount it, oVirt can use it as local storage.

If someone can provide a device for testing, or provide access to a system
with this device we can test this.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt and gluster 9 volume

2021-04-16 Thread eevans
My setup is 3 Centos 7 servers hyper-converged with a 4th stand alone engine
server. My issue is Ovirt is reading the cluster disk as 49GiB instead of 5.5
TB is should be.
One server has a 928 GB raid 5 volume, the second has a 7,7 TB raid 10 volume
and the third has a 5.5 TB raid 10 volume. How is Ovirt translating this to 49
GiB??
Here is a link to the screen shots for verification.
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvgvEzKKSZHbhLIrRBvQRLmoZOeEyw?e=rO83vw
Logs look good unless I missed something.
Any help is appreciated.

[ovirt-users] Strange Issue with imageio

2021-04-16 Thread Nur Imam Febrianto
Hi,

After upgrading to 4.4.5 from 4.4.4, I’m having a strange issue. Whenever I try
to upload something (image or iso) to Storage Domain without clicking Test
Connection, upload process wont start. It will shows the file area already
uploaded but no upload process. When I try to open the log, seems if I don’t
click test connection, it wont open any session in imageio. Upload process will
going normally, if I click Test connection first and proceed to upload.
Any idea why this is happening ? Don’t have this issue before in 4.4.4.
Rebooting the engine doesn’t help either.

Maybe that's going to be my best option. Thank you!

I remember support that exact type of setup (Gluster in AWS VMs syncing website
files) for a hosting company I interned with over 10 years ago.
I've forgotten a lot about gluster since then, but I suppose I need to learn it
anyway, since I've taken the plunge into oVirt land. :)

I'll think about it, and look into it further.

Anyone?

I know that RH 7.6+ and SLES 12.4+ kernel have support but I don't know if
oVirt interface have it, you know? Because Optane memory is " like a local
storage" between disk and memory, more or less is this it.

I ask because we will want use with SAP VMs.

Gluster in the VMs... I was thinking to propose it, but I wasn't sure what kind
of workload you got.

I think that with Redis and Gluster on VM - you will be quite fine.
For the Galera - it doesn't need shared storage at all, so you will be quite
fine.

Don't forget that lattency kills gluster, so keep it as tight as possible , but
in the same time keep them on separate hosts.

> David, I’m curious what the use case is
This is for a customer who wants as much high availability as possible for
their website, which relies on a basic LAMP or LNMP stack.

The plan is to create a MariaDB Galera cluster.

Each of the 3 VMs will run MariaDB, as well as Apache or Nginx (I haven't
decided which, yet), and will be able to accept web traffic.

So the website files will need to be the same across all 3 virtual servers.

My original intent was to setup a mount point on all 3 virtual servers that
mapped back to the same shared disk.

Strahil, 1 idea I had, which I don't think would be ideal at all, was to setup
a separate, new, gluster configuration on each of the 3 VMs. Gluster
virtualized on top of gluster! If that doesn't make your head spin, what will?
But I'm not seriously thinking about that. :)

It did occur to me that I could setup a 4th VM to host the NFS share.

But I'm trying to stay away from as many single points of failures as possible.

But this would still require that I remove a host from the cluster, and add the
new host back in though, right?
My goal is to have a 3-node (replica 3) cluster before the maintenance as well
as after the maintenance.

So I think my earlier question about putting the host into maintenance mode,
reinstalling everything from scratch, and adding it back to the cluster, is
still valid - unless I'm missing something.
Or, are you suggesting that I do the fresh install on the new host, manually
setup the new gluster volumes, and rsync everything over before I put the old
host into maintenance mode?
And then I guess, just shut down the old host, re-IP the new host to the
original host, and viola?

[ovirt-users] Re: Expand gluster volumes

2021-04-16 Thread David White via Users
Sort of. :)
It'll be a dance, as I'm going to need to do 1 of 2 things:

- Put the host into Maintenance mode inside oVirt Engine, then intentionally
degrade each RAID array, add the larger disks, and heal the RAID. Then take the
host out of maintenance mode. This would take some time, as my RAID is 1-disk
fail tolerant, and I have 6 disks in the RAID.
- Put the host into maintenance mode, bring the server down completely,
completely replace the storage, (re)install the base OS, and use oVirt engine
to add it back into the cluster. This would involved intentionally degrading the
gluster cluster during the maintenance.  Honestly, I would probably prefer this
approach, because oddly enough, I think it would go faster, and I could do more
of the work remote without having to be at the datacenter constantly.

I guess bullet point #2 brings up another good point:
I need to learn how to heal gluster in the event of a catastrophic failure on 1
of the hosts. It would be good to know how to do that before a failure occurs.
:)

This thought did occur to me as well. However, the customer is pretty adamant
that they would like to reduce downtime as much as possible, and I knew that
the HA feature built into oVirt meant there could be some downtime while a VM
gets killed and moved from 1 host to another. Don't get me wrong - I'll still
mark all 3 of the VMs as HA inside of oVirt.

