Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply.

I did install ovirt-release43 before I install the
ovirt-node-ng-image-update package.

Here is the brief procedure:

1. Install the 4.2.8 ovirt host on CentOS7.6 by adding the node from
AdminPortal.

2. Upgrade ovirt 4.2.8 engine to 4.3.6.

3. Set the host to maintainence from AdminPortal.

ovirt-engine-appliance-4.3-20190610.1.el7.x86_64.rpm?

You might want to check the project's source code:

https://github.com/ovirt/ovirt-appliance/
<https://github.com/ovirt/ovirt-appliance/>

Or study the logs of a CI build of it:

https://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/ovirt-appliance_master_build-artifacts-el7-x86_64/
<https://jenkins.ovirt.org/job/ovirt-appliance_master_build-artifacts-el7-x86_64/>

I never tried building it myself locally, though.

I tried to build after checked out the source code from
https://github.com/ovirt/ovirt-appliance/
<https://github.com/ovirt/ovirt-appliance/>,

but the build failed.

I tried to import ovirt-engine-appliance
ova(ovirt-engine-appliance-4.3-20190610.1.el7.ova) from ovirt-engine, but I got
error as following:
Failed to load VM configuration from OVA file:
/var/tmp/ovirt-engine-appliance-4.2-20190121.1.el7.ova

No idea why this failed.

I guess ovirt-engine-appliance-4.2-20190121.1.el7.ova has more than CentOS7.6.

It has CentOS + oVirt engine.

The only major use for it is by hosted-engine --deploy. In theory you
can try importing it elsewhere, but I do not recall reports about
people that tried this and whether it works.

Are you trying to extract and put it into another virtualization. If

Yes, I am trying to build ova with different OS.

What do you mean install it as standalone engine?

install VM first then install as ovirt engine?

So , in the ova there should be a template VM + the xml config (cpus,

2019-03-21 Thread jingjie . jiang
1. create Windows guest from oVirt 4.2.8 env with IDE virtual disk interface
2. follow the instruction from
https://community.redhat.com/blog/2015/05/how-to-install-and-use-ovirts-windows-guest-tools/
 installed the virtio drivers and ovirt guest agent.
3. Shutdown Windows guest and switch the virtual disk from IDE to virtio-scsi
4. Run the Windows guest and it boot up fine.
5. Shutdown Windows guest and switch the virtual disk to virtio
6. Run the Windows guest but it failed to boot up.

7. Switch the boot disk to virtio-scsi and attach another virtual disk as
virtio to Windows guest
8. Boot the system up and make sure that viostor driver is installed.
9 switch the boot virtual disk interface to virtio.
10. Boot the Windows guest and it boot up OK.

I was wondering the installer of virtio drivers cover the case of install
vioscsi driver even without virtio-scsi device but not for virtio device.
Would the dev-team mind confirm?

We use this for reducing volumes to optimal size after merging

we don't report this value to engine.

Is there a choice  to create vm disk with format qcow2 instead
of raw?

Not for LUNs, only for images.

The available formats in 4.3 are documented here:

https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/incremental-backup.html#disk-format

incremental means you checked the checkbox "Enable incremental
backup" when creating a disk.
But note that the fact that we will create qcow2 image is
implementation detail and the behavior
may change in the future. For example, qemu is expected to provide
a way to do incremental
backup with raw volumes, and in this case we may create a raw
volume instead of qcow2 volume.
(actually raw data volume and qcow2 metadata volume).

If you want to control the disk format, the only way is via the
REST API or SDK, where you can
specify the format instead of allocation policy. However even if
you specify the format in the SDK
the system may chose to change the format when copying the disk to
another storage type. For
example if you copy qcow2/sparse image from block storage to file
storage the system will create
a raw/sparse image.

If you desire to control the format both from the UI and REST
API/SDK and ensure that the system
will never change the selected format please file a bug explaining
the use case.

Hi,

I am new in oVirt and I'd like to get the clarification about the
packages which support the function of Window guest agent from 4.2
release and how to build it.

