Hello list, this topic seems very interesting. I think it's overdue in times a lot of software is client/server oriented to conform the vdr. Are there any plans how to start with this project? Re: [vdr] Theses Client/Server VDR
Dear Tobias, this was just my vision of a Client/Server capable VDR concept. I felt urged to sketch this user friendly concept, after a similar (horrible) discussion here on mailing list, where developer did discuss complex solutions just for developers. I don't have the ability to provide a fork and honestly don't want to have one. It would rather be cool if some of the ideas become part within the one and only VDR. But I don't know if Klaus does have a sneek view into this vision at all, it's up to him. This wasn't a claim, just a sketched design study how an upcoming Client/Server capable VDR could look like on the surface. The details under the hood are far away from being specified. So, don't wait for it, even if it comes (partly) it will be a version 2.2 or further, please let Klaus finish 2.0 with all the good new features and HD capability, finally. Thanks to all, it seems the ideas did found some fellower. I used hdvb to record samples of BBC 1 HD, ITV1 HD and Channel 4 HD. MPlayer can play all of them. It tells me BBC is 1440x1088, the others are 1920x1088. All appear to be interlaced. BBC appears fine on my HTPC/TV, with sxfe configured for vdpau with bob deinterlacing. On a remote PC running sxfe (onboard Intel graphics, so no vdpau) I could see interlacing artifacts, probably because I configured deinterlacing off in VDR's OSD (see below). ITV plays too slowly in sxfe on the HTPC. The graphics card is only an 8200 so I tried reconfiguring .xine/config_xineliboutput to use xv and turned off deinterlacing (see above). It didn't seem to make any difference, but the CPU is a 2.4GHz Athlon x2, so it should be fast enough. It was with MPlayer, and so was the other PC (a somewhat faster Core i5 2500k) with vdr-sxfe. Channel 4 won't play at all in sxfe on either PC, but does in MPlayer. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

I do have to restart VDR every few days anyway, because it has a memory leak. Disabling eepg didn't fix that IIRC, and the leak hides from valgrind. I use 'apt-get source' to fetch the eepg plugin from the yavdr PPA: deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/yavdr/unstable-vdr/ubuntu oneiric main The binary package is incompatible with Debian unstable, but that source always compiles OK for me when a vdr upgrade makes it necessary.
