2012-03-13 Thread Brian Forsythe
Regarding tag volume, I had this issue from the start (very few tags)
on a clean install of 3.3.

 Otherwise the JS wedges up.

@Sergiu - Not sure where I can find out how many tags I have.   The tag
cloud is pretty big but the TagCloud page doesn't take long to render.

yeah, I've experienced it as well. what it 'feels' like is that it's
still looking for the previous tag and hangs because the input field
has changed. if you baby it and allow it to suggest the previous tag,
it doesn't do that. definitely a bug.

[xwiki-users] Annotations not working

2012-03-05 Thread Brian Forsythe
I'm running XWiki Enterprise 3.3. Annotations simply do not work (via
Ctrl-M). I've tried resaving the Annotations pages (as per
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Annotations+Application)
using an id with programming rights. I've also installed the Admin
Tool and used it to check programming rights
(Admin.CheckProgrammingRights). Viewing page sources, it appears that
annotation styles, code, etc are being included in pages. I've also
turned the feature on in preferences.

Am I missing something I need to install? Is there logging, etc,
somewhere that I can examine? Would it be helpful to (re)install the
Annotations Application
(http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Annotations+Application)?
Or, since Annotations is bundled with Enterprise, is this targeted at
an older xwiki version, so it would be harmful to do so?

[xwiki-users] Groovy macro in a panel?

2012-03-05 Thread Brian Forsythe
Running 3.3 I've tried several times to include a groovy macro in a
panel and it always results in
org.xwiki.rendering.macro.MacroExecutionException: You don't have the
right to execute this script, although my id has programming rights.

So... I simplified, creating a Groovy macro consisting solely of a
simple 'println * This is groovy.'. Same results. The odd thing is
that it works fine when I'm viewing the preferences page
(/xwiki/bin/admin/XWiki/XWikiPreferences), but nowhere else.

Some sort of rights issue, or is this a misleading exception? A known
bug? Any help would be... mmm.. helpful?

[xwiki-users] Fwd: Problem migrating to filesystem attachments in 3.3

2012-02-28 Thread Brian Forsythe
I currently have my attachments stored in the database and am
attempting to migrate to filesystem storage. Toggling it seems to work
fine for new attachments. My issue is with migrating attachments via
the FileSystem Attachment Porter script
(http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Filesystem+Attachment+Porter).

Before running it, I change my config so that I'm back to using
database attachments. I've updated the obsolete class references, and
also whittled it down to just the doIt() method, but when running it,
I receive the exception Unknown entity:
org.xwiki.store.legacy.doc.internal.ListAttachmentArchive

Please advise.

Re: [xwiki-users] Problem migrating to filesystem attachments in 3.3

2012-02-28 Thread Brian Forsythe
Answering my own question - the comment for the doIt() method is
incorrect, saying that it should be run when database attachments are
in use and the changes to config for filesystem attachments should be
made after running it. If one changes to filesystem attachments first,
the script works.

Re: [xwiki-users] database / xwiki objects corruption?

2011-07-20 Thread brian
Ok.

This may not be the first time it happens...
My XWiki instance is open on the internet, and it got indexed by web spider
- which managed to access URLs like GET /xwiki/bin/save/Thing.

So, several things:
- I obviously have a permission problem with some pages
- I should have used the robots.txt specified there
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Performances (even
though it says for performance reasons, and not security reasons)
- But *why on earth* would Xwiki let edit resources with GET requests? Isn't
it against all REST principles?

I find it very disturbing.

[xwiki-users] Problem with xwiki rpc: 503 when requesting w3.org DTD on response parsing

2010-06-18 Thread Brian Ferris
I'm attempting to use the Java XML-RPC interface to xwiki, but I'm running
into problems. Specifically, when the xml-rpc library attempts to parse the
response of the rpc call, it's attempting to request a DTD from w3.org,
which returns a 503 status code. W3C is returning the 503 because they are
tired of poorly configured client libraries continually requesting largely
static DTD documents, as described here:

http://www.w3.org/blog/systeam/2008/02/08/w3c_s_excessive_dtd_traffic

Everyone's answer to this problem seems to be use XML catalogs, but there
is no way that I've found to configure xml catalogs, especially when the
underlying xml parser is wrapped in not one, but two, layers of client
library (xwiki - apache ws xml rpc).

Anyone run into this issue? Anyone have any possible solutions?

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks for your response. The server is definitely shutting down. I am
running linux, so unfortunately, no dtrace. However, I did strace the process
(with '-f' and '-ff' so it follows forks), and it never tried to open the
file. Atime is also definitely enabled on this filesystem. If I cat the file,
I can see the atime is modified.

Is atime turned off on that filesystem?

