Hi Everybody,

We are happy to accounce the publication of a virtual machine - ZEG like -
named SOSI (Samba4 OpenChange Sogo iGestis). You can download it from our
tutorial page available here :
http://iabsis.com/EN/article/35-1/Virtual-machine

Don't hesitate to let me a comment on the website or by mail if something
work or not.

Best regards.

 Hi Everybody

Once again, I have updated my documentation available at
 http://iabsis.com/EN/article/35/Samba4-and-OpenChange-on-a-Debian-or-Ubuntu-server/

The update bring the following fixed :

- Add the configuration to do with Cyrus (recommanded).
- Fixed small stuff.

I'm preparing still the z-push connection but I have now way to install
some dependancy, anybody as already made this process?

Don't hesitate to let me a comment on the website or by mail if something
 work or not.

 Best regards.

 Hi,

I'm not sure OpenChange can work on a separate server than Sogo. To
secure your installation, you could installation imap+smtp on a separate
server even I don't recommand as you will probably loose some performances.

Of course, your installation NEEDS a firewall so then just open port 80
and 443 as this is enought to use Outlook and Sogo webmail (and eventually
 port 25).

About samba, you have to use 4.0.1 that is present in inverse repo, it
shouldn't be to different with 4.0.6.

For about the tutorial, you can read the Outlook configuration under First
 account creationhttp://iabsis.com/EN/article/35-8/First-account-creation
 in the tutorial.

 Best regards.

 Olivier.

 Hi Olivier,

dont you think its better to install samba+openchange separate from
sogo+imap+smtp?because if you gonna give your users external access from
internet to their email accounts via sogo web interface its not good idea
to public local users data(Active Directory) on a server that you want to
public it on internet, yes you can use firewall to filter access but i
decide to install them on two separate server.

On the other hand samba version on inverse repo are old and
configuration from samba4-alpha to 4.0.6 has changed TOO Much.

Even not bad to add a section for setting up thunderbird or outlook !

 thanks

install Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo on Ubuntu/Debian, available at
 http://iabsis.com/FR/article/35/Installation-de-Samba4-et-Openchange-sur-un-serveur-Debian-ou-Ubuntu/

 (only available in french yet).

Basically, you can build your self a ZEG machine, but with Share/Domain
Controller working, withtout OpenLDAP (only one directory on Samba4), and
simplified way to create users. Also I only use packages provided by
 inverse.ca to install the softwares.

I'll very happy if you can test and let comments.

Hi All

First of all I want to thank Oliver for the great tutorial.

I followed it step by step and successfully installed a Samba4 Server and
OpenChange. After that I had no problems to join my domain with my Win8
PC. Everything worked fine. I installed the Win Admin Tools and had no
issues with adding users to the domain and also set them up as local
users.

DNS worked great, so I tried the next step. I installed SOGo and after
that nothing worked at all.

I allways get an error message:

Naming information cannot be located because:
The RPC Server is unavailable. Contact your system administrators ...

I tried to solve the problem by adding my server to the hosts file. But no
success.

Any ideas to solve this problem? I would provide logging information if I
only knew which.

Also I didn't get the link where to create the user for SOGo, openchange
and Samba4 if I don't want to use iGestis.

I would appreciate any hints.

But I also need help on another topic.
I am now able to connect to the OpenChange Server using outlook. But what

email server to use and how to get the email into the OpenChange server.

Hi all

I think I am very Close.

I've got openchange running, samba4, sogo but didn't manage to logon.

I always got the following error message:

I have no idea what it is meant with Password policy: 65535. I have
checked on the LDAP query. The path cn=cdelellis,cn=users,dc=1blu,dc=de is
correct. I checked that using Ldp on my Windows machine. So could anyone
please tell me where the misconfiguration is and what to do.

Thankx in advance.

I tried to narrow down the problem a bit.

Whenever I start the Apache Web Server the RPC Error comes up. I am then
neither able to connect to the AD Managment nor I am able to connect via
 Outlook.

