[ovirt-users] Switching 4.4 hosted-engine from Linux 8 to Stream 8 before upgrading to 4.5

2022-11-18 Thread Diggy Mc

It is my understanding that the 4.4 engine must be on Stream 8 before it can be
upgraded to oVirt version 4.5.

Is there an easy and reliable way to switch a 4.4 hosted-engine that is still
using oVirt's CentOS Linux 8 repositories over to oVirt's CentOS Stream 8
repositories? If yes, how? Also, what would be the rollback/recovery
procedure should the switchover fail?

In brief, our engine was originally deployed using oVirt Node 4.4.3. At
present, the engine is at version 4.4.10.7. Also, all our hosts are running
oVirt Node v4.4.10.2 and are using oVirt's CentOS Stream 8 repositories.

Any help and guidance is greatly appreciated.

[ovirt-users] Re: Virtual Machine Pools

2022-11-18 Thread Christopher Law
Thanks for this.

In our environment the engine (physical host) is on an isolated network so
“normal” users wouldn’t have access to this, but perhaps I can find a way to
expose it or use the APIs you mention.

Cheers,

Chris.

From the redhat instructions…

“In principle, virtual machines in a pool are started when taken by a user, and
shut down when the user is finished. However, virtual machine pools can also
contain pre-started virtual machines. Pre-started virtual machines are kept in
an up state, and remain idle until they are taken by a user. This allows users
to start using such virtual machines immediately, but these virtual machines
will consume system resources even while not in use due to being idle.”

How do users request “take” virtual machines from the pool? For example with a
windows machine where we want them to remote desktop into it using RDP? Or does
this have to happen through some other portal? Do we have to give users access
to the VM Portal?

It generally refers to the VM portal - users should be able to access it and
take virtual machines there and then, when their VM is allocated and started,
they can connect to it using RDP. But it can alternatively be done using
scripts/tools that do this via the API:
https://ovirt.github.io/ovirt-engine-api-model/4.5/#services/vm_pool/methods/allocate_vm

Cheers,

Chris.

[ovirt-users] Yet another hosted engine deployment fails 4.5.2

2022-11-18 Thread simon
New install (4.5.2) and back to square one - install fails. Now the ovirtmgmt
interface isn't created but vnet0 is - no idea what the cause is as there's
nothing in the setup logs.

oVirt = 1 step forward 3 steps back - and now with almost no support as the
project is heading towards the scrap heap - So frustrating.

Deadline for this install is Monday so I guess it's back to 4.4.6 install
followed by upgrade path - Arghg!
