We're using ESXi 4.1 with separate virtual switches for the public and
private networks.  Our hosts come up with the public interface
receiving its IP address via DHCP using vSwitch0.  It sounds like this
is how yours is configured.  The networking configuration panel has
the following:

Virtual Switch: vSwitch0
* Virtual Machine Port Group
** Name: Public
* VMkernel Port
** Name: Management Network
** vmk0: 

To configure the private network virtual switch:
-Add Networking
-Connection Types: VMkernel
-Create a virtual switch - select the private interface (vmnicx)
-Network Label: VMkernel
-Use the following IP settings: enter your private IP address and subnet mask
-Finish
-Click Properties next to Virtual Switch: vSwitch1
-Click Add
-Connection Types: Virtual Machine
-Network Label: Private
-Finish

ESXi doesn't like multiple interfaces receiving their addresses via
DHCP so we have to configure a static IP address for the private
interface.  I would include a screenshot of our networking
configuration in the vSphere Client but I doubt it will go through.
Here is the output of the esxcfg-* commands after SSH'ing in:

Pilot implementation suggestions

Hello everyone,

The powers that be at the institution I work for have decided to allot us the 
funds necessary to set up a pilot implementation of a VCL. This pilot would be 
for approximately 20 testers to use simultaneously. So, I'm wondering, from 
those of you with experience, what would you recommend to purchase for hardware 
for a pilot implementation? Are there any questions I should be 
asking/researching?

I might be a little over my head here as I'm a senior desktop support analyst 
and while I have minimal experience administering servers I haven't dove that 
deeply into that area yet. So any help would be appreciated.

I also have a Dell Precision 390 with 2GB RAM available to me. Would it make 
sense to upgrade that to 4GB of RAM and start playing around with a standalone 
VCL (as I've heard others talk about here)?
