[ovirt-users] Downloading successful, but checksum doesn't match

2022-11-07 Thread jb

Hello community,

since yesterday I try to update my cluster, but when I was trying it
through GUI it never finished and when I try it manually I got:

[MIRROR] ovirt-node-ng-image-update-4.5.3.2-1.el8.noarch.rpm:
Downloading successful, but checksum doesn't match. Calculated:

and it starts again the download process.

Before I also run: dnf clean all

Can it be, that something with the mirrors are wrong?

[ovirt-users] Re: storage high latency, sanlock errors, cluster instability

2022-05-31 Thread jb
I still have the same problems, but it look like that the errors comes a
bit less often.

I'm starting now to migrate the disk images to a NFS storage. When there
is no other way, I would recreate the glusterFS cluster.

The problem I have is, that I don't know where is the root of this
problem and if recreating would fix the issue in longer terms.

Hello everybody,

First I will write down the problems I had with upgrading, so you get a bigger
picture:

engine update when fine
But nodes I could not update because of wrong version of imgbase, so I did a
manual update to 4.5.0.1 and later to 4.5.0.2. First time after updating it was
still booting into 4.4.10, so I did a reinstall.
Then after second reboot I ended up in the emergency mode. After a long
searching I figure out that lvm.conf using use_devicesfile now but there it
uses the wrong filters. So I comment out this and add the old filters back.
This procedure I have done on all 3 nodes.

When use_devicesfile (default in 4.5) is enabled, lvm filter is not
used. During installation
the old lvm filter is removed.

Can you share more info on why it does not work for you?

The problem was, that the node could not mount the gluster volumes anymore and
ended up in emergency mode.

Yes I know, it was a bad workaround, but somehow debian had issues with
auto mount cifs. I fix it now with enabling
systemd-networkd-wait-online, but after I had to override the nginx
service to, to wait for network-online.target.

No everything by hand.

Any chance there is another system (outside oVirt ?) with the same MAC ?

you can run arping and check if you get response from more than 1 system.

I have check that to, but no the mac is unique.

The problem with " ifup: failed to bring up enp1s0" I could also solve
and I think it has nothing to do with the problem. I used a custom
script in /etc/network/if-up.d/ for mounting my fstab correctly.

[ovirt-users] Mount Export Domain only temporary

2021-06-23 Thread jb

Hello community,

We use a NFS export domain for full backups. Sometimes I have to restart
the NFS file server, but when I just restart that server, without doing
anything in oVirt (I guess normally I should put the domain in
maintenance mode), it can happen that hosts and VMs a crashing.

I had one time even the issue, that after a crash one XFS file system on
one host got damage and I had to fix that.

My though was now, because I make only one time a week a VM full backup,
I only mount the export domain in this time.

Is there an easy way to do this, with the API? Or would you have a other
hint, how to solve this issue?

[ovirt-users] Creating Snapshots failed

2021-05-27 Thread jb

Hello Community,

since I upgrade our cluster to ovirt 4.4.6.8-1.el8 I'm not able anymore
to create snapshots on certain VMs. For example I have two debian 10
VMs, from one I can make a snapshot, and from other one not.

Both are up to date and uses the same qemu-guest-agent versions.

I tried to create snapshots over API and on web gui, both gives the same
result.

In the attachment you found a snipped from the engine.log.

Any help would be wonderful!

Can I enable the CentOS-Linux-AppStream.repo + CentOS-Linux-BaseOS.repo
repos or will this cause issues when we update the node ?

AFAIK it shouldn't break anything. ovirt repos have newer versions, so
anything required by ovirt should be installed from ovirt repo during upgrade.
I made the experience that after installing a upgrade, everything which
I installed from that repos disappear.

You can try it with: virsh -c

domcapabilities

For the error message no capabibilities is missing, it said bad cpu
type but did not change it.

"Host CPU type is not compatible with Cluster Properties."

Hi Lionel,

could you please run the following command on the non responsive host?

virsh domcapabilities

Also, could you please go to the Webadmin UI and check the warning
signs on the host list and host detail to see, what flags is the host
missing? You can also check the CPU Type on the host's detail page +
all available cpus in the info icon next to it.

not sure.
4.5 cluster level adds IceLake which is Gen10, that should work with
CentOS 8.3 newly.

It could be that your particular model is something in between…

Either way, if you really do need every feature from the CPU and
you’re willing to sacrifice migration compatibility you can always use
CPU host passthrough. Then it ignores any compatibility and just uses
everything it can(everything that KVM supports) from the underlying CPU

No I don't need every feature. My concern was mostly, if I will have any
performance downsides in normal scenarios.

but yours seems to be CofeeLake (8th gen) which is not really

what your version is, so I don’t know for sure…

It’s usually a compromise between what the hardware has and what has
been implemented just yet

[ovirt-users] Re: difference between CPU server and client family

2020-12-09 Thread jb
Thanks Michal for the explanation. I will dive in this article and see
if I understand it :-).

I use here the latest 4.4.3.12 Version. So I can hope, that newer
version will support my CPUs better :).

Best regards

Jonathan

what your version is, so I don’t know for sure…

It’s usually a compromise between what the hardware has and what has
been implemented just yet

[ovirt-users] difference between CPU server and client family

2020-12-08 Thread jb

Hello,

is there a big difference between *Secure Intel Skylake Server Family*
CPUs and *Secure Intel Skylake Client Family* CPUs.

I ask because I use a Intel Xeon E-2246G in our servers and when I
install the cluster, the client cpu model was automatically selected.
I'm not sure now if it makes a different, when I change the cluster cpu
type to the server model and if this is possible with this cpu.

Best regards

Jonathan

[ovirt-users] easy way to migrate to new engine

2020-11-16 Thread jb

Hello everybody!

At the moment I have here a standalone engine and two nodes. Storage
type is NFS.

Now I want to setup a 3 node self hosted cluster with Glusterfs and
import my VMs from the old engine.

I know, there is a guide for migration from standalone to self-hosted
engine, but there is so many changes (new Subnet/DNS names, different
type of storage, new CPU type) that I would like to skip this migration
guide.

Is there a different way to migrate my VMs? Mounting my old storage and
moving the disks to the Gluster would be nice, but I guess I can not
just mount a storage with existing VM images.

[ovirt-users] Re: Upgrade Host Compatibility Version

2020-10-07 Thread jb

Sorry, last time I didn't answer to the mailing list...

Here are the output: *CentOS Linux release 8.2.2004 (Core)*

I use the kernel-plus, because of an old raid controller. Can this be a
problem?

Thanks Jonathan
Can you tell me what is the OS version of the host that you're using?
(cat /etc/redhat-release)

Hello Dana,

I added a second host, and tried again, without success.

The error is unspecific, it just says: *Upgrade of cluster default
failed.*

Here the engine.log

[ovirt-users] Revert to 4.3

2020-07-13 Thread jb

Hello everybody,

at to moment I run ovirt engine in a VM on a different server (no hosted
engine) and I have two hosts. One is only a backup and is not running.

I would like to install a new ovirt engine 4.4 VM and use the backup
host. And if this is running fine in some month I would migrate the
second host to 4.4.

The Problem is only that I have to upgrade the data center compatibly
mode to 4.4 and with that I'm a bit afraid.

Is it possible, to downgrade the compatibility mode, when something
unsuspected is happen?

The original 4.3 engine VM I would like to have untouched, that I can go
back if is necessary.

Regards

Jonathan
