Hi, The link you attached is for installing the engine on a stand alone machine. In case you want to have the engine and the host on the same machine you should install hosted-engine: https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/installing_ovirt_as_a_self-hosted_engine_using_the_command_line/ Regards, Asaf On Wed, Dec 8, 2021 at 8:57 AM wrote: > I'm trying to install both the oVirt engine (so I have the API), and > hypervisor on the same machine. [ovirt-users] Help installing oVirt on single machine, without cockpit
I'm trying to install both the oVirt engine (so I have the API), and hypervisor on the same machine. I'm hoping I don't need cockpit, and I can write some custom scripts to manage oVirt through the API. I tried a couple ways, and both were blocked: # on CentOS 9 stream, installing oVirt engine: On a fresh CentOS install, tried following the directions [here](https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/installing_ovirt_as_a_standalone_manager_with_local_databases/#Installing_RHEL_for_RHVM_SM_localDB_deploy). They failed at step 3.2, when adding the modules (missing groups or modules). Tried skipping it, but step 3.3.2 failed when running `dnf install ovirt-engine`, package couldn't be found. The closest package I see is `ovirt-hosted-engine-setup-2.5.4-1.el9.noarch`. Is that what I want? # On oVirt node, installing engine: Couldn't get the networking working, even though I added it during the install process. Also tried wired connection, and no luck. Blocked early on, but read this was SUPER minimal anyway, so maybe this wasn't the right path. I'm just trying to have a working API, along side the hypervisor to run vm's, both on the same machine. I'm down to go a third way too, if anyone has any ideas. Hi I have an existing oVirt host 4.4 running on CentOS 8, and I am in the process of converting the OS to CentOS Stream. I am getting the following errors: ``` # yum update Last metadata expiration check: 0:03:14 ago on Wed 08 Dec 2021 01:05:55 AM CET. It's being removed from RHEL 9, unsure of reasoning. So this mean that oVirt cannot offer SPICE/QXL on RHEL9, there is no spice package, qemu is compiled without SPICE/QXL support, the kernel does not support QXL video drivers. It's not that oVirt is killing off SPICE/QXL, but rather RHEL9 is and oVirt cannot support a feature not available on the host OS unless 3rd party packages or a SiG makes them available. Yes, one would need to make sure vnc/vga works well before upgrading to the next cluster-level (in oVirt 4.5) In general it is recommended to test the configuration in the new cluster-level by setting some representative VMs in the environment with a custom compatibility level and check that they work properly before upgrading to that cluster-level. [ovirt-users] Re: no QXL ?
Hi, Will SPICE be deprecated or fully removed in oVirt 4.5? Since spice is still more performant than VNC and also has more features such as USB redirection, why is it being phased out? Which connection method should we use to connect clients with a VM from a pool when USB redirection is also a requirement? As the pure SPICE mode only works with QXL display as far as I can tell. I ask because the VNC or SPICE+VNC modes haven't worked in my environment for over a year now, and that change would effectively prevent the use of any VM console in my environment. (Use of VNC with remote viewer always gives me an authentication error.) Not that it's a normal environment, but that kind of thing should be advertised more. Just in case simillar issues exist in other deployments. Right, and that's the reason for the ongoing work on removing qxl on cluster level 4.7: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1976607 ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/DZMAQQJMPHD2L4DPVHTET5N4KB4MZDUY/ ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/22NZAQL46WMEFFKQ66EKZBHGE5KCX3MY/ ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/GT5YYVAFM4P7AMCFFCJNYZO75Y6M3H4R/ ___ Users mailing list --users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email tousers-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement:https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct:https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives:https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/A3SCN663TVNEKPK3O2SZXJGHVVBXTQ77/ -- Rik Theys System Engineer KU Leuven - Dept.