But I also need help on another topic.
I am now able to connect to the OpenChange Server using outlook. But what
I don't understand where do I get the link to my mailboxes. Let's say for
example I want to use postfix and dovecot where do I tell the system which
email server to use and how to get the email into the OpenChange server.

 Any help appreciated.

 Hi All

First of all I want to thank Oliver for the great tutorial.

I followed it step by step and successfully installed a Samba4 Server
 and
OpenChange. After that I had no problems to join my domain with my
 Win8

 But
 no
 success.

Any ideas to solve this problem? I would provide logging information
 if
 I
 only knew which.

Also I didn't get the link where to create the user for SOGo,
 openchange
and Samba4 if I don't want to use iGestis.

 I would appreciate any hints.

Hi Steven,

You probably forgot to change the Administrator bind, make that :

su - sogo -s /bin/bash

defaults write sogod SOGoUserSources '({CNFieldName = displayName;
IDFieldName = cn; UIDFieldName = sAMAccountName; IMAPHostFieldName =; baseDN
= cn=Users,dc=domain,dc=local;

bindDN = cn=Administrator,cn=Users,dc=domain,dc=local; bindPassword =
pass5678;

canAuthenticate = YES; displayName = Shared Addresses; hostname =
localhost; id = public; isAddressBook = YES; port = 389;})'

exit

/etc/init.d/sogo restart

Don't forgot to change bindPassword and bindDN.

No, it's not missing, it's only in the optional step igestis :

http://iabsis.com/EN/article/35-7/Installation-d-iGestis-optionnel

You can add igestis repository and install pam-mkhomedir package, or

/usr/share/pam-configs/ and run again pam-auth-update.

I think there is one thing missing from pam configuration. It is this line
session required pam_mkhomedir.so

Which creates a home directory if it doesn't exist for the new user in AD
after authentication.

What do you think Olivier?

Hi Steven,

You probably forgot to change the Administrator bind, make that :

su - sogo -s /bin/bash
defaults write sogod SOGoUserSources '({CNFieldName = displayName;
IDFieldName = cn; UIDFieldName = sAMAccountName; IMAPHostFieldName =;
baseDN = cn=Users,dc=domain,dc=local;
bindDN = cn=Administrator,cn=Users,dc=domain,dc=local; bindPassword =
pass5678;
canAuthenticate = YES; displayName = Shared Addresses; hostname =
localhost; id = public; isAddressBook = YES; port = 389;})'
exit
/etc/init.d/sogo restart

Don't forgot to change bindPassword and bindDN.

Olivier.

Very happy to heart that, I hold the invitation in australia :P

Is it possible to provide my the log file for /var/log/samba/log.samba and
 /var/log/sogo/sogo.log during the tries.

 Thanks

 Olivier.

 G’day Oliver,

 ** **

I have followed your tutorial, first up you are a legend – if you come to
Australia, Perth I will buy you a beer.

Easy to follow, I have got my Win 7 Test machine connected to the domain,
Igestis works great, only 1 issue.

 ** **

 Issue:

 ** **

I can log in to the domain controlled windows 7 machine using username
set by igestis – sjswarts – I can find my server in outlook, is underlined
and my set email address is populated correctly. But when Outlook tries to
connect to the default folders it fails with this error:

 ** **

*“Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft
Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize you folders
with your Outlook data file (.ost)”*

 * *

I also cannot log in to http://*server*ip/SOGo with the same username.
The authentication side works (if I put random name and password it says
authentication failure) but it can’t find the username – sjswarts

 ** **

Any help would be very much appreciated,

 ** **

 Thank you

We identified the bug. MySQL's TEXT data type is limited to 2^16 - 1 =

 corrupted).

We'll commit a fix shortly and provide an upgrade script (2.0.4 to 2.0.5)
to adjust the data type for all tables accordingly.

Re: [SOGo] Re: New Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo tutorial

2013-03-05 Thread Olivier Bitsch
It seems that you tried to join with rweissmann username? You have to use
the Administrator account in the windows credential when joining the
domain.

