Re: [xwiki-users] Failed to Save Error

2017-02-09 Thread Jesse Bright
So rather than undo the short url's on my existing server I decided it was time
to upgrade, a project I had put off for some time. I did not configure the new
server with short urls.

So I am now running the latest Ubuntu and Xwiki with the original database
migrated over and the issue persists. Based on this, my best guess is I
unknowingly changed permissions somehow but I don't know where to look. Any
advice or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for your help.

So I found a workaround to this issue by switching to the Postgres user. I am

[xwiki-users] Clean Install Distribution Wizard

2017-02-05 Thread Jesse Bright
I have a clean .deb install but when I access xwiki for the first time the
distribution wizard has no skin. The header velocity macro shows the raw
velocity code instead. I can proceed but then this issue persists in the wiki
created. Many features, especially on the admin screen are not accessible
because all the macros indicate that they failed. Cause [Null]. Any thoughts on
what would cause this on a blank install?

Re: [xwiki-users] Failed to Save Error

2017-02-01 Thread Jesse Bright
The error occurs with both "Save & Continue" and "Save & View", though if I
choose "Save & Continue" first it allows me to keep going after the error so I
can then press "Save & View" without generating the error since the page now
exists.

I checked the dev tools and it generated two errors.

1) SCRIPT1010: Expected identifier
2) SCRIPT7002: XMLHttpRequest: Error 0x8007005, Access is denied.

The first seems unrelated but the second seems to be the issue. The Microsoft
docs on this error mention API JSONP vs CORS support and calls to the REST API
but unfortunately I am reaching the limit of my current technical skills.
Thanks for your help so far, do you have any guidance for my next step?

[xwiki-users] Failed to Save Error

2017-01-31 Thread Jesse Bright
Whenever I save a new class (app?) based wiki page (blog, FAQ or custom app) I
get a red error at the bottom of the page that reads: "Failed to save the page.
Reason: Server not responding" The strange thing is the page did save. Other
than the error message nothing appears to be wrong.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this or where I should begin
troubleshooting?

Re: [xwiki-users] FAQ Tutorial - Custom Creation Form

2017-01-30 Thread Jesse Bright
I figured this out while fixing the live table. The tutorial code references
the class and template pages as "FAQ.FAQClass" and "FAQ.FAQTemplate". However
the pages actually created from the Class Editor wizard have a space: "FAQ.FAQ
Class" and "FAQ.FAQ Template". After adding the space everything is working as
expected. I may have made a mistake in following the tutorial but it didn't
feel like it. Perhaps the tutorial needs updated to reflect changes in the
Class Editor.

[xwiki-users] List with Checkboxes

2017-01-25 Thread Jesse Bright
I am making a several lists with tasks and associated checkboxes. The checkbox
data will not be stored or used in any way. It's only purpose is as a reminder
of tasks which have been completed.

My best idea for achieving this is to write a wiki macro using the HTML macro
to insert a checkbox input. However this means I have to develop list tabbing
behavior and write my macro reference repeatedly in each list space.

Does any one know of a better or easier way to create a checkbox list?

What kind of resources were allocated to your sever? The minimum values allowed

I tried Jelastic. The set up was very simple, all preconfigured and everything
worked fine. In the end I did not stay with Jelastic only because I did not
find that that they were competitively priced. Your mileage may vary.

Re: [xwiki-users] Macro Parameter as Array

2016-04-04 Thread Jesse Bright
Thomas and Vincent, thank you both for the feedback. If parameters supported
data type it would open up a lot of nice options for wiki macros but I can
manage without. It's easy enough to fake the Boolean type and the macro I
wanted to use arrays is just for building the site pages and not for production
use, so I can hard code my lists easy enough. Thanks again!

[xwiki-users] Image Reference Shortcut

2016-03-30 Thread Jesse Bright
I have pages which include the text: (i)
The Xwiki syntax is converting this into: image:icon:information

I have tried the following in an attempt to escape this text:
~(i~) which is completely ignored.
{{{(i)}}} which leaves only a blank space

Any suggestions on how I can get the desired plain text? Thanks for your time.

I had search for this before but without including 'velocity' in the search I

Re: [xwiki-users] Changing Global Text Style Settings

2016-03-19 Thread Jesse Bright
For the sake of completeness I thought I would report back that I did end up
editing the color theme to make my modifications except for the font size. All
the edits to the color theme worked great but for some reason changing the base
font size grossly enlarges the header size. Making this same change in the
variables.less file works as intended by enlarging text but leaving the other
element sizes alone.

