[ovirt-users] Cannot activate a Storage Domain after an oVirt crash

2021-09-15 Thread nicolas

Hi,

We're running oVirt 4.3.8 and we recently had a oVirt crash after moving
too much disks between storage domains.

Concretely, one of the Storage Domains reports status "Unknown",
"Total/Free/Guaranteed free spaces" are "[N/A]".

After trying to activate it in the Domain Center we see messages like
these from all of the hosts:

VDSM hostX command GetVGInfoVDS failed: Volume Group does not exist:
(u'vg_uuid: Usi3y8-S4eq-EXtl-FA58-MA3K-b4vE-4d9SCp',)

I tried putting the Storage Domain in maintenance and it fails with
messages like:

Storage Domain iaasb13 (Data Center KVMRojo) was deactivated by
system because it's not visible by any of the hosts.
Failed to update OVF disks 8661acd1-d1c4-44a0-a4d4-ddee834844e9, OVF
data isn't updated on those OVF stores (Data Center KVMRojo, Storage
Domain iaasb13).
Failed to update VMs/Templates OVF data for Storage Domain iaasb13
in Data Center KVMRojo.

I'm sure the storage domain backend is up and running, and the LUN being
exported.

Any hints how can I debug this problem and restore the Storage Domain?

Thanks.

[ovirt-users] Re: 2-node with FC Storage

2021-09-15 Thread jorgevisentini
Hey man, what's up?

So... I use 4 FC cables (2 per controller) connected from Storage to FC Switch.
From this FC Switch I connect my hosts with 4 FC cables.
The more cables from Storage to Switch, the more throughout you will get.

That way I can use multipath. So when I drop an FC cable or a Storage
controller, I wouldn't lose connection.
In this way it is also possible to use all virtualization technologies, such as
LUN migration between Storage and/or Live Migration.

An example of multipath:

[ovirt-users] host upgrade problems galore

2021-09-15 Thread Diggy Mc
Brief background: Simple environment -- self-hosted engine and two oVirt Node
hosts all running 4.4.4. Couple NFS-based data storage domains and a few
VLAN-based networks.

Upgrading the Hosted Engine from 4.4.4 to 4.4.8 appears to have completed
successfully and without incident. I followed the published instructions. :)

Problems upgrading the oVirt Node hosts !!!

Initialized cluster upgrade. It got as far as rebooting the first host.
ERRORS. Said "vdsmd... BAD" Found journal log entry suggesting I run a vdsm
config command. Did that and rebooted. VDSM error went away and all looked
good. Unfortunately VMs started on that host now were clearly unstable. Ugh!
Unusable host.

Removed that host from the cluster. Reinstalled from scratch using the 4.4.8
ISO. All went well. Added it to the cluster and deployed the HE to it. No
Errors. Unfortunately, it is now stuck in a NonOperational state and I cannot
determine why.

Please help.

You can now discard this thread !!!

Prior to creating this thread, I also tried to copy the networks from another
functioning host thinking that might be needed. Did not get any errors for the
copy function, but the networks were not copied.

That's when started this thread.

Since then, I said, "fck it" and decided to try something while waiting for
help.

I manually added the networks to the rebuilt host. Suddenly (and apparently
magically) it is now in Up state.

2021-09-15 Thread Edward Berger
In case you decide to try again or for other oVirt users, who see similar
issues

When 'required' networks for the cluster aren't there, or shared storage is
unreachable, the host is put into non-operational state.

oVirt engine wants to handle the network configs for the hypervisors.
The required networks should be configured in the engine's "setup host
networks" for the new host.

When you add a new hypervisor host to the oVirt cluster, by default it
doesn't set up 'required networks',
and doing things behind the engine's back isn't a good idea because it
doesn't know which logical network
should be connected to which network interface.

If you forget to tell your shared storage to allow access from the new host
it will also cause non-operational state.

One path per controller though its own switch is usually enough.

I install multiple links between storage and switches, to increase the
bandwidth of that link. But I've never done that between switches and hosts.

Link A from host to Switch A to Storage Controller A

Link B from host to Switch B to Storage Controller B

I tried it, and I can import the json after replace the 4.4 with 4.3, but still
have some errors like this:

Many of the other reports worked fine, with only a few similar errors.

Is this caused by version incompatibility?

After all, 4.4 in the original document was replaced with 4.3 before the import.

Hi Marko,

I've tested this myself as I like playing with various Grafana use-cases and
following steps allow you to set up Grafana Monitoring for your oVirt 4.3
environment and re-use all Grafana Dashboards from latest oVirt 4.4 on a
previous release.

1. Allowing Grafana to connect to oVirt DWH database (Data Warehouse)

Login to the oVirt engine 4.3 and create a user "grafana" with password
"grafana" that will get a read-only access to the ovirt_engine_history database
and will be able to use public schema

# su - postgres -c 'scl enable rh-postgresql10 bash'

# psql -U postgres -c "CREATE ROLE grafana WITH LOGIN ENCRYPTED PASSWORD
'grafana';" -d ovirt_engine_history

# psql -U postgres -c "GRANT CONNECT ON DATABASE ovirt_engine_history TO
grafana;"

# psql -U postgres -c "GRANT USAGE ON SCHEMA public TO grafana;"
ovirt_engine_history

Generate the rest of the permissions that will be granted to the newly created
user and save them to a file:

# psql -U postgres -c "SELECT 'GRANT SELECT ON ' || relname || ' TO grafana;'
FROM pg_class JOIN pg_namespace ON pg_namespace.oid = pg_class.relnamespace
WHERE nspname = 'public' AND relkind IN ('r', 'v');" --pset=tuples_only=on
ovirt_engine_history > grant.sql

Use the file you created in the previous step to grant permissions to the newly
created user:

# psql -U postgres -f grant.sql ovirt_engine_history

Remove the file you used to grant permissions:

# rm grant.sql

Exit the postgres user shell by pressing Ctrl+d

Add the following lines for the newly created user to
/var/opt/rh/rh-postgresql10/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf preceding the line
beginning local all all

hostovirt_engine_history grafana 0.0.0.0/0 md5

hostovirt_engine_history grafana ::0/0   md5

Reload postgres service

# systemctl reload rh-postgresql10-postgresql

2. Installing Grafana

You can install Grafana directly on the oVirt Engine machine (this is how it's
done in oVirt 4.4) or on a separate machine. Following steps shows how you can
install Grafana on a Oracle Linux 7 server. Note: Oracle provides Grafana in
the OLCNE yum repository - you only need to install the repository definition
package to pickup Grafana and it's dependencies.

# yum install oraclelinux-release-el7

# yum install oracle-olcne-release-el7

# yum-config-manager --enable ol7_optional_latest ol7_olcne11

# yum install grafana

# systemctl enable --now grafana-server

3. Adding oVirt DWH database as Data Source in Grafana

Login to Grafana (default port 3000) and navigate to Configuration ->
DataSources and click on Add Data Source button.

Select PostgreSQL source and use the following settings (adjust the Host IP
address to match your oVirt Engine IP but do not change the Name):

Name: oVirt DWH

Host: your-engine-ip-address:5432

user: grafana

pass: grafana

SSL mode: disable