Additionally, the entry /var/lib/samba/passdb.tdb is probably not used by
Samba4 as this file is used when Samba4 uses the old tdb has backend (now
it uses an OpenLDAP fork).

Best regards.

as main DNS server?

If still not, please try :

   - Stop Samba4 services, check there is no smbd or samba process working

   - Start Samba4 again.
   - Check /var/log/samba/log.samba (smbd is used by samba3 process).

Also, can you give me your /var/log/samba/log.samba file?

Forgot to answer that, sorry - yes, there is only one DNS server in the
ipv4 settings on the Win 7 client!

If still not, please try :

   * Stop Samba4 services, check there is no smbd or samba process
 working (killall smbd killall samba).
   * Start Samba4 again.
   * Check /var/log/samba/log.samba (smbd is used by samba3 process).

Also, can you give me your /var/log/samba/log.samba file?

 Thanks

 Olivier.

Additionally, the entry /var/lib/samba/passdb.tdb is probably not

I suppose there is some good reasons to install or not install from package
your server. That I tried to provide is a way to have a working server
without to install a huge of developer package necessary to compile the
system and have a fast way to install and deploy in case you have several
server to install (samba4 take a little bit time to compile).

I understand that the actual packages provided by Inverse for Samab4 are a
little bit buggy (it seems there are some missing librairies), but it's
already a good start in the wait that distro includes them natively in
their distributions.

Best regards.

Olivier,

thank you for your hard work putting this tutorial together! And iGestis looks
really promising. Keep up the good work! I will for certain keep an eye open
for your product.

Regarding Tims error; I ran in to the same errors. And I think it is a product
of installing both Samba3 and Samba4. As Ubuntu has chosen to start Samba3 with
Upstart and so has Inverse, both packages seem to collide and Samba3 gets
precedence. I think the errors originates from Samba3 not recognising certain
Samba4 parameters. During my installation I skipped installing Samba3-packages
and went for Samba4. No errors.

The vfs acl_attr.so error during domain provision is not present after
following your instructions regarding Impossible to access in Samba4 shares.
Thank you!

And the correction of /etc/init.d/sogo works like a charm. Thank you.

In your tutorial, I think you can skip the part about Samba3 and replace it
with: apt-get install samba4 winbind4 krb5-user. And stress the fact to
reprovision the Samba4 AD.

My steps:
1. Install acl and attr: apt-get install acl attr
2. Edit /etc/fstab: add acl,user_xattr to root mountpoint. Reboot.
3. Install samba4 according to your known issues.
4. Stop Samba4.
5. Delete /etc/samba/smb.conf, rm -R /var/lib/samba/private/*, rm -R
/var/lib/samba/sysvol/*
6. Provision a new AD: samba-tool domain provision --domain=EXAMPLE
--adminpass=Pa$$w0rd --dns-backend=SAMBA_INTERNAL --server-role=dc
--function-level=2008_R2 --use-xattr=yes --use-rfc2307 --realm=EXAMPLE.COM
7. Stop Samba4 and install Samba4 from Inverse: apt-get install samba4 winbind4

8. Start Samba4.

2013-03-04 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions Davor,

I will add the acl, user_xattr has this is very useful for fine tuning the
folder rights from Samba4.

I think that this way is not the cleaner way to install Samba4, but package
version doesn't provide the smbd and some missing librairies. That why I
used Samba3 (it seems this is the official way), but as mentioned, it's not
working all time.

I will thing about the next step, may be provide fixed packages with
missing files.

Thanks again and good luck for the next.

I've been following these instructions (thanks, by the way!). But I'm not
getting past the Samba installation successfully. When I try to join the

password. I'm pretty sure the culprit is that Samba 3.6.3 is running
instead of 4.0.X. That's what being indicated when I run smbclient -L

I have tried removing Samba3 from starting per the instructions, but it
doesn't seem to work.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong? I'm using Ubuntu 12.04

Can reinstall samba3 (backup your smb.conf before), restore you smb.conf
(probably overrided by samba3), kill all samba processes (smbd and samba)
and then give me the output of samba -i -d 3.

