Can you comment on the stability of the current development versions of vpopmail (or probably of .27 if I look on the problems of .26 ;-) and qmailadmin or whether it is a non starter to put them into production? Best regards, Gabriel I am running 4.10.24 with mysql replication on four production machines. The only problem we are seeing is about once every 5 days one of the machines locks up. We have not found out why yet. It might be hardware failure. The symptoms are we see a large (600+) number of qmail-local, vchkpw and vdelivermail programs. None of which can be killed. The machine can not be rebooted since they can not be killed. This might be an NFS problem or a kernel problem (linux 2.4.5, nfs v3). I don't think it is a mysql problem since mysql is still happily replicating. I am going to upgrade to the latest devel version sometime tomorrow. I applications waiting on an NFS service can hang. However the NFS volume is mounted: rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr I think the intr value says the application can be interrupted. Today I switched one of the machines to mount with: rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr,soft,nolock Perhaps the soft mount will allow the apps to be killed. I also turned off locking since it is not needed. Besides this vpopmail appears to be stable. If you do use it in production, monitor the mailing list and new releases and the ChangeLog. I had to put up those disclaimers up on the web site since someone called up inter7.com and was really pissed cause they used a devel release with the cdb module and it had a newline bug in it, and it *fucked* up thier system. Oh I don't plan to use it on NFS, just standalone server with CDB, for now. I'm not feeling overly well with connecting each and every service to MySQL as if that one goes down, the servers essentially won't do anything anymore. If using CDB, they are somewhat independent... someone called up inter7.com and was really pissed cause they used a devel release with the cdb module and it had a newline bug in it, and it *fucked* up thier system. What devel release was this? I don't feel like I want to have my cdbs fucked ;-) Best regards, Gabriel

vpopmail: new 4.10.26 development version available
Hi Folks, A new vpopmail 4.10.26 development version is available at: http://www.inter7.com/devel/ This latest incremental release includes two changes 1) exec'ing of qmail-inject shares the same standard in file descriptor, so vdelivermail no longer reads and writes the message to qmail-inject. Instead qmail-inject just reads in the message from standard in. 2) exec'ing of programs is done as above. This means that programs, like autoresponders, can rewind the message. It also saves on read/write I/O 3) A buffer limitation in processing of a users/Maildir/.qmail file was found and fixed. Note: this is a development release and is not complete for all platforms or configure options. Cheers Ken Jones inter7