Re: [xwiki-users] Changing Global Text Style Settings

2016-03-09 Thread Jesse Bright
Thanks for the idea. Using Chrome's inspect element to look at the CSS and a
little grepping in the skins folder; I found the file I was looking for here:

/usr/lib/xwiki/skins/flamingo/less/bootstrap/variables.less

Within this file you can easily update the preferred fonts and size, including
switching between sarif and sans-sarif font styles. I edited the file directly
but I suppose good form would be to use the skin override options to make the
change stick after an upgrade. Also I had to restart the tomcat server to get
the LESS to rebuild, though as I recall there is a more sophisticated way to
make that happen while the server is up.

Thanks again for your help!

Re: [xwiki-users] Changing Global Text Style Settings

2016-03-04 Thread Jesse Bright
Yes, I did. Unfortunately this appears to edit the entire wiki, as changes to
the size settings affect the header, etc. severely impacting the appearance of
the overall wiki such that I wonder how it could be useful. Adjusting the color
here does work but unfortunately color is not one of the properties I want to
alter.

I am still looking for an easier method to accomplish this change. In previous
versions of xwiki it appeared there were CSS files dedicated to each font style
which seemed relatively straight forward to edit or add new styles. Now that
xwiki uses LESS I don’t see equivalent files. Any additional advice is welcome.

Jesse

Re: [xwiki-users] I can't use my component anymore

2016-03-02 Thread Jesse Bright
Without knowing your setup it would be very difficult to tell you how to reset
your system. Personally I use a combination of Vagrant and Digitalocean to run
Xwiki independent of my personal computer. Vagrant uses Virtualbox to make a
local machine and is free. Digitalocean creates a VPS and is very cheap
($10/month). Both of these systems allow you to create a snapshot of your
system which you can restore to if you break things seriously.

Re: [xwiki-users] Minor editing by default

2016-03-01 Thread Jesse Bright
I am sure it is technically possible but I think it would be much more
difficult. All this modification does is change the default state of the 'Is
Minor' check box. Perhaps you can change the label and reverse the logic,
change = to != or something similar. However you may find other areas of Xwiki
that do not behave as expected afterward. For example, if you use History to
rollback a page it creates a new major change. Would this be affected by the
proposed change, who knows? I just recently started using Xwiki, I am sure
someone with more experience could give a more detailed explanation.

Regards,

Jesse

Re: [xwiki-users] Minor editing by default

2016-02-29 Thread Jesse Bright
I managed to do this with a recent install of version 7.4.2, so I know it is
possible. Here are my notes to self on how to do it:

Use the skins application to edit the default skin as indicated here:

http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Skin+Application

Administer Wiki>Loook & Feel>Presentation

Select Customize.
Overrided Templates Add 'editactions.vm'.
Navigate to /wiki/skins/flamingo/editactions.vm and copy the contents.
update the code as follows:
 #if($request.minorEdit)checked="checked"#endTO
 checked="checked"

Sorry my directions aren't better, I am the on the bus to work.

Jesse

Re: [xwiki-users] Include Macro Usage

2016-02-28 Thread Jesse Bright
Interestingly, explicitly stating .WebHome also fixed an issue I found where
clicking the link for a page that does not yet exist will create a sibling page
instead of a child page.

Jesse

You are exactly correct. This also explains why the links (even the include
link) worked perfectly but the include itself was empty.

Sorry for the lack of example.

[xwiki-users] Making Changes to the Editor

2016-02-19 Thread Jesse Bright
I am looking to modify the editor in two ways:

1) I would like to change the default editor to the new CKEditor per these
instructions:
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/CKEditor+Integration#HReplacetheDefaultEditor
I get stuck at: "In order to open the CKEditor by default (i.e. replace the
default editor) you can edit the CKEditor.EditMenuEntry page in Objects mode..."

2) I would like to change the “Is Minor Edit” to checked by default and these
are the only instructions I can find:
http://lists.xwiki.org/pipermail/users/2009-August/012857.html I can locate
many files in the /usr/lib/xwiki/templates folder that start with the word
‘edit’ but none of them are ‘editactions.vm’.

I am sorry if these are two totally different questions but they both seem to
be related, as in each case I am unable to find the avenue for changing the
default editor behavior. Thanks for your time.

[xwiki-users] Include Macro Usage

2016-02-16 Thread Jesse Bright
As a test of this extension I have added the following to the end of Sandbox
Test Page 2:

{{include reference="Sandbox.testpage1"/}}

The inclusion is shown on the information panel at the right but no text is
shown in view mode. It appears I am missing something, any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

[xwiki-users] Stable Repo Xwiki Version

2016-02-11 Thread Jesse Bright
I ran a couple of installs the last two nights from the stable repository as
indicated here:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/InstallationViaAPT

Everything goes fine but I notice that the version of Xwiki installed is the
recent 8.0 Milestone 1. This seems to be counter to the
description/instructions. Have I misunderstood something or made an error? How
can I install the latest Xwiki Version 7. Thanks for taking the time.