Best regards.

[SOGo] Re: New Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo tutorial

2013-03-01 Thread Olivier Bitsch
Hi all,

In order to have almost the perfect server, and updated again the tutorial
available at :
http://iabsis.com/EN/article/35/Samba4-and-OpenChange-on-a-Debian-or-Ubuntu-server/
The update bring the following tweak :

   - Less step to create a new user, ability to create from iGestis.
   - New iGestis update available today to version 2.3.3.

For those that already have iGestis installed on their server, simply made
apt-get update apt-get upgrade to have the latest version. Keep your
configuration file if asked, and add the following line as is somewhere in
/etc/igestis/ConfigIgestisGlobalVars.php (don't try to change %username% by
something) :

const LDAP_USER_RDN = cn=%username%;

Don't hesitate to let me comments.

Best regards and have a good weekend.

Olivier.

 Hi all,

I just finished to write a tutorial in order to
install Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo on Ubuntu/Debian, available at
 http://iabsis.com/FR/article/35/Installation-de-Samba4-et-Openchange-sur-un-serveur-Debian-ou-Ubuntu/

 Best regards.

 Olivier.

Thank you Olivier. I think your guide is very useful even for people who
have it installed from sources. I have finished my install, works liek a
charm with full features all stable.

Nice guide.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Re: [SOGo] Re: New Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo tutorial

2013-03-01 Thread Dirk Werner
Hi Olivier,

this erased the problem with

array(4) { [type]= int(1) [message]= string(57) Call to a member
function module_access() on a non-object [file]= string(48)
/usr/share/igestis/includes/common_librairie.php [line]= int(838) }

I don't have that anymore!

But I still see as result page an Error:

Oops, iGestis encountered a fatal error.
In order to fix the issue :

Change the variable DEBUG_MODE to true in the file
/usr/share/igestis/index.php
Change the variable display_errors to On in the file apache
configuration (usually in /etc/apache2/conf)
Check the logs for Apache or iGestis (usually in
/var/log/igestis/igestis.log and /var/log/apache2/error.log)

The igestis log files are not being logged anymore, they don't change
when accessing igestis and there is also nothing in apache2 logs.

Best regards
Dirk

 Hi all,

I just finished to write a tutorial in order to
 install Samba4/OpenChange/Sogo on Ubuntu/Debian, available
 at
 http://iabsis.com/FR/article/35/Installation-de-Samba4-et-Openchange-sur-un-serveur-Debian-ou-Ubuntu/

 (only available in french yet).

Basically, you can build your self a ZEG machine, but with
Share/Domain Controller working, withtout OpenLDAP (only one
directory on Samba4), and simplified way to create users. Also I
only use packages provided by inverse.ca http://inverse.ca to
 install the softwares.

I'll very happy if you can test and let comments.

 Best regards.

Just a question, did you tried iGestis? We are working hard to have
something stable and compliant with Samba4 in order to have an easy way to
manage users and more stuff from a user friendly interface.

Thank you Olivier. I think your guide is very useful even for people who
have it installed from sources. I have finished my install, works liek a
charm with full features all stable.

 Nice guide.

 Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Olivier,
I'm having fun following your tutorial, nice work! I just got stuck at
the installation point 'apt-get install igestis' - this wants to install
the following packages:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  dbconfig-common igestis libdbd-mysql-perl libmcrypt4 mysql-client-5.5
mysql-client-core-5.5 mysql-server mysql-server-5.5
  mysql-server-core-5.5 php5-ldap php5-mcrypt php5-mysql
0 upgraded, 12 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.

Since I have chosen postgresql according to your tutorial, I'm a bit
helpless now with all those mysql packages coming.
Does igestis work together with postgresql, do I need mysql packages in
addition?

Best regards and thanks for your tutorial,
