i will try to set something up, the problem is that location is depending on how many wil come.. how about: 1. pick date & city 2. decide on venue depending on nr of attendees It's not like this is going to be the once in a lifetime Wicket event - I'd say it's more important to get this community meetup going than to discuss matters for a few more months to make sure have we a date and place to suit everyone's needs. regards, Wouter -- Wouter Huijnink Func. WicketOne does sound a bit more like the entire community though instead of just Netherlands.. So to get this rolling a bit further and toss some dates out there.. October 12th/13th is a Friday/Saturday this year It also seems to mark one year since "October 12th, 2006 - Wicket enters Apache Incubator" (Did we ever (in)formally party/celebrate the graduation?) Also since meetups seems like a community thing and to give it a bit more exposure.. Can we get a link from http://wicket.apache.org/community.html to http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/WICKET/Community+meetups Also once we establish dates.. Getting a link from the news/buzz/appropriate page to the event may help give it even more exposure.. Last quick idea and then I'll shut up.. /introduction.html has an abstract (list?) of reasons why you should use Wicket.. Well.. it's missing one of the most important ingredients in that there is a very supportive community.. ./C - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: Any interest in a Wicket User Group meeting in The Netherlands?
Hi Martijn, > Hmm, it starts to sound like a conference. No, no, absolutely.. That would be way too much. But it sounds like you could easily get 40 people in a room with a very simple 5 talks schedule. It really doesn't have to be a *conference*, it could be anything from a hackaton to a Barcamp or anything in between. If you stick to 2 hour sessions with only a very local audience, you're missing out on a lot of the Apache power! I apologize if I sound like a know-it-all, it's certainly not my intention to do so. But I'd be very much against a scattered set of 3-people meetups all across the globe if there's enough interest to bring all (or some) of them together in one room. But that's just my 2 cents. Again, I just like the idea of having a meetup and I'd really love to be there. So please sign me up. I promise I'll speak Dutch if you want me to :) Maybe it's an idea to setup a Wiki page where people can add their name so we really get some insight in how many people would actually be interested in joining such a meetup? Re: Any interest in a Wicket User Group meeting in The Netherlands?
Hmm, it starts to sound like a conference. I think we should temper the expectations a bit. This is our first get to gether, so having low expectations on what we will be doing is a good starting point. For the record, I have the idea of making this a (two/three)-monthly recurring event. This way we can build a local community and network of Wicket enthousiasts located in the vicinity of the Netherlands. Though if you don't mind to drive a couple of hours for a 2? hour event, I'm not holding you back :) Martijn On 9/12/07, Tom Desmet <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Hi, > > This would be a real great opportunity to gain some extra knowledge on the > framework, and to learn about the wicket plans for the future. > We are currently using wicket in our company, and wicket development is done > by 3 developers (Marieke Vandamme, Ann Baert) and myself, which post on this > list from time to time. > We are from the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, and coming to the > Netherlands to attend this event would certainly be no problem. > We would very much like to attend this event when and if it should occur. > > > Johan Compagner wrote: > > > > hi, > > > > I can organize one if there is enough interest > > Martijn and i will be there then. > > > > And for example if people are also interested in the wicket security i > > will > > also drag Maurice to the table. > > > > johan > > > > > > -- > View this message in context: > http://www.nabble.com/Any-interest-in-a-Wicket-User-Group-meeting-in-The-Netherlands--tf4401648.html#a12637398 > Sent from the Wicket - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. > > > - > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > -- Buy Wicket in Action: http://manning.com/dashorst Apache Wicket 1.3.0-beta3 is released Get it now: http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/wicket/1.3.0-beta3/ - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi, This would be a real great opportunity to gain some extra knowledge on the framework, and to learn about the wicket plans for the future. We are currently using wicket in our company, and wicket development is done by 3 developers (Marieke Vandamme, Ann Baert) and myself, which post on this list from time to time. We are from the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, and coming to the Netherlands to attend this event would certainly be no problem. We would very much like to attend this event when and if it should occur. RE: Any interest in a Wicket User Group meeting in The Netherlands?
Hi Johan, No problem. A slightly broader audience (not just Dutchies) might be good to open up the community (even further). Of course, this is exactly what ApacheCons are meant for, but the drawback is that it's hard to attract people from outside the Apache community that are simply interested in Wicket to attend the ApacheCon. I guess the low barrier for attending the Cocoon GetTogethers has helped growing the community quite a bit. OTOH, I might be getting a little too excited over here :) Anyway, sign me up for the event! :) Arjé > -Original Message- > From: Johan Compagner [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: woensdag 12 september 2007 14:50 > To: users@wicket.apache.org > Subject: Re: Any interest in a Wicket User Group meeting in > The Netherlands? > > i think that will be a bit to much for a first time user > group meeting that is more or less for dutch people (but > ofcourse everybody is welcome) > > johan > > > On 9/12/07, Arje Cahn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > > Hi there, > > > > Great to see that there's so much interest in a Wicket > meeting in The > > Netherlands! Hi there, Great to see that there's so much interest in a Wicket meeting in The Netherlands! I'll definitely be there! The Apache Cocoon community has been organizing its (very) succesful annual Cocoon GetTogether in Amsterdam for the last 2 years. I've been booking the rooms, wireless, lunch, etc, at the Felix Meritis building (Keizersgracht) for that. It's a really nice, scalable, inspiring, cheap and independent environment. See http://www.cocoongt.org/archive/2006/index.html for last year's edition. They have rooms from 10 to 200 people. With chairs, etc. Amsterdam has been a huge benefit since it's really cheap to fly to from all around the world. Any interest? Not that I don't want you coming to the user group, but wouldn't it be more beneficial for you to attend JavaPolis in december? I'll be presenting Wicket there, and we are going to organize a BoF. Hi list, Great idea! At Func. we'd also planned to suggest a usergroup meeting in the netherlands. We're more than willing to host the event - our office is situated opposite the Amsterdam Central Station: http://local.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=h&om=1&q=52.378566,4.896233+(Func.+Internet+Integration)&ll=52.378573,4.896233&spn=0.004139,0.010042&z=17&iwloc=addr We'll take care of food and drinks. Would it be a good idea to add a Community Events section to the wiki, where we can discuss the preferred date and register? Kind regards, Wouter -- Wouter Huijnink Func.