Welcome to oVirt community!
The Windows Guest Agent is shipped within the Windows Guest Tools ISO.
The reference documentation page is [1]
https://ovirt.org/documentation/vmm-guide/chap-Installing_Windows_Virtual_Machines/
The feature documentation page is [2]
https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/integration/windows-guest-tools/
If you have issues while following above [1] please check if [2] solve
your issue and open a ticket on
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-site/issues reporting any trouble you
had following the documentation page.

I looked through the document from ovirt.org <http://ovirt.org>,
such as

https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/internal/guest-agent/guest-agent-for-windows/

It mentioned:

/With the release of oVirt 3.5 we have introduced the oVirt WGT
(Windows Guest Tools)./

//

/The oVirt WGT provides an ISO with all the tools and drivers one
needs to install on a Windows VM, with an easy to use installer to
install it all in one step./

//

/So manual compilation and installation of oVirt Guest Agent is no
longer necessary./

//

/The oVirt WGT ISO is included in
//ovirt-guest-tools-iso-3.5-7.noarch.rpm

<http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.5/rpm/fc20/noarch/ovirt-guest-tools-iso-3.5-7.noarch.rpm>//package./

Now, ovirt-guest-tools-iso is up to 4.2.4. I found the src rpm
from

https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.2/rpm/el7/SRPMS/ovirt-guest-tools-iso-4.2-4.el7.src.rpm,
but I could not find ovirt-guest-tools-iso from github, only found
ovirt-wgt.

After clone the ovirt-wgt, I got the SPICE-tools-0.141.iso built.

My question is :

1. Is ovirt-wgt used for Windows guest?

ovirt-wgt is a project for building the oVirt Guest Tools ISO and its
wrapping RPM. It contains VirtIO Windows drivers, SPICE drivers, QEMU
Guest Agent and oVirt Guest Agent.

2. If so, how can I build ovirt-guest-tools-iso package or
ovirt-tools-setup.iso

You don't really need to, but if you want to do that:
$ sudo yum install
https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release42.rpm

$ git clone https://gerrit.ovirt.org/ovirt-wgt
$ cd ovirt-wgt
$ yum install `cat automation/build-artifacts.packages`
$ automation/build-artifacts.sh

should do the build.

By following your instruction, I had ovirt-wgt build work, but it
required ovirt-guest-agent-windows package.
I tried to build ovirt-guest-agent-windows from ovirt-guest-agent (git
clone https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-guest-agent.git), failed with the
error message attached.

I was wondering if the build env missed libs or packages. I run the
build from Linux env(Fedora), could it be an issue?

Would you mind send me the build instruction?

Thanks,
Jingjie

Current builds are available:
https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.2/iso/oVirt-toolsSetup/4.2-4.el7/
https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.2/rpm/el7/noarch/ovirt-guest-tools-iso-4.2-4.el7.noarch.rpm

Thanks,

Jingjie

[ovirt-users] About Windows guest agent

2018-11-20 Thread Jingjie Jiang

Hi,

I am new in oVirt and I'd like to get the clarification about the
packages which support the function of Window guest agent from 4.2
release and how to build it.

I looked through the document from ovirt.org, such as

https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/internal/guest-agent/guest-agent-for-windows/

It mentioned:

/With the release of oVirt 3.5 we have introduced the oVirt WGT (Windows
Guest Tools)./

//

/The oVirt WGT provides an ISO with all the tools and drivers one needs
to install on a Windows VM, with an easy to use installer to install it
all in one step./

//

/So manual compilation and installation of oVirt Guest Agent is no
longer necessary./

//

/The oVirt WGT ISO is included in
//ovirt-guest-tools-iso-3.5-7.noarch.rpm
//package./

Now, ovirt-guest-tools-iso is up to 4.2.4. I found the src rpm from
https://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-4.2/rpm/el7/SRPMS/ovirt-guest-tools-iso-4.2-4.el7.src.rpm,
but I could not find ovirt-guest-tools-iso from github, only found
ovirt-wgt.

After clone the ovirt-wgt, I got the SPICE-tools-0.141.iso built.

My question is :

1. Is ovirt-wgt used for Windows guest?

2. If so, how can I build ovirt-guest-tools-iso package or
ovirt-tools-setup.iso

Thanks,

Jingjie