But we're using Cloudflare for the load balancing. And we're going to push two
of the VMs through 1 of our datacenter uplinks, and the 3rd VM through the 2nd
uplink, so that our routing will be HA for this customer as well.

At this point, I'm strongly leaning towards just a simple rsync via cron, that
will run every minute (or perhaps every 5 minutes) or something.
But yeah, I'm pretty disappointed that the shared disk approach isn't supported
with the current Gluster implementation.

I'm sure that there are technical issues involved with that decision, but I'm
wondering if that could be a reasonable feature request for future versions of
oVirt?

Empty list (no keys) should look similar to: {"keys": [], "version":

In your case it seems that VMConsoleProxyServlet is not responding
i.e. on my dev env I get a similar result (empty output, error code 1)
when server is down.

It is maintained, but IIRC glance.ovirt.org updated to v2 API during upgrade
(v1 API was deprecated for very long time and IIRC was removed from recent
Glance releases) and therefor older oVirt installations which uses only v1 API
stopped working.

upgrade to more recent oVirt, 4.3 is not supported for quite a long time

[ovirt-users] Re: How do I share a disk across multiple VMs?

2021-04-16 Thread Vojtech Juranek
Hi,
another approach you may consider is to use HA functionality provided by oVirt
which re-create VM on another host if original host become unavailable and
attach the disk from underlying Gluster (which is already HA) to newly created
VM, so you don't have to care about creating HA storage on your VMs. You also
save some resources as you don't have to have backup VMs running.

The drawback of this approach that re-creating new VM takes more time than
switching the traffic to already running VM on load balancer. This depends on
your constraints but IMHO worth to consider.

Empty list (no keys) should look similar to: {"keys": [], "version":
1, "content": "key_list"}
In your case it seems that VMConsoleProxyServlet is not responding
i.e. on my dev env I get a similar result (empty output, error code 1)
when server is down.

However you can check if DB contains the right data (key is encoded as
JSON string - enclosed in double quotes):
SELECT users.username, user_profiles.property_content::text

[ovirt-users] glance repo in 4.3

2021-04-16 Thread Christoph Köhler
I use ovirt 4.3.10 and need to get access to a glance repo for vm
images/templates. The buld-in external provider 'Public Glance
repository for oVirt' (glance.ovirt.org) does not work, it seems not to
be maintained.

Does someone knows what to do?

Greetings from
Christoph

but the same command on the main  engine returns empty

[root@air ~]#

It seems that UI field doesn't inject the key, it should exist an other
way to do it with CLI/API

Hi,
Can you retrieve the keys locally? Do they look the same as on the
other engines?
Try executing the following from shell(engine machine)l:
/libexec/ovirt-vmconsole-proxy-helper/ovirt-vmconsole-list.py"
--version "1" keys

[ovirt-users] ovirt-hosted-engine-cleanup

2021-04-16 Thread Marko Vrgotic
Dear oVirt,

I have three HE Hosts. Upon upgrade from 4.3.5 to 4.3.10 the Hosted Engine did
not start anymore on Host2, but working just fine on Host1 and Host3.

I tried to Undeploy – Deploy on Host2 but I noticed that hosted-engine.conf
contains only ca path and host id. It looks like either Undeploy properly or
Deploy is failing due to reason I am unable to find in the logs.

When checking the hosted-engine –vm-status, even though undeployed, the output
was still containing Host2 in the list. Than I cleaned metadata on the Host1
and 3 for Host2 and at that point it was forgotten.

After that I tried adding the Host2 back to HE pool, first installed the Host2
with fresh OS and than added it to Hosts pool with HostedEngine DEPLOY option.
Result was the same.
The VDSM on the Host2 was showing ERROR: “2021-04-16 06:47:30,422+ ERROR
(periodic/3) [root] failed to retrieve Hosted Engine HA score '[Errno 2] No
such file or directory'Is the Hosted Engine setup finished? (api:196)”
The broker is showing the error: “MainThread::WARNING::2021-04-16
06:47:27,514::storage_broker::97::ovirt_hosted_engine_ha.broker.storage_broker.StorageBroker::(__init__)
Can't connect vdsm storage: 'metadata_image_UUID can't be 'None'

Atm, I am thinking of executing the /usr/sbin/ovirt-hosted-engine-cleanup but
its effect is not clear to me. Is it going to cleanup any HE deploy remains
from the Host its executed on, or its going to cleanup the other two Hosts,
rendering my platfrom offline? I have been reading through
https://www.ovirt.org/images/Hosted-Engine-4.3-deep-dive.pdf but its effect is
not clear.

I would have tested it already but this issue is on our production platform, so
I need some experts input before taking further action.

Please advise.