Something like the following on Solaris or MacOS:

/NULL != strstr(copyinstr(arg0), xwiki.cfg)/

  @[execname, copyinstr(arg0)] = count();

Will tell you if it's ever opened (or if attempts are made at least).

Re: [xwiki-users] Velocity Snipplet for getting the current user group

2008-08-13 Thread Brian Burns
Syam,

When you say currently logged in, I assume you mean the user who is viewing
the particular page as opposed to all users who are currently logged in?

In any case, it doesn't quite make sense because a user can be a member of
multiple groups. You can check if a user is in a particular group using
something along the lines of:
#if($xwiki.getUser().isUserInGroup(XWiki.DemoGroup))

I suppose it might be possible to do some sort of $hql search to generate a
list of all groups and then you could loop through them with an if statement
as shown above and then generate a list of groups of which the user is a
member.

Does that answer your question? Some of the more experienced contributors
might be able to give you more advice.

Re: [xwiki-users] Attach files

2008-08-11 Thread Brian Burns
Vmassol,

Which particular .js file should I look at editing? I assume it one of them
in the tiny_mce folder?

Thank you,
Brian

 Vincent,

Thank you for your suggestion, I have actually tried a different
 method to
get it working. Instead of defining the image in the original
 document as
{image:someimage.PNG} I have given the macro the documents name i.e.
 {image:someimage.PNG|document=Main.SomeDocument}. This means that
 the images
appear when I now view them in the new page by sections.

Yep, that's exactly what I was suggesting :)

Is there any way to make the WYSIWYG Image tool insert all images in
 the
 second format?

Not without making some modifications to the js file...

Thanks

 Hi guys,

I am using some code to view selected sections from one wiki page in
 another

displayed in the new image. I assume this is because it looks for an
attachment on the new page. In order to fix this my stop gap
 solution is to
temporarily attach all other attachments to the page.

 1) I can generate a list of attachments which I loop through
 using
#foreach($attachment in $attachments), could someone please tell me
 how to
attach the $attachment to the current document?

 2) Can anyone suggest a better solution than this? My problem
 is that
this solution would probably work for now but it simply won't be
 scalable
when there are many other documents with many other attachments.

Just use the attach macro and pass to it the name of the document
containing the attachments. Check the documentation for the attach
macro on code.xwiki.org for more details.

 Thanks

Re: [xwiki-users] Stop User Renaming the page

2008-08-07 Thread Brian Burns
Hi,

My original question perhaps wasn't so clear, I do want admins to be able to
rename pages but I don't want normal external users to be able to do it. I
suppose I could edit the skin/menu with an if statement but it strikes me as
bad practice, what do you think?

You can always modify the menu to remove that entry. See

2008-07-30 Thread Brian Burns
Good Morning Community,

I am using the getContentOfSection method to display the content of certain
sections of my wiki as I rudimentary type of search functionality. The line
of code used is $doc.getContentOfSection($item.getSectionNumber()). Is there
any way to display the sections without displaying their titles?

Also, is there any way to display images which are embedded within a
section.

Regards,

Brian

2008-07-28 Thread Brian Burns
Hi community,

I am designing a wiki, which has information about a number of countries.
Each country is a page with various pages defining sections, i.e. overview,
geography, etc. The user must be able to add sections by just putting in an
extra title in a country's page. I want the user to be able to either
navigate by country i.e. just go to a country's wiki page. Or to view all
overviews, all geography, etc. The problem is that the countries do not all
have the same sections.

I have attached a dummy object to all country pages so that I can generate a
list of countries automatically. I have also written some code that given a
section title I can display all the sections from all the countries. Now all
I need is to be able to generate a list of all the section titles. If I
could make some kind of array I could do this easily. I would just loop
through all countries and all sections adding the title to my list if it was
not already in the list. Is this possible?

I did try a very unorthodox approach whereby I would have stored all the
individual titles as titles in a separate wiki document but this didn't
work because the setSectionTitle method didn't seem to do anything.

If anyone can suggest a way to implement my automatically generated list or
even a completely different way to implement this I would very much
appreciate it

Thanks,

Brian

[xwiki-users] Import Data

2008-07-09 Thread Brian Burns
Hi guys,

I'm trying to write some script in Velocity that will automatically add
section headings and a table of contents to a form. I want the user to be
able to upload a list of section headings and the prettyName of the first
field. I will then add an if statement in the standard loop through the
properties so that in pseudo code: if(prop.prettyName ==
firstfieldprettyname) then {Print Heading}. I am wondering if anyone has
any elegant solutions to allowing administrators to upload the section
headings and corresponding first properties. I don't understand how I would
be able to reference the uploaded data from within the velocity script.

I am a new to Xwiki and velocity so please be patient with me if the above
didn't make much sense or wasn't clear enough.

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Brian
